Play Fish Market in groups. Which aspects
of the game relate to the concept of
supply and demand? This BrainPOP video
might be helpful.
Identify the connection between supply
and demand and the commercial
seafood industry.
List the ve sectors of the industry; the
deepwater group, inshore, aquaculture,
paua and rock lobster.
Use the Treaty 2 U resource to
explain the iwi role in owning and
managing sheries.
Compile a Pinterest board with images
that represent students knowledge
about Commercial Fishing in
New Zealand.
Divide the class Pinterest brainstorm
on the commercial shing industry into
categories (eg. vessels, shing methods,
processing, iwi sheries etc.)
Research the industry. Explore Seafood
New Zealand, Te Ohu Kaimoana and
websites of commercial
shing companies.
Add any categories that are missing.
Collaborate on Google Doc to produce
a class Bubble Map for each category.
Show what you know about the industry
from your investigation so far.
Use diferent colours to indicate if the
contribution on the Bubble Map is from
a students general knowledge or from
research and is; a fact, an opinion or
needs to be validated.
Prepare interview questions for a
commercial sher. Use the Bubble Maps.

Schedule a Skype interview with a
commercial shing boat. For help with
