SUNG AN MACHINERY CO., LTD.
Newsletter: SAM Open House February 18 - 22, 2011 in Korea
There will be much to see in February at the SAM
Open House on February 18 - 22. We are inviting
our friends and customers to visit and share in some
exciting new developments. 2010 was a busy year
and we anticipate business levels to continue to grow
in the recovering economy of 2011.
On our factory floor in Korea we will have three extrusion
coating lines. Our latest design, ELX1400S-CO, is a 450
mpm high speed co-extrusion laminator. The machine
line consists of a two direction primary unwind splicer,
in-feed tension control pull roll, primer coating station
with 6 meter roll support dryer, extrusion laminator with
a two roll nip assembly & Teflon belts, secondary
two direction (sandwich) unwind with access platform,
thickness gauge, edge trim station and a turret rewind &
roll changer. Two of these lines
are shipping to a customer in India.
We will demonstrate full speed
operation with unwind splicing and
winder roll turn over on common
flexible packaging web materials.

Extruder Demonstration @ Open House
The co-extrusion station includes
90 mm diameter 32:1 L/D and
65 mm diameter 32:1 L/D high
output extruders. Each is fitted
with a right angle valved adapter
and interconnected to the Cloeren
3-layer VG feed block and EBR-
IV autogauge internal deckled
die. One co-extrusion station
will be running a co-extrusion of
LDPE and Surlyn. Melt quality
will be readily monitored with the
Raytek EC150 Infrared Thermal
Process Imaging system.
A third extrusion laminating line
for export will be on display.
This mono extrusion line is fitted
with a 90 mm diameter 32:1 L/
D extruder with an Xaloy EH35
hydraulic slide plate screen
changer, right angle valve adapter
and a Cloeren EBR-IV internal
deckled die.
Two solution coating lines will also be near completion. The
CO1700-3H micro-gravure slot die coater is equipped with an
S knife. The second line is a CO1700-1H gravure coater.
Another new development to see is a 65 mm diameter 32:1
L/D extruder fitted with a highly efficient direct torque drive.
As energy costs escalate the added efficiency of the direct torque
drive is further enhanced with an infrared (IR) barrel heating
system. This system reduces the heating requirement by fully
insulating the barrel with a ceramic insulation. The IR heaters
are integral to the insulation
jacket which provides an
air circulating channel
against the extruder barrel
for efficient cooling when
required. A proprietary
design Optex barrier
screw provides low shear
processing for specialty
materials like EVOH,
EVA, or bio-resins. We will
demonstrate this extruder
running NatureWorks Poly-
Lactic Acid (PLA) 4032D.

2010 was a slow recovery year for most economies. China, Brazil and India have weathered the
general trend of other regions with strong sustained business throughout the global slow down.
We saw our business exhibit a strong and steady recovery through the year. We entered two new
exciting markets this year with shipments to South America and Australia including two extrusion
laminating systems (ELX 1400-CO-P) and our Hi-Flex in-line flexo printing press, and are currently
building a solution coating and drying line for Brazil.
Our traditional markets of South East Asia, Middle East, and Korea, along with our new North
America market, have provided steady business in all product areas; Gravure Printing, Extrusion
Laminating, and Solution Coating.
System shipments in 2010 included:
(2) Gravure Printing Presses
(6) Extrusion Coating and Laminating
Lines (mono and co-extrusion)
New Machines Include Hi-Flex 650
technology, customer tests or demonstrations for their product applications.
A new service has been introduced this year as well with our North American division (SAM
North America LLC). We are offering comprehensive in-depth training programs tailored to the
equipment and requirements of our customers. These programs will be conducted on-site near
commissioning time for the new equipment with class room training covering the fundamental
principals of extrusion, coating, and web processing. Machine operation and maintenance
discussions are followed by hands on training on your machine.
This year has started out very strong with bookings in all of our key product and market regions.

New Joint Ventures with SAM
In March 2010 SAM North America LLC was
established in Fulton NY, USA between SAM
and Mr. Andy Christie, Managing Director of
Optex Engineering LLC, who is well known in
the extrusion industry.
This business will supply far superior Extrusion
Coating Systems, allow us to meet the American
and European customers requirements of
higher service standards of project management
and new extrusion processing technology such
as the many new Bio-Plastics developed for
environmentally friendly packaging material as a

The office will guarantee quicker customer
service with local support complete with
engineering, project management, and
purchasing. Future plans for expansion will
allow SAM North America to stock critical
spare parts for our customers. The presence of
this new service organization also led to entry
into the South American market with orders for
extrusion laminating and solution coating and
drying machines.
In July 2010, SAM established a joint-venture
company with Ralph Pagendarm, who is well
known to the solution coating industry. SAM

OPV solar cell, OLED, lighting and others.
The facility is already nearing 100% utilization.
The global economic
downturn of 2009 proved to
be the perfect time for SAM
to spur internal investments
which position our company
for future growth. In
anticipation of the recovery,
SAM hired additional
engineers and service
technicians, established SAM
