"Health is Wealth" - A Short Moral Story

Once upon a time, there was a king, who was very lazy. He did not like to do anything. He waited for
his attendants to serve him every moment. He used to lie on his bed always. A time came when he
really became inactive.
Only eating good food and sleeping made him fatty. So fat he became that he could not move around
by himself. He felt sick, doctors were called in to treat him. Nothing could help him to become fit and
fine. The king was a kind hearted and cordial person. All his subjects were sorry to learn about the
fact that their king was not well.
One day the minister met a holy man (Sadhu) on the outskirts of the city. While conversing with each
other, the Sadhu came to know the fact that the king was unwell. He told the minister that he could
cure the king. Hearing this the ministers face brightened. He arranged immediately for a meeting of
the Sadhu and the king.
The Sadhu saw the depressed king for a while and then spoke nothing serious had happened and
that the king would be alright. From the next day the treatment would start. He asked the king to
come to his hut which was at a distance from the palace.
The king had to come on foot to the hut. The king agreed, after so many years the king came outside
to walk on the road. His ministers and attendants accompanied him. By the time he reached the
Sadhus hut, he was breathless, sweating and uncomfortable.
The Sadhu came out of the hut noticing everything. He offered cool water to the king. The king felt
better. The Sadhu brought out an iron ball, the size of a football and gave it to the attendants asking
his majesty that daily morning and evening he had to roll that ball in the palace grounds.
The king Okayed to the Sadhu and left. After fifteen days when the Sadhu came to the palace to
meet the king, he had lost a considerable amount of weight, was feeling much better and was active.
All his sickness had disappeared. In spite a lot of wealth, the king was not happy as he was unhealthy.
So the moral is Health is Wealth.
A Glass of Milk
One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found
he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next
house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.
Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large
glass of milk.
He drank it slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?
You dont owe me anything, she replied. Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.
He said, Then I thank you from my heart.
As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man
was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.
Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent
her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.
Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came
from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to
her room.
Dressed in his doctors gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the
consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention
to the case.
After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill
to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her
room.
She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she
looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She began to read the following
words:
Paid in full with one glass of milk.
Short moral story of True Friendship
Once upon a time, a lonely hawk lived on a tree by a riverside. He was young and handsome. Yet, he
had no friends. One day, he saw a beautiful she-hawk sitting on a tree. He wanted to marry her. But,
the she-hawk refused to marry him, as he had no friends. Will you marry me if I make three
friends? he asked her. She said that she would definitely marry him if he made three friends.

The hawk then went looking for friends. While flying, he saw a tortoise. He lived on the other bank of
the river. The hawk flew down to him and said, Dear tortoise, will you be my friend and help me in
my hour of need. The tortoise agreed to become his friend and said, Call me whenever you need me
and I shall come to your side.

The hawk also promised him his help at any time and then flew in search of the second friend. Soon,
he came upon an osprey. The hawk went to it and asked her if she would be his friend and help him
in time of his need. The osprey very gladly accepted his friendship and offered her help whenever he
needed it. The hawk was glad that he had made two friends.

Now, he went in search of a third friend. He flew over the jungle and saw a tiger. Fearless as he was,
he went near the tiger and requested him to be his friend. The tiger readily accepted his friendship.
The tiger said, From now onwards, I am your friend. Nobody will harm you. If anyone tries to harm
you, call me and I will be there to help you.

The hawk was very happy. He thanked the tiger and flew back to the she-hawk., I have made three
friends- a tortoise, an osprey and a tiger. Will you marry me now? the she hawk agreed to marry
him. Soon, their marriage took place. The three friends attended the hawks marriage.
After some-months, she-hawk gave birth to two baby hawks. The parent hawks were very happy to
have cute little babies. They lived happily in their nest.
One day, two hunters came and sat under that tree. They were tired and hungry. They had not been
able to hunt any animal. They decided to catch some fish. But, they couldnt catch even a single fish.
It was getting dark and the hunters decided to spend the night under that tree. To keep themselves
warm, they lit a fire. The fire soared high. The hawk- babies on the tree could not bear the heat and
smoke coming out of the fire. They started crying. The Hunters heard their cries. One of them said,
There are birds on this tree. Let us catch them. We shall roast them on the fire and eat them. The
other one agreed.
The hawks heard them and were really worried about the safety of their babies. The she-hawk
suggested that they seek help from their friends. The hawk went the Osprey and told her his problem.
The Osprey said, Go home and protect your babies. In the meantime, I shall tackle with the
hunters. The osprey divided into the river and then flew over the fire. The water from her wet
feathers fell on the fire. She repeatedly dived into the river and flew over the fire. The water from her
feathers put off the fire.
The hunters decided to light the fire again before getting the hawk babies. They started collecting the
leaves and the twigs. However, as soon as they lit the fire again, the osprey put it off by diving into
the river and letting the water from her feathers fall into the fire.
In the meantime, the hawk went to get help from the tortoise. When the tortoise heard about the
hawks problem, he said to him, Do not worry dear friend, I will be there in no time and tackle the
hunters in my own way. In the meantime, go and protect your family.
The hawk flew to the tree and the tortoise reached the tree. He went quite close to where the hunters
were sitting and trying to light the fire again. The hunters saw the tortoise and one of them said,
Look there is a huge tortoise. Lets forget about the hawks and catch this tortoise.
The other hunter agreed and said, Lets tear our shirts and make a rope. We shall tie its one end to
the tortoise and other to our waists. Then we will pull the tortoise with all our strength. The other
hunter liked the idea. Soon, they make a rope out of their shirts. They tied one end of the rope to the
tortoises legs. Then, trying the other end to their waist, they could not pull the tortoise. The
tortoises strength was much greater than the two hunters were together. It was tortoise who pulled
the two men into the water.
Once, inside the water, it was very easy for the tortoise to drag them. Thus, the two hunters fell into
the river. With great efforts, they cut the rope that was tied to their waist and swam back to the bank.
They were now feeling very cold. They had lost their shirts. They thought of making a fire again.
Seeing those collecting leaves and twigs, the hawk was worried again. Now he flew to the forest and
called his third friend, the tiger. He found the tiger at the edge of the forest. When the tiger heard the
hawks problem, he immediately walked towards the riverbank.
The hunter had now lighted the fire and one of them was preparing to climb the tree to get the hawk
babies. Just then, the tiger reached the tree. Seeing the tiger, the hunters ran from there and never
came back again.
The hawk thanked all his three friends for their kind and timely help. He also realized that it is very
important to have at least a few friends. The female-hawk had been very wise in advising the hawk to
make friends before marrying him.

There was a King who had 1 Eye and 1 leg.
He asked all the painters to draw a beautiful portrait of him. But none of them could -- how could they
paint him beautifully with the defects in one eye and one leg.
Eventually one of them agreed and drew a classic picture of the King.
It was a fantastic picture and surprised everyone..
He painted the King AIMING for a HUNT. Targeting with ONE Eye Closed and One Leg Bent ...
MORAL : Why cant we all paint pictures like this for others. Hiding their weaknesses and highlighting
their strength

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express
purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of
what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, How was the trip?
It was great, Dad.
Did you see how poor people live? the father asked.
Oh yeah, said the son.
So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip? asked the father.
The son answered: I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the
middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden
and they have the stars at night.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.
The boys father was speechless.
Then his son added, Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.
Moral: Love, Unity, Care, Satisfaction is richer than any comfort money gives.
Happy Prince
Here we have a statue who, at one time, was a real prince. He was happy when alive, because he was
kept ignorant of any sadness or suffering outside his palace walls. His life was one of joy and fulfilled
desires. And then he died. Upon his death, a statue was made depicting him which was covered in gold,
had beautiful sapphires for eyes, and a ruby attached to his sword-gilt. Because of the value society
places on gold and jewels, he was thought to be quite beautiful. "Useless," remarks a Town Councilman,
"but beautiful." He is adored by all who see him. Unfortunately for the statue, his placement atop a
high hill allows him to witness, for the first time, the pain and misery experienced by the poor of the
city, of whom he had remained ignorant.
The statue, once happy, now weeps with sadness to learn the plight of so many who have so little. A
self-serving swallow arrives to take shelter beneath this statue and eventually becomes touched by the
statue's kindness and desire to help others. He becomes the statue's messenger and agrees to remove
the jewels and the gold from the Happy Prince in order to bring contentment, badly needed
financial security, and compassion to the masses. In an allegory, the characters stand for ideas or for
people in history. In this story, the swallow can be seen as Socialism -delivering necessities to all so that
all are on equal footing.
As the statue's gold and jewels are taken and redistributed among the poor, he is no longer able to see
the impoverished around him. He knows it is there, and he is not blind to the sufferings of others as
he once was. Even without eyes to see, he knows that it exists.
Eventually, the little swallow lies at the feet of the statue and dies from exposure and exhaustion. He
never made it to Egypt because he exchanged his dream of warm climates and comfort with a bigger
dream -to bring help to those who are in need. The sculpture cracks with sadness at the loss of his
friend, and his heart is exposed. The most beautiful part of the statue -the kind and giving heart-
could not be seen on the outside.
Upon seeing the statue in such disrepair, the powerful people of the city -the Town Councilors and
Mayor -decide that he is no longer useful, because he is no longer beautiful. Much like the poor, who
were exploited and tossed away by the rich, the statue is taken down. Arguments are begun to
determine whose likeness will replace the superficial shell that they called The Happy Prince.
