Assessment
Using the appropriate symbols, design an
electric circuit which includes a battery, a bulb, a
bell, a motor and a switch, and which works as
follows.
The bulb should always be on.
The motor or the bell will be activated
depending on the position of the switch.
Calculate the quantities to complete the table
below.
Use symbols to represent the circuits below.
Look at your circuit A in question 3. Draw the
circuit again and include a voltmeter to measure
the voltage in the light bulb on the right and an
ammeter to measure the current from the switch
output.
List at least four safety rules that you should
follow when handling circuits and electrical
devices.
True or false? If the sentence is false, correct it.
a) Electrons have positive charge.
b) An alternator transforms motion into electric
current.
c) Incandescent and halogen bulbs use gas to
produce light.
d) Resistance is measured in ohms ().
e) Using batteries is a more efficient way to
consume electricity than plugging a device
into the main electricity supply.
f) The electric circuit for a doorbell contains a
changeover switch.
g) Ohms law is expressed mathematically as
VI R.

in good condition.
Switch off the current before carrying out any work on
electrical equipment or apparatus.
Never use electrical apparatus and equipment with
wet hands.
Do not overload a socket with too many connected
devices.
a) False. Electrons have negative charge.
