Course 5escription :
The French I Honors course focuses on developing the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking French. The
content of this course will focus on the study of vocabulary, grammar, expressions and reading in French. This course
will be taught exclusively in French and students will be expected to communicate in French in the classroom. This
course will introduce various French texts to students centered on French and Francophone history and culture in
order to further development in the language. French I Honors will use the Holt Bien Dit! textbook as well as computer
programs, !s and videos to further language learning and development.

Instructional 7aterials:
&ur primary resource will be Holt's Bien dit! textbook and workbook. Throughout the year, we will utili$e a variety of
supplemental materials including historical and cultural readings about several Francophone countries and cultures.
(dditionally, students will read Un t pas comme les autres by Hugette )ahler, Beginning French Reader *various
stories written in French+ and Joie de Lire.
8ra!ing:
The following is a breakdown of semester two grading *please see chart below for percentage breakdown+. ,tudents
are expected to submit assignments on a regular basis, adhere to deadlines, and have a valid excuse for missing
class. -issing assignments in the case of an e*cuse! absence must be submitted on the day you return to class. It
is your responsibility to check the class web page, e.mail a classmate or e.mail -s. %eid for assignments when you
are absent.
eta9e %olicy: (ll unit pro/ects and ma/or unit exams *including oral exams+ can be resubmitted or retaken throughout
the course of the semester to improve overall score. 0eekly 1ui$$es are not included with 2unit exams'. These
resubmissions and retakes help assess improved understanding of the material. Therefore, any other missing
assignments and late work left at the end of a grading period are not accepted. %esubmissions and retakes of pro/ects
and tests will need to take place before school or during prearranged study hall times. ,tudents are reminded on a
regular basis in class about the ability to resubmit or retake ma/or pro/ects or tests.
:nit %ro.ects an! %erfor"ance Assess"ents: These pro/ects and assessments will typically be between #3 and 43
points, given throughout the semester. These pro/ects are designed to assess your knowledge and understanding of
the French &ne material during the semester.
Tests an! ;ui<<es: The tests and 1ui$$es will be given throughout the semester to assess knowledge and
understanding of certain unit material. These pro/ects are designed to assess your knowledge and understanding of
French &ne material on a weekly basis throughout the semester.
Final -*a": (s part of the Tests an! ;ui<<es grade, there will be a cumulative semester two final exam given in
5une 63#3. The final exam is designed to assess your knowledge and understanding of all semester two French &ne
material including vocabulary, grammatical concepts *appropriate utili$ation of different parts of speech+, listening
comprehension and oral and written proficiency.
Class %articipation: The class participation grade will be based on daily participation in class. 7articipation will be
assessed by daily preparedness *do you have all of your daily materials8+, note.taking, participation in classroom
discussion and daily work done alone or in groups.
Journals an! eflections: The /ournals and reflections are designed so that the student can assess his own progress
and understanding of the material in French &ne. These assignments give students the opportunity to express their
feelings about given course material or performance in order to address achievement in the language.
Ho"e3or9: Homework will be given on an as.needed basis in order to improve student understanding of material
inside and outside the classroom. These assignments will not be included in the 1uantitative rubric, but rather are
meant to enhance the 1uality of instruction and student comprehension in French &ne.

responsibility not only to educate students in the research process of writing and proper documenting, but also to hold
students accountable for submitting original work. 0hether as assignment is in a visual, written, or spoken format,
students are expected to accurately reference all sources of information consulted for the pro/ect. 7lagiarism is
regarded as a serious offense and will not be tolerated by hi(rts or by any institution of higher learning. (ll
departments must enforce and students must adhere to this policy.
!efinition of 7lagiarism
7lagiarism is defined as:
opying of another person's ideas and>or works, whether intentional or not, in whole or in part, from a print or
non.print source and using those ideas or works as one's own.
