Hello Chapel!
It is GREAT to be back at Chapel! Thank you SO much for releasing us
for the winter months especially this last winter!! A big THANK YOU
to our pastors who served admirably
Pastor Paul
Pastor Jennifer
Pastor Jay
Chapel, we are so blessed!
Let me just say a word about the summer preaching series for June and
July:
Weird
Normal isnt working
Normal people are stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. Many of their
relationships are, at best, strained and, in most cases, just surviving. Even
though we live in one of the most prosperous places on earth, normal is
still living paycheck to paycheck and never getting ahead. In our
oversexed world, lust, premarital sex, guilt, and shame are far more
common than purity, virginity, and a healthy married sex life. And, when
it comes to God, the majority believe in Him, but the teachings of
Scripture rarely make it into their everyday lives. Simply put, normal
isnt working.
SERMON TITLES INCLUDE:
The God Kind of Weird
Its Time to Be Weird
Weird That Money Cant Buy
Pleasing God is Weird
Weird Makes You Truly Sexy
The Weirdest Blessing Possible
Lets journey with author and Pastor Craig Groeschel as he shares a
Christ-centered philosophy, on everything from money to scheduling to
purity, that will help you break out of the normal rut and live according to
the rhythms of Gods grace and the truth of His Word.
Pastor Dean Kelly

Congratulations to Cindy Ormston who
received the UMWs Special Mission
Recognition pin on May 18.
On Mothers Day, each Chapel woman
was presented a rose by the witness
committee. Thank you!
Thanks to Dan Steen for building four
microphone stands on each side of the
altar steps. It is much easier to keep the
cords untangled plus it preserves the life
of the microphones.
Thank you to the Cub Scouts for
donating paper goods to Chapel in
appreciation for the use of our building
for their meetings.

I am very excited to inform you of our Prayer Ministry Leaders
Ron and Lois Groth. Ron and Lois bring gifts of leadership,
spiritual maturity, condence of the congregation, and a lifetime of
practiced prayer to the Prayer Ministry endeavor at Chapel
Church.
Please congratulate and pray for them as they lead us forward.
I urge, then, rst of all, that requests, prayers, intercession
and thanksgiving be made for everyone for kings and all
those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives
in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God
our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a
knowledge of the truth.
I Timothy 2:1-4
Chapels Prayer Ministry launches September, 2014. Look for
details as the summer unfolds.
Pastor Dean J. Kelly
A Response from the Groths
Hi to all,
I think I must do a little confessing at the time of this
announcement. When Pastor Kelly rst mentioned this to me, my
rst reaction was, Who me?" There are so many people more
qualied for this position than me. I told him that we would have
to think and pray about it. Lois said "no," and I thought that was
it.

While we were in Florida in January, we attended our nephew,
Gary Zink's church, and one of the sermons was about God
calling Moses to lead the Jews out of Egypt. In short, the idea was
this: God doesn't call the qualied, He qualies the called.

I felt the Holy Spirit was talking to me, and I couldn't say no any
longer. I therefore confess that I am not qualied for this position,
but I pray that with your help and prayers, Lois and I will be able,
with God's help, to serve God in this position.

In God's Love,
Ron and Lois

Thank you, Chapel, for your prayers and support when my
father, Mort Kellogg, passed away. I love you and my Chapel
Family. I drew a lot of strength by keeping all of you in my
thoughts this past week: "What would my Chapel family do?"
I am very, very blessed to be a part of all of you.
Thanks again,
Cindy Krull and family
I'd like to thank everyone who came to my graduation
reception and celebrated with me. Also thanks to everyone
who has given me personal congratulations since then. It all
has meant a lot to me and I thank you for your friendship in
my life.
Chase Winters
To the Chapel Church Shower Committee,
Andrew (Burt) and I want to thank you for hosting such a
beautiful bridal shower for us and for the vacuum cleaner!
You ladies sure know how to host a shower and to make a girl
feel specialfrom the skits to the tea sandwiches, everything
was perfect; it was a day I will never forget, and I would
advise you all to not change a single thing for bridal showers
in the future! I have very much enjoyed getting to know so
many of you over the past few years, and I want to say an
extra thank you to the Chapel Church families for always
being so welcoming whenever I come home with Andrew. I
hope you all have a blessed summer!
Love,
Megan and Andrew

Graduati on & Baccalaureate
Chapel Had 14 Graduates!
Congratulations to our graduates (back l-r) Chase Winters, Logan Burt, Tyler Krull, Derek
Mann; (front) Shauna Smith (graduate school), Summer Langenbau, Chad Plaehn, Jennifer
Borota, Mackenzie Burt; absent: Lucas Catherwood, Josh Raymond, Codi Groth, Allison
Stegmann, and Tyler Thurston. The graduates were recognized during the May 11 worship
service and presented with books by Nurturing Ministries chair, Cheri Richter.
Best wishes to all our graduates in their future endeavors!!
GMGs baccalaureate was held May 14 at 7 pm at Chapel.
Twenty-eight seniors attended. Ila Jean Boerm and Sue Koster played
the prelude, Tyler Krull gave the welcome, and the congregation sang
Ten Thousand Reasons. Allison Stegmann, senior, and Darrel Burt,
parent, both gave inspirational and motivating talks. The senior
vocalists sang Closer to the Flame. Mackenzie Burt read several
poems, followed by Jay Beichleys message entitled Words of
Wisdom. He gave several scriptures and related how some of his
own lifes disappointments led to better outcomes than he dreamed
possible. Summer Langenbau & Mackenzie Burt sang In Christ
Alone, and Logan Burt gave the benediction. A big thank you to all participants as well as to the
Chapel Volunteers who served bars and drink to a full house. Graduates, our prayers are with you,
and we hope to see you back at Chapel!
Ice Cream Soci al
We have had a little taste of warm weather and you know what that means Ice Cream!
Remember, our Ice Cream Social is Saturday, June 14. There will probably be a few conicts along
the way, but Chapel people always seem to rise up and make things work!! The work schedule has
been emailed to the Chapel list and there are extra printed copies in the narthex. If there is a
conict, we ask that you please nd your own replacement!
We would like everyone to wear their purple Chapel Ice Cream Social t-shirts again this year.
We had a lot of compliments on them the last four years, and it also lets people know who to ask if
they have a question. If you need to order a t-shirt please sign up on the order form on the bulletin
board in the narthex.
Last year we purchased 20 more steel ice cream buckets as the old ones were rusting away.
Our plans are to make 80 gallons of lemon, 60 gallons of vanilla, and 50 gallons of chocolate ~ a
total of 190 gallons of ice cream!
We tried a new method of selling the quarts the last couple of years, and we thought it was
fair to both Chapel people and our community friends who come to eat and support our social:
1. Chapel people can order up to three quarts of any kind of ice cream per family up to noon
the day of the social. The sign up sheet for ice cream quarts is also on the bulletin board in
the narthex. The pre-ordered quarts will be set aside in a separate freezer so those who
ordered will be assured to get theirs and not be mixed in with others to be sold. There will
be no ice cream sold in the shed.
2. During the Social, there will be runners inside (by the cashier) who will go to the shed, bring
the ice cream to the cashier's desk, and give it to the eating customer.
3. Ice cream will only be sold to those eating supper at Chapel and to those who call in with a
food take-out order.
4. No ice cream will be sold to anyone who calls in that night for ice cream only.
5. At 11:30 am the next morning, Sunday, June 15, Chapel people may buy ice cream from
what was left over from the night before. If
other community members want to buy ice
cream, they should come at 12 noon on
June 15.

Thank you, everyone, for your understanding and
support!

The Chapel UMW met
Thursday May 1, 2014 at 7 pm at the
church. The program committee of
Karen Col l i ns and Marci a Wi ese

Trade%A Tri bute to Moms. They
displayed kitchen utensils and how they
represented attributes of a mother. The
items used were: eggbeater, spoon,
strainer, spatula, sifter, knife, measuring
cup, rolling pin, and a ladle. It was very
entertaining and we all could relate it to
our mothers and grandmothers.
The business meeting was called
to order by President Susan Beichley.
Roll call was answered by 13 members
describing one of their rst experiences
of living away from home. The minutes
of our last meeting were read and
approved. Also read was the report on
our Spring Breakfast from the Chapel
Chimes. Correspondence was received
from the family of Harriett Fleming. Jo
Svendsen also expressed thanks for
everyone thinking of her during her
medical treatment. The treasurers
report was presented and placed on le.
No bills were presented.
The nur t ur i ng commi t tee
reported they served 121 at Harriett
Flemings funeral. GMG Baccalaureate
is here at Chapel on May 14, 2014 at 7
pm.
Karen Col lins reported for
Education and Interpretation with
several notes on a Mother%Daughter
program from her mother.
Sue Koster made and Marcia
Wiese seconded the motion we give
&100 to House of Compassion for their
fund for donations to their clients.
Motion carried.
There will be no meeting in
June. Our next meeting is July 10, one
week later than usual due to the July 4
holiday. Mission U is July 13%16 in
Marshalltown.
Prayer requests were received.
Donald Mann will have heart surgery on
May 6 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Susan Bei chl ey read our monthl y
scripture and then closed with prayer.
A delicious dessert was served
by Karen Handorf and Shirley Svendsen
on tables decorated with May baskets.
Respectfully submitted,
Carolyn Kloster, secretary
Plans for Vacation Bible School are underway!!! The big event will be Mon-Fri, June 16-20, at Garwin UM Church from
8:30-11:45. All children, ages 3 through sixth grade are welcome. As in previous years, we are joining together with the churches in Garwin
and also Chapel Church. The program will be on Sunday, June 22, at 10:00 am at Garwin UMC. No regular Sunday School or church that day.
Many exciting events are being planned for the entire week. The theme is The Wacky World of Water. The children will dive a little
deeper into Bible stories, participate in Cold Water Crafts, Rush-n-Gush Games, and enjoy Splatterific Snacks.
A bus will leave Green Mountain at 8:15 a.m. from the elementary building and make a stop at Balmer's Daycare. The bus will drop off
children in Green Mountain at about 12:00 at the same locations.
Please look for the VBS registration form to come home from school and return it to GMG Elementary ASAP. We hope many children
will attend VBS. Thanks so much for your help and support! Director, Larae Edens, 474-2225 or larae.edens@gmail.com
