monthly to discuss ways to improve our business district and build our businesses.

The next phase
With mornings covered
Let the evenings begin…
It has always been part of the
“master plan” to incorporate wine,
beer and desserts, but the OLCC
approval process was much longer
than I had anticipated (4 months, to
be exact). We did it, though,
getting our approval and license on
a Tuesday, and picking up our wine
and beer lasat 3rd Thursday
morning. My mother was in her
element baking desserts for the
evening art walk, with mini crème
brulees, mini mousse cups, cookies
and French apple tarts.
With these new additions, I thought
I would share a bit about each of
the choices we made, and where we
hope to see this next phase take us.
WINE:
Staff member Veronica had a
contact at Triage Wines, so we
went for a tasting and were sold.
Here is what we found…
Jigsaw Pinot Noir: The Jigsaw style
can be described as cerebral punk.
You want to find aggressive aromas
of red fruits, flowers and spice. The
flavors should be intense and rich
with a juicy mouth feel and supple
texture. But balance is key. There
must be harmony of ripe fruit,
refreshing acidity and supportive
tannins. Jigsaw strives for
complexity, layers of flavor and a
long finish every vintage.
Syncline Subduction Red: Ripe and
hedonistic, this wine displays vivid
ruby color with varying degrees of
purple black. Aromatics lean
towards cherries, pomegranate and
black- berry with layers of exotic
spices. Nuances of licorice, pepper,
and provincial herbs mingle with
the fruit. Flavors closely mimic
aromatics with a broad expansive
texture.
Martinolles Chardonnay: We tasted
and loved its citrusy, tropical fruit
and peach flavors and zingy, yet
fleshy mouth feel. The wine is not
aged in oak, which will make food
pairing more versatile, or this
Chardonnay can be used as a
refreshing aperitif.
Muri-Gries Pinot Grigio: If you think
Pinot Grigio has to be a simple,
neutral white with very little to no
backbone, think again! With such
minerality, verve, acidity and

length, as well as apple and pear
notes this Pinot Grigio is a
wonderful white with or without
food. And did I mention it was
made my monks? Really.
BEER:
I’ll admit it – I don’t know that
much about beer. Luckily, my
husband does. So he and Libby
perused our catalog and selected all
of our beers, which are as follows:
Full Sail Session: An all-malt lager
that is reminiscent of what
American lagers used to taste like.
Pilsner Urquell: A heavier body but
slightly less alcohol than typical
American-style lagers (with an
almost ale-like fruitiness in the malt
body) and more strongly hopped
than most pilsner beers. Saaz hops,
a noble hop variety, are a key
element in its flavor profile, as are
the use of soft water and fire
brewing.
Deschutes Black Butte Porter: Crafted
from chocolate and crystal malts, is
Deschutes Brewery’s flagship
brand. With a rich and distinctive
flavor, this porter has enjoyed a

A new business joins
Kenton!
Many of you I’m sure have
stopped by Kenton’s newest
children and women’s clothing
store, Queens Mab, just around
the corner from Posies. But if
you haven’t, it is the place to
check out as the holidays
quickly approach.
Moving from their previous
location on N. Killingsworth,
Ella decided to move her shop
closer to home. Inside you will
find new and lightly used
apparel, accessories and kid
equipment.

Walk in Kenton
Kenton’s business district has a
new energy, and we wanted to
add an event that would bring
neighbors out to enjoy
something together. So a few of
us got together and started 3rd
Thursday in Kenton. Every
month, from 5pm – 9pm you
can visit most of the shops in
the neighborhood (look for
balloons on their a-frame sign),
check out their newest artist and
hear some great live music!

MUSIC:
Thanks to our many friends in the
music field, we’ve had help in
developing an evening music scene
that we think is going to be
absolutely fantastic. For those of
you who came to see Mnemonic
perform last Saturday, you can
maybe see where we’re going with
this… So here is our newest
addition and tentative plan…

Ben) has been in cahoots with his
neighbor Scott McPherson (currently
drumming for Beck, M. Ward and Zoe
Deschanel) to do something more than
your typical open mic night. They want
to invite 2-3 musicians to Posies Café to
perform. But this isn’t your hit or miss
open mic night – these are invited guests
of a well-known musician. So you’ll be
sure to enjoy a cringe-free time any
Tuesday night you want to drop in for
some wine and really solid music.
Weekend Music: I was advised to not
have live music on weekends because I
would be competing with larger venues
downtown, which is why I had avoided
it thus far. But after the Mnemonic
show, and after my friend, Karen, wrote
to me, I realized that although I may be
competing with downtown venues, there
is almost no venue that people can go to
and hear great music with their kids in
tow. I’m still working the kinks out, but
I am very confident that we will soon be
booking weekend performances.

but feel you can’t as often now that you
have little ones?
