I WXSH YOU COULU HAVE BEEKI THEFiE ! !
Dear Friends and Supporters, March 3, 1992
Ke \'e had a lot of thrills and victories in our mission work
over the last 19 years but we recently were blessed with a "once in
^ lifetime experience!" At our annual Youth Conference, sponsored
b> Christ in iouth from Joplin, MO, we saw the Lord work in a
powerful way! V.e i^'ere gathered with, our young' people from all over
the island for four days and with great preaching and teaching, our
young people x-rere challenged as never before.
After Dave Stone's last message on Sunday morning, we offered
an invitation for Lifetime Christian Service, an invitation for the
young people to dedicate their lives to some area of Christian
service. Even before I was able to finish the invitation, young men
and women were walking down the aisle. It was one of the most
thrilling moments in our mission work. I had to have help getting
the total number, so many came forward! We finally counted 55 1ives
dedicated to the work of Christ's church!! It was an overwhelming
response to a great need in the Dominican Republic and Latin
America. Time will tell the impact of this conference.
The University Christian Church(La Iglesia Cristiana
Universitaria ) in the capital brought the most young people to the
conference, 49 in all! The church has grown and matured to be one
of the strongest on the island in our fellowship. They have been
able to grow despite not having a church building of their own.
They are meeting in the conference hall of the National Museum of
History each Sunday morning! One of our most important goals this
year is buying property and beginning construction of a building
for this church. Adequate property for the future growth will cost
at least $15,000, money that we .)ust do not have.
We're making a special appeal to every person that has been
down to visit and help with the work to try and raise $200 towards
the purchase of property for the church in Santo Domingo. Most of
you have met Dr. Pena and Pedro Abreu and their families. You know
the quality of leaders that they are and the good work that they
are doing. Your help will be such a blessing for them and the
church. The church has already started saving for the property and
they'll do as much as they possibly can. Please help in whatever
way you can. God bless you and we hope to see you again!

News From The
Dominican Republic
April 7, 1992
Greetings once again from the Dominican Republic.
When I started organizing my thoughts for this newsletter
I checked my calendar for what all we have been doing
these past three months and I quickly realized that I
was going to have to leave some things out! We have been
extra busy and so very blessed by the work here!
We started out the new year with a work team from the Chicago area, led by
Brook Brotzman of the Lakeland Christian Church. They came to help work on two
church construction projects and work they did! They mixed concrete, dug founda
tions and got sunburned in our hot winter sun! Brook has been here twice this
past year and is comin'g again in June, Lord willing.
Also in January we were able to inaugurate the new church building in Nagua.
The building was started several years ago and Christ In Youth from Joplin, MO
had helped do part of the construction. The church has grown the last few months
and the youth group won an attendance placque at the Annual Youth Conference.
CIY sponsored our youth conference with the theme this year of "Honest To
God" (Sinceros Con Dios) and it was an amazing time of fellowship and leading by
God's hand. We had 13 baptisms ^d>55 young people dedicated their lives to some
type of Christian service! It wa^% thrilling moment to see the kids coming down
the aisle at the last chapel service. They are all super excited about next year's
conference, to be held in Feb. of 1993.
Six of our young leaders just go back from a year-long evangelistic intern
ship program in Panama. The leaders there were thrilled with their development
and work in the churches in the northern section of Panama. The kids spent almost
every day studying, teaching Bible Studies and leading people to the Lord. I just
met yesterday with the preachers of the Santiago area to plan a strategy for using
these young people to impact the Santiago churches and we're sure that the Lord
will use them in a powerful way.
We continue with our Leadership Training Conferences and last month had the
highest attendance yet, over 100 for our Friday night session. We're going to
have to buy more mattresses for the men to sleep on, as seme of them went with
out one last month because of the high attendance! The men are reporting great
growth in many of the churches. The church in Esperanza has had 17 baptisms this
last month. The church in Sabaneta had over 150 in attendance last Sunday evening
and they are meeting in a house and have pews in the front yard and street because
they don't have enough room! The church in Esperanza needs both a lot and a build
ing, The Sabaneta church has a lot. They need a construction team to come help
build a building. How about your church coming to help?
We've been blessed greatly by several groups that have come from the U.S.
We will have 8 teams coming between now and July and almost all will be helping
with some area of construction. It's such a boost for the brethern here to see
how the Americans come and share and work for the church here. The visitors we
have, however, always tell us that they receive much more than they give from
the Dominican Christians. Please be praying for these groups and for the work
they do and safety in their travels. Pray for energy for us, too!

FAMILY CAMP IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC A HUGE SUCCESS!!
The Christian Churches of the Dominican Republic celebrated
their most successful Family Camp since the yearly gathering
started in 1978. Over 540 people registered for the weekend program
and over 600 were in attendance for the evening session on
Saturday, August 29! Jerry Simkins, minister at the Jefferson
Church of Christ, Rural hall, NC, was the guest speaker for the
conference, based on the theme, "The Victorious Church". A Bible
Bowl tournament, basketball championship, along with a talent show
were part of the activities that the brethren enjoyed.
The church in the Dominican Republic rejoiced at the donation
of property in the southern town of Ban! that will be used to
construct a camp facility for the churches. U.S. church work teams
for 1993-94 are being organized now to help in the construction.
