BACKGROUND OF EVENT

The era of the free market is getting closer. This would or would not force any state to
prepare a lot of things in the global competition. There are at least three things that must be
prepared such as the human resources (HR) which will be the 'agent' of the free market, the
readiness of natural resources (NR) and non-natural goods or services being marketed, and
the readiness of infrastructure that became the main support for the continuation of the free
market including government regulation or policy and infrastructure.
In this case, the readiness of human resources (HR) becomes the thing that must be
emphasized. The Qualified and strong human resources will be able to compete in the era of
the free market. We need to be deft and innovative human resorces in making ideas, and
strategy. Moreover, human resources should be supported by an international standard
training of formal and informal educational institution would be the steps that must be taken.
In addition, another aspect that must be understood indeed is communication skills.
The need of having a good communication skill becomes fundamental requirement in
order to maintain the competition. The use of international languages, especially English, in
any lobbying and negotiation will be inevitably. The better for people to use English, they
will be more closely to get prestigious a position in the national and international institutions.
Any institutions that plays in the free market will make its own standards in terms of
foreign language skills employees. The standard used is usually the Test of English for
International Communication (TOEIC). Comparing with the other English tests, TOEFL or
IELTS , they are usually intended to the educational domain. TOEIC is intended as a test for
joining foreign institutions. In the other hand, most universities are only introducing and
using TOEFL or IELTS as the requirement for certain activities. By means, TOEIC is less
popular among university students such as the students of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic
University Jakarta. Therefore, the socialization of TOEIC and its advantages is one of good
steps in answering the challenge of free trade WTO (World Trade Oranization), will be
implemented in 2020, and AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area) that are getting closer to human
life.

a. Socializing TOEIC to students of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta
b . preparing students knowledge of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta in
free market competition
c . Supporting the vision of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta to be a World
Class University .

OBJECTIVES AND PARTICIPANTS OF EVENTS
This activity is intended to all students of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta.
Our target is around 300 students.

Fund expenditures in this activity is designed for technical event, accommodation, publication and
consumption . Details and supposition of funds is attached (Appendix 2).

CLOSING
The era of globalization cannot be denied due to any individual must be able to compete. The
Competition is happening covers all aspects. In this case, the aspect of the communication cannot be
underestimated. The better for people to have good communication skill, the more chances they will
gain to maintain competition in the global era. In this case, TOEIC can be used as a standardized of
national and international institutions in international communication domain. By having knowledge
of the competition and the ways to compete, the students of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic
University Jakarta will get the better prepare in facing the free market era that will begin in early
2015.
