To compete in this sector, businesses need to collaborate and innovate to succeed. This workshop will inform businesses about trends in UK and overseas rail markets, and outline support programmes to assist with collaboration, innovation and exporting. Business Durham and UK Trade & Investment are hosting this event in the North East. It is an opportunity to nd out which geographical areas will be investing in rail, how to get involved, and support for overseas missions. The Rail Alliance will be outlining programmes to mentor companies, and support innovation through the Rail Test Voucher Scheme to businesses serving the rail sector. Hitachi Rail Europe will talk about their perspective of this growing and increasingly important sector. UK and Global Rail Overview The UK rail industry is valued at 12 billion per annum. The rail industry is a signicant driver of economic growth. In Europe and across the world, the liberalisation of railway systems provides export opportunities for UK companies in the sector.
