STUDENT RESUME

Primary Activities:
Orchestra
I have been playing the violin for nearly a decade. In 11
th
grade, I was selected as concertmaster
of the string orchestra. Since then, I have been chosen to perform three solos during the spring
and winter concerts. My responsibilities include helping setting up the stage before each
rehearsal and proficiently knowing the pieces before the rest of the orchestra so that I may lead
them. During the spring semester of my senior year, I
Science Fair Olympiad
During grades 10-12, I competed in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) at both
the regional competition and the state level competition. The Shipley School did not have a
science fair team prior to my enrolment. I believed that science competitions were an important
experience and in turn decided to found a group so that I, along with other students, could
compete. As president and founder of the team, I am in charge of submitting the paper work for
each of the team members, teaching them how to set up a scientific apparatus for their
experiments, guiding them through the rules of PJAS, and aiding them in improving the quality
of their presentations.
Beacon (School Newspaper)
I have been a member of my schools newspaper, Beacon, since the 10
th
grade. During the fall of
my senior year I was selected to be one of the head editors. As editor, I have to initiate the
weekly pitch meetings, edit submitted articles, and organize the layout of each issue. The Beacon
releases one issue per month, each relating to current local and global events. As an editor, it is
my goal to help the underclassmen writers to write high quality articles and articles that will
arouse curiosity and interest in the reader. The aspiration of any newspaper is to induce
excitement in its audience. My responsibility as the leader of the group is to create a strong group
of writers who will create this effect.
Great Wall Chinese School (GWCS) volunteer

Each year I attend the GWCS Chinese New Year Gala where I accept tickets at the front desk. I
attended GWCS from kindergarten to 10
th
grade, spending each Sunday afternoon studying the
Chinese language. Over the course of ten years, I have developed my oral skills to the point of
fluency. In addition, my reading and writing skills have also greatly improved. Volunteering at
the Chinese New Year gala is something I enjoy immensely because it provides an opportunity
for me to give back to the GWCS community. I definitely want to continue learning Chinese in
college as an extracurricular. I may even consider taking a summer course to further refine my
skills. I will definitely return to GWCS to volunteer for many years to come.

Liberty Thrift Shop volunteer

Last summer I volunteered here for four weeks (July 14, 2013August 15, 2013) every Friday
and Saturday from 12- 4 pm. I have visited Little Liberty Thrift several times throughout my
middle school and high school years and I appreciate the amiable staff members. I enjoy
volunteering here very much because it gives me a chance to interact with the customers and to
give back to the community.

th
grade and once in 11
