PE LESSON PLAN - SKIPPING

(Year 1 and 2)
Objectives Practice different skipping techniques
Learn how to select appropriate skipping rope.

Resources One skipping rope per student.
Cones for boundary

Prior
Knowledge
Students may or may not know how to skip with a skipping rope properly.


Warm Up

Follow the leader, rabbit hop, side skip, jump clap, crouch, jog.


Select a skipping rope and show students how to choose a
correctly fitting one.
Demonstrate the appropriate starting position. Show students
the different types of skills that will be practiced. Any questions?

Students select skipping ropes.
Have students line up along the boundary with their ropes.
Practice first skill.
Practice second skill.
Practice third skill.

DRINK BREAK

Call out the names of the different jumps and have students do
the jumps for twenty seconds.
Show students how they can combine the different jumps.
Provide them time to practice two that I make up.
Allow students to work with a partner to create some of their
own.

Have three or four pairs demonstrate the sequence they came up
with.

Show students the cones and what they are to do. zig zag the
ball up and back again.
Separate the students into four groups and have them line up.
Demonstrate again.
Students practice.


Passing the ball
Demonstrate how to pass and stop the ball with a student.
Line students up into two parallel lines. Give each pair a ball and
have students practice their passing.
After a few minutes have the students step further apart.

Soccer Traffic Green light / Red light
Demonstrate to students how they are to dribble the ball and
stop the ball.
Explain the game and instructions.
Play game.

Relay
Have students form eight groups.
Place four groups on opposite sides of the boundary.
Have students sit down while instructions are explained. Explain
rules.

Have students line up along the boundary with their ropes.

Practice first skill.
Practice second skill.
Practice third skill.

out to each group.
Ask for one group to demonstrate up the front how to skip using
a long skipping rope.
Inform students that we are going to see who can complete the
most jumps in one go.
Have students go to their own area and practice.

Double jump challenge.
Have two people with the long skipping rope. Have students
jump in and out taking turns.
Introduce second skipping rope.
