CAYENNE PEPPER CAN RELIEVE PAIN, BOOST METABOLISM AND MORE

(NaturalNews) The cayenne pepper is the hot chili

pepper of the Capsicum annuum plant, which is
native to northern South America and southern
North America. A nightshade fruit that is related to
the bell pepper, jalapeno and paprika, cayenne
peppers are often dried and ground into a powder
and then used to prepare spicy meals. Many
cultures also like to add them to cakes, chocolates
and even beverages.

Despite their various uses in the kitchen, however,
cayenne peppers are first and foremost a medicine.
In fact, American Indians have been using cayenne
peppers to treat numerous medical conditions for at
least 9,000 years. Moreover, cayenne peppers
have been extensively studied, and scientists now understand which compounds give them their significant healing properties.
Four reasons to love cayenne pepper
1.) Natural painkillers -- Cayenne peppers are rich in an active compound called capsaicin. This tasteless and odorless
compound, which is found in all chili peppers and is responsible for their trademark heat, is a potent anti-inflammatory and
analgesic, and is proven to relieve pain. For example, a study published in The Clinical Journal of Pain found that the pain
relief provided by capsaicin for treating cluster headaches, itching, neck pain, psoriasis and other conditions was far greater
than that provided by the placebo. Another study published in Clinical Therapeutics discovered that capsaicin cream provided
"significantly more relief" to patients suffering from arthritis-related pain than the placebo, leading the researchers to conclude
that "capsaicin cream is a safe and effective treatment for arthritis."
Scientists now understand that capsaicin is a great natural painkiller because it inhibits substance P, a neuropeptide that is
associated with pain and inflammation. The hotter a chili, the more capsaicin it contains, and thus the greater its painkilli ng
capacities. Since cayenne peppers are one of the hottest commercially available chilies around, they're a great natural
alternative to allopathic painkillers like paracetamol and Nurofen.
2.) Cardiovascular support -- The capsaicin in cayenne peppers is also a vasodilator, which is a substance that causes
blood vessels to dilate. This helps reduce plaque build-ups in the arteries, thus decreasing the risk of high blood pressure and
heart disease. According to the American Cancer Society, the capsaicin in cayenne peppers is also used to treat related
conditions like menstrual cramps, stomach aches and ulcers, and indigestion.
3.) Increases metabolism and reduces blood sugar -- Research featured in the Journal of the Medical Association of
Thailand found that women who consumed 5 grams of fresh Capsicum frutescens (which are included in the Capsicum
annuum species) mixed into a glucose drink experienced a "significantly lower" rise in plasma glucose and a "significantly
increased" metabolic rate compared to the control group which drank a regular glucose drink. This makes cayenne pepper a
good food for diabetics or anyone else who wishes to avoid excess blood sugar. Moreover, this increase in metabolism might
also explain why cayenne pepper is known to contribute to weight loss.
4.) Boosts immunity and vision -- Just one tablespoon of cayenne pepper contains almost half of our recommended daily
intake of vitamin A. Vitamin A, which our bodies obtain through the pepper's impressive levels of carotenoids (especially beta-
carotene, the carotenoid that gives the fruits their red color), is an essential antioxidant that provides our immune system with
its first line of defense against invading pathogens. Vitamin A-rich foods like cayenne pepper can also prevent age-related
macular degeneration and are even known to reverse deteriorating eyesight.
Organic, non-irradiated cayenne pepper powder is easily purchased online or in health food stores. Try mixing two teaspoons
of it with apple cider vinegar and honey for the perfect morning detox drink!

PAIN AND ITS LYMPHOLOGICAL RELIEF
(NaturalNews) Modern medicine continues to ignore the actual
dilemmas associated with pain, as if they are somehow irrelevant, yet,
when pain is properly relieved, it can lead to healing in a short period of
time, and naturally so. The process of healing one part of the body is
the same for every other part as well, and this is a potential game
changer in the field of "healthcare."
There are two main aspects of pain and its proper relief that, if
everyone understood, could help prevent untold suffering and save
countless lives:
1) Pain represents much more than just a very unpleasant sensation. It
is an indication of an inflammatory process that alters the condition of any tissue area where it takes place (a problem not
solved by mere pain killers). Even discomfort can be a sign of blocked circulation and a process of degeneration. Think of
these sensors as an alarm for the blood stream.
2) Most times, pain can be quickly and easily relieved naturally (without pain killers) by mitigating inflammation and hastening
the withdrawal of any (toxic) excess fluids, thereby returning the tissues to the same state that they were in before any tissue
injury.

There are two very different causes of pain or tissue injury: 1) initial and 2) subsequent.
1) Initial injury can be a one-time thing that nevertheless results in damage to previously perfectly healthy tissues or bones,
thus causing swelling, an inflammatory reaction, edema and a condition that if allowed to remain will become degenerative due
to blocked irrigation and deficient oxygenation.
When tissues are damaged, they release poisons called histamine and bradykinin. The poisons then dilate
the blood capillaries, causing a certain amount of blood proteins and water to escape (from the blood stream) into the tissue
spaces. This is the process of swelling or inflammation that results in coagulating extracellular fluids and the morbidity of
blocked circulation. We can consider this as a subsequent phase ofinjury that can cause further damage if not resolved
immediately.

2) Subsequent injury is the result of swelling, inflammation and residual morbidity. This is the condition of all degenerative
disease, because it damages tissues continually. Often, this process progresses so slowly that it is hardly noticeable. This can
be prevented and eliminated if we just know what to do. Taking action to reverse the edema, and morbid blockages to the
circulation, can speed up the healing process.
There are only two proper ways to relieve pain:
1) Working to reverse the process of inflammation (natural healing arts); and
2) Helping the lymphatic system deal with as many toxins and as much excess fluid (that becomes trapped in the tissue
spaces) as possible, because this helps improve the actual condition and permanently reduces any subsequent injury or its
cause (natural healing arts).
The blood can no longer irrigate tissues with an abundance of oxygen and nutrients when cells are held in a positive pressure.
Only the lymphatic system can vacuum out any trapped blood proteins and excess fluid from around the cells, regardless of its
many causes. Trapped plasma constituents and excess fluid often remain after tissue is damaged, and so long as it does, it
can be a catalyst of further inflammation and degenerative disease.
Dr. C. Samuel West, who founded the International Academy of Lymphology, often stated that pain was caused by lack of
oxygen. Those who study his Applied Lymphology Course learn the process of how lack of oxygen is caused in any isolated
area of tissue and how to begin eliminating such blockages lymphologically, to allow proper oxygenation at the tissue cell level
and thereby assure ultimate healing.

DO YOU HAVE POISON ON YOUR PLATE?

(NaturalNews) Would you knowingly eat rat poison or drink
gasoline? Obviously not, as it will harm and perhaps kill you. Yet
many people today are consuming the poisonous foods I list in this
article without giving it a second thought. They are doing this
because they've been successfully deceived by the media, the
culture or family traditions into thinking that these ingredients don't
require a second thought.
Regardless of the reason, the "garbage in garbage out" principle is
still true. The illnesses that people you know and love suffer from
are just the result of their body being fed this garbage. Prevention
is still the best medicine. Therefore, the way we achieve the health
and healing that the body was designed for is to prevent this junk
food garbage from going in our body in the first place; then we
won't have to deal with the garbage coming out (in the form of
disease, etc.).
All food is not created equal
One of the popular yet toxic foods is caffeine. Coffee is fine, but the caffeine is the problem. Why is caffeine so toxic?
Research shows that caffeine is one of the toxic chemicals produced by some plants as a defense mechanism against being
eaten or disturbed. In fact, these chemicals (of which, caffeine is one) work to produce neurological damage in plant-eating
animals. Yet, companies harvest and package this addictive chemical as an ingredient in various foods and sell it to the publ ic.
But if it can promote neurological damage in animals, just imagine what it's doing to humans over the long term. Herbal coffee
(i.e. real coffee) and herbal tea are healthier alternatives.

White table salt and white sugar are some more toxic ingredients. Consuming these can weaken the immune system's
defense against a cold or flu as well as lead to type 2 diabetes, arthritis, obesity, emotional problems, tooth decay,
dehydration, kidney failure, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, etc. If the ingredients label just says "salt," "sugar" or
"evaporated cane juice," it's safe to assume that it's the processed kind. Now the body does need salt, but it needs the natural,
unprocessed salt (still containing its trace minerals) which is pink in color. A source of healthy natural sugar (which the body
also needs) comes from fruit and vegetables (preferably organic). Stevia, xylitol and raw honey are healthier sugar substitutes
as well.

Consuming processed grains such as white flour, white rice and packaged cereals can contribute to heart disease, abdominal
fat, constipation and more. Look for sprouted and whole grains (quinoa, brown rice, etc). In addition, numerous studies like the
China Study show that consumption of dairy and excessive animal products has contributed to physical problems like cancer,
osteoporosis, heart disease, obesity and more.

Due to space constraints for this article, I can only mention one more category of poison foods: genetically modified (GM)
foods. This is a broad topic, but suffice it to say that studies show a strong link associating the consumption of GM crops (e.g.
corn, soy, alfalfa) and the animals that eat these crops with the rise of food allergies, pregnancy complications, reduced fertility
in humans and more. In addition, evidence shows that some GMOs produce their own built-in pesticides which have
caused health problems in laboratory animals. Unless the food/ingredient is non-GMO-verified or organic, it may be a GM
food.

Your responsibility

Though they should, ultimately it's not the job of the food industry to warn consumers of the dangers of toxic food/ingredients;
it's your responsibility. Read the ingredients labels, and get informed so you can avoid the toxins that will put you on a path
away from optimal health.

ANTIOXIDANT MITOQ REJUVENATES AGING ARTERIES
(NaturalNews) An antioxidant specifically engineered to seek out the mitochondria within cells may help reverse the aging of
arteries, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of Colorado-Boulder and published in The Journal
of Physiology.
The study was funded by a grant from the National Institute on
Aging.
Blood vessels aged by free radicals
To keep the body healthy, blood vessels must be able to dilate and
contract as needed. When dilation is required, the endothelium (a
thin layer of cells lining the blood vessels) produces a chemical
known as nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is highly vulnerable to destruction
by free radicals, however -- particularly the free radical superoxide,
which is actually produced by the body's own mitochondria. Superoxide also degrades one of the enzymes that functions as a
precursor to nitric oxide, leading to even lower levels of the chemical and decreased dilation of bl ood vessels. This, in turn,
increases the risk of heart disease.
Superoxide is necessary to maintain cellular function, but as the body ages, mitochondria begin to produce it in higher
quantities. At the same time, levels of antioxidants in the body often decrease with age, which leads to even greater circulating
levels of superoxide. Superoxide then begins to cause damage to the mitochondria themselves -- which induces the
mitochondria to produce even more superoxide, leading to even lower blood levels of antioxidants and more cellular damage.

"You have this kind of balance, but with aging there is this shift," lead author Rachel Gioscia-Ryan said. "There become way
more reactive oxygen species than your antioxidant defenses can handle."
Finding an antioxidant that works
Previous studies have attempted to use antioxidant supplements to lower superoxide levels and thereby improve vascular
dilation, but none have been successful. The researchers in the current study hypothesized that most antioxidants do not
reach mitochondria and therefore have a limited impact on superoxide.
In order to get around this problem, the researchers specifically engineered an antioxidant for affinity for mitochondria. This
chemical, MitoQ, was formed by adding a mitochondria-binding molecule to coenzyme Q10 (also known as ubiquinone or
CoQ10).
"The question is, 'Why aren't we all just taking a bunch of vitamin C?" Gioscia-Ryan said. "Scientists think that, taken orally,
antioxidants like vitamin C aren't getting to the places where the reactive oxygen species are being made. MitoQ basically
tracks right to the mitochondria."
When the researchers gave elderly mice a MitoQ supplement for four weeks, their arteries went from functioning at a level
equivalent to a 70-to-80-year-old human to a level equivalent to a 25-to-35-year-old human. In addition, the mice's levels of
nitric oxide increased, their levels of oxidative stress decreased and their mitochondrial health improved.
"One of the hallmarks of primary aging is endothelial dysfunction," Gioscia-Ryan said. "MitoQ completely restored endothelial
function in the old mice. They looked like young mice."
Although tests into its function are still in preliminary stages, MitoQ can already be purchased as a dietary supplement and
skin cream. CoQ10, the chemical used as the base for MitoQ, can also be purchased as a nutritional supplement.
CoQ10 is a substance naturally produced by the body to help enzymes carry out various functions -- including
helping mitochondria produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the major cellular energy source. CoQ10 has also been linked,
on its own, to prevention of cellular damage and improvements in high blood pressure. It is also being investigated for a
number of other potential benefits, including fighting cancer, improving cognitive health, slowing the effects of aging, reducing
diabetic neuropathy pain, lowering high cholesterol and improving heart health.

ENJOY YOUR SALAD WITH OLIVE OIL AND A WATERMELON SNACK TO
NATURALLY LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE

(NaturalNews) A staggering number of people from all
walks of life have little comprehension of how very small
increases in resting blood pressure over the course of
years and decades promote cardiovascular disease,
stroke and an early death. Often referred to as a "silent
killer," hypertension frequently runs in families and is
largely preventable with blood pressure monitoring along
with dietary and lifestyle modifications. Losing just 5
percent of total body weight, along with regular,
moderate exercise and limiting most processed foods,
can result in normal systolic/diastolic readings for the
majority of people. More importantly, recent studies have
shown that normal blood pressure readings should be
maintained at or below 115/75 mm Hg, and every 20 mm
Hg increase over that base reading doubles the risk of a
heart attack.
A recent study released by the British Heart Foundation and published in the journal PNAS has determined that a diet
combining unsaturated fats with nitrite-rich fats and vegetables such as olive oil and lettuce can protect you from hypertension,
helping explain why some previous studies have shown that a Mediterranean diet can lower blood pressure. Scientists in this
study determined that a Mediterranean diet, typically consisting of unsaturated fats commonly found in olive oil, nuts and
avocados, along with vegetables like spinach, celery and carrots, which are rich in nitrites and nitrates, combine in the body
and result in the formation of nitro fatty acids.
Natural foods including watermelon and extra-virgin olive oil help prevent
hypertension
Researchers found that the process by which these nitro fatty acids lower blood pressure involves the inhibition of an enzyme
known as soluble epoxide hydrolase which regulates blood pressure. Lead study author Dr. Philip Eaton concluded, "The
findings of our study help to explain why previous research has shown that a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-
virgin olive oil or nuts can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular problems like stroke, heart failure and heart attacks."
One to two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil and five to seven daily servings of leafy vegetables can provide nitrites and
nitrates to help naturally lower blood pressure.
In an independent study, researchers from Florida State University, publishing in the American Journal of Hypertension, found
that eating watermelon could significantly reduce blood pressure in overweight individuals both at rest and while under stress.
Scientists conducting the study selected a cohort of 13 middle-aged, obese men and women who also suffered from
high blood pressure. During the 12-week course of the study, the team divided members of the group in half. For the first six
weeks, one group was given 4 grams of the amino acid L-citrulline and 2 grams of L-arginine per day, both from watermelon
extract. The other group was given a placebo for six weeks.
The results of this study confirmed that consuming watermelon had a positive impact on aortic blood pressure and other
vascular parameters. Over the past decade, numerous research efforts have clearly shown that diet and lifestyle interventions
play a significant role in preventing and reversing the effects of hypertension. These two studies continue to show that
consuming natural foods can independently help lower blood pressure and facilitate risk reduction to prevent potentially fatal
chronic illnesses including stroke and cardiovascular disease.

WHAT YOU EAT CHANGES GENE EXPRESSION FOR COLORECTAL
CANCER

(NaturalNews) One in three people carries a
enetic variant that makes them especially
sensitive to increased colorectal cancer risk
from processed meat consumption, according
to a study conducted by researchers from 27
different institutions and published in the
journal PLOS Genetics on April 17.
"Our results identify a novel gene-diet
interaction with processed meat for colorectal
cancer, highlighting that diet may modify the
effect of genetic variants on disease risk, which
may have important implications for
prevention," the researchers wrote.
Dangers of red and processed meat

Colorectal cancer is the third-most common tumor type and the third-leading cause of cancer death in both men and women of
most ethnic backgrounds. It has been linked to both genetic and dietary factors; genome-wide surveys have identified
approximately 30 separate gene variants associated with colorectal cancer risk, while consumption of red and processed meat
has been linked to increased risk, and consumption of fruits, vegetables and fiber has been linked to decreased risk.

For example, a 2008 study by the National Cancer Institute found that people who ate the most red meat had a 25 percent
higher risk of colorectal cancer than people who ate the least. The researchers found that one in 10 colorectal cancer cases
could be prevented just by reducing meat intake.
Little research has been conducted, however, into the interaction between these risk factors.
"The possibility that genetic variants may modify an individual's risk for disease based on diet has not been thoroughly
investigated but represents an important new insight into disease development," researcher Dr. Li Hsu said.
The researchers compared dietary information, cancer status and roughly 2.7 million genetic variants in more than 18,000
people who had taken part in 10 separate studies later pooled together into the Genetics and Epidemiology of Colorectal
Cancer Consortium (GECCO) and Colorectal Cancer Family Registry. Approximately half the participants had colorectal
cancer, and the other half did not.

One in three vulnerable
In all participants, greater red and processed meat intake was associated with increased colorectal cancer risk, while fruit,
vegetable and fiber intake was correlated with a lower risk. The researchers further found that individuals with
the gene variants rs4143094-TG and rs4143094-TT experience an even greater risk associated with processed meat
consumption, compared to those with the rs4143094-GG variant.
This particular gene is notable because it occurs in a place on the genome near a gene known as GATA3, which codes for a
transcription factor that plays a role in immune function. Prior studies have linked GATA3 to various types of cancer.
About a third of the population carries the genetic variants found to be associated with greater risk from processed meat
consumption
"Our results, if replicated by other studies, may provide us with a greater understanding of the biology into colorectal
carcinogenesis," researcher Dr. Ulrike Peters of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Public Health Sciences
Division said.

Although the study was not set up to explain the connections between processed meat, the gene in question and colorectal
cancer, the researchers speculated that, in people with certain gene variants, processed meat might trigger an immune and
inflammatory response that promotes tumor formation.
Researchers hope that further investigation into the connection between dietary and genetic cancer risk could lead to more
personalized cancer prevention care.
"Diet is a modifiable risk factor for colorectal cancer," researcher Dr. Jane Figueiredo said. "Our study is the first to understand
whether some individuals are at higher or lower risk based on their genomic profile. This information can help us better
understand the biology and maybe in the future lead to targeted prevention strategies."

SURPRISE! DOCTORS SUDDENLY URGE IODINE SUPPLEMENTATION
FOR PREGNANT WOMEN TO PROTECT DEVELOPING BRAINS

(NaturalNews) The American Academy of
Pediatrics Council on Environmental Health has
just announced something that seems totally out
of character for conventional doctors: they've said
that pregnant women are deficient in
iodine and have urged widespread iodine
supplementation to protect the development of
their babies' brains.
Iodine is, of course, an essential mineral for
supporting fetal development, breast health and
prostate health*. It's crucial for healthy thyroid
function, too, and Natural News has been
teaching readers about the health benefits of
iodine supplementation for over a decade.

Now it seems this information is finally being embraced by western medicine. Even Reuters, an anti -nutrition news service that
often distorts medical news in favor of pharmaceuticals, is now reporting: (1)
Pregnant women should take an iodide-containing supplement to protect the brain development of their babies, according to
the leading U.S. group of pediatricians. Iodine, which the body can get from iodide, is needed to make the thyroid hormones
that are required for children's brain development before and after birth.
The journal Pediatrics even published the iodine recommendations, breaking new ground for a science journal that rarely
recommends mineral supplementation.
Get up to 1100 micrograms per day
The new recommendations say that pregnant or lactating women should get from 290 to 1100 micrograms of iodide each day,
and they recommend the compound form of potassium iodide.

Yes, this is the exact same form of iodine used to protect the thyroid from radiation following a nuclear catastrophe or nuclear
war. Iodine has many uses in the body, and iodine deficiency causes widespread symptoms and organ function problems.

Most woman not getting enough iodine

Mainstream medicine is finally coming around to the fact that most people in western society are chronically deficient in key
lifesaving nutrients like iodine and vitamin D.

The percentage of the population that's deficient is often far larger than you might suspect, too. Recommended daily intake
levels of nutrients are kept artificially low by outmoded government standards, so even though this Council says one-third of
U.S. women are iodine deficient, the real number is most likely over two-thirds. Iodine experts like Dr. David Brownstein might
say it's even higher.

Processed foods are almost universally deficient in iodine. In fact, my testing at the Natural News Forensic Food Lab has
found processed foods to be surprisingly low in all metals and minerals, including toxic heavy metals like lead and cadmium.
When foods are heavily refined and processed, it seems that all the elements are stripped out, both good and bad.

As a result, most Americans are eating "empty" foods devoid of any real nutrition. Over time, chronic deficiencies in iodine,
selenium, zinc, vitamin D, magnesium and other nutrients become symptomatic. Eventually they get diagnosed as "cancer" or
"heart disease" or "diabetes." But instead of treating patients with nutrition, doctors usually just prescribe drugs or toxic
treatments like chemotherapy.

If nutritional deficiencies were eliminated across the U.S. population, the health care system would all but collapse from the
sudden lack of sickness. That's why this information from the American Academy of Pediatrics Council is so refreshing -- it's
finally a confirmation that iodine supplementation is crucial for the health of pregnant women and their babies.

"Obviously iodine is critical to the fetal and child brain," said Dr. Loralei Thornburg, a pregnancy expert at the University of
Rochester Medical Center in New York. "Therefore having a diet that's rich in iodine is critical."

Sources of iodine and iodide

Potassium iodide is a rather expensive source of dietary iodine. Liquid iodine supplements such as "nascent iodine" offer a far
more affordable form of iodine supplementation.
Laboratory tests conducted by Natural News show that every major brand of liquid iodine we tested was free from toxic heavy
metals, without exception.
The Natural News Store offers a nascent iodine tincture delivering 485,000 micrograms of iodine per bottle, making it one of
the best values in iodine supplementation for your dollar.

EAT MORE OLIVES TO WARD OFF CANCER, IMPROVE OVERALL HEALTH

(NaturalNews) Olives are much more than a tasty side
dish to be enjoyed as an appetizer. They pack a punch
when it comes to health, and as such, are ideal to add
to meals like salads. In fact, studies have found that
olives have compounds that help fight cancer,
specifically of the colon and breast (1).
One study from the University of Barcelona discovered
that the skin of an olive contains maslinic acid, which is
known to kill off cancer cells and drastically slow down
the growth of colon cancer cells. Impressively, the
concentration of maslinic acid in olive skin may be as
high as 80 percent (1).
The second study, this time conducted jointly by
researchers at the Catalan Institute of Oncology in Girona and the University of Granada, found that phenols in extra-virgin
olive oil played a role in the death of breast cancer cells, a process called "apoptosis" (1)
It's no wonder then, that olives make the George Mateljan Foundation's list of The World's Healthiest Foods for their ability to
fight cancer, among other things. In a description on their web site, it's stated that the "Antioxidant phytonutrients in oli ves may
have a special ability to protect DNA (deoxyribonucleic acids)--the key chemical component of genetic material in our cells--
from oxygen damage." (2)
Olives fight high cholesterol, inflammation too
In addition to combating cancer cells, olives can benefit health in other ways. Black olives, for example, have a high vitamin E
content, which is vital for brain, lung and blood cell function (3). According to the National Institutes of Health, eating foods
like olives which have a high unsaturated, healthy fat content helps boost the body's absorption of vitamin E.
Olives are also a way to help heart health as well as keep inflammation at bay. Their monounsaturated fat plays a role in
regulating cholesterol levels, lowering the bad (LDL) and raising the good (HDL) levels (3). And according to the Arthritis
Foundation, studies have shown a correlation between olive oil and inflammation; the compounds in olive oil can halt the
production of inflammation in a way that words similarly to NSAIDs (4).
This is good news, especially considering that there are many harmful health effects that may result from taking NSAIDs. The
Mayo Clinic says some problems that may arise from taking NSAIDs are mouth inflammation, night blindness and severe pain
(5). A natural, healthy option like eating olives and using extra-virgin olive oil is a much better alternative to keep health in tip-
top shape

THE TOP 3 WAYS TO NATURALLY INCREASE HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE

One of the main causes of aging is decreased production of
hormones. That would include testosterone, progesterone,
estrogen, growth hormone, and others. Out of all of these
hormones, its a lower level of growth hormone (HGH) that is
most associated with premature aging.
By the age of 40, growth hormone secretion is only 40% of
what it was at age 20. Thats a significant drop in production
and it only continues to go down from there. By association,
our IGF-1(Insulin-like Growth Factor 1) level also decreases
along with HGH at an identical pace. IGF-1 is made in
response to human growth hormone and is needed for human
growth hormone to have an effect on muscles and other tissues.
Decreased production of HGH is directly associated with many of the signs of aging. These signs include: cardiovascular
disease, increased body fat, osteoporosis, muscle loss, aging and wrinkling skin, gray and thin hair, decreased energy, low
libido, sexual dysfunction, high blood pressure, and an inability to sleep properly.
The big question is can we do anything about this? The answer is yes, we can! There are a number of ways to naturally
increase our growth hormone level, and Im going to talk about three of my favorite ways right now.
The first way to naturally increase HGH is to take a special blend of 4 key amino acids. Taking this combination has been
found to boost HGH levels by as much as 600%. Buy the following amino acids separately, or look for a combination that has
all of them included. Glycine, Ornithine, Arginine, and Lysine are the amino acids needed, and 2,000 mg of each of them
should be taken before bedtime. Take them for three weeks and then take one week off.
The next way to increase HGH is to exercise in a certain way. High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT; done first thing in the
morning on an empty stomach will naturally increase growth hormone secretion. My favorite form of HIIT is sprinting. I will
sprint as fast and intensely as possible for 30 or 40 seconds, rest for 90 seconds, and then go again. Ill do about 8 10
rounds. It may not sound like much, but trust me, it is an intense workout and youll be beat when youre done. Amplify your
results by sprinting up a hill! For those who like lifting weights, like me, doing heavy squats with dumbbells, or doing heavy
weight on the squat press machine, will also increase HGH. Again, be sure to do this on an empty stomach, first thing in the
morning.
Probably the best way to increase HGH is to take a high quality bovine colostrum supplement daily. The reason why colostrum
is such a great way to increase growth hormone is probably because it contains the entire IGF-1 superfamily. As an added
benefit, colostrum also inhibits and reverses thymic involution. As we get older, our thymus glands shink in size, and restoring
the thymus gland to its original size and functioning has been found to be a key to fighting the aging process. Colostrum
should be taken on an empty stomach but can be taken anytime. Since colostrum also strengthens the immune system, its
great to take in larger amounts during times of high stress. I like to take some right before bed, and usually Ill also take some
more first thing in the morning.
Well, there you have it, three of the very best ways to naturally increase growth hormone. Dont despair if youre older and
have not done anything yet to bolster your bodies production of this valuable hormone. Research has shown that simply
increasing HGH and keeping it at optimal levels can reverse the signs of aging that its lack has been linked to.
Just pick one or all of the above techniques and start fighting and reversing the aging process today!

SIX WAYS TO GET MORE ENERGY TODAY

Life is really no excuse for feeling tired. Neither is getting old, or
congress or global warming. We all have stress that make us feel
fatigued but many can be corrected easily. So if you experience that
2pm slump, have trouble getting out of bed or just feel worn out by
days end try one or all of these simple solutions:
#1 Get enough rest
When did skimping on sleep become a badge of honor? Youre not a
wimp if you insist on getting 7-9 hours of restorative sleep a night,
because we ALL need it. Depriving ourselves of sleep even for a
night or two saps us of energy and makes it hard to concentrate. So go to bed early or wake up later, but just make getting a
good nights rest a nightly habit.
#2 Exercise Regularly
This can be tough when youre already tired, but youll be surprised at how energized you feel after. Physical activity brings
oxygen to the brain and reduces stress. Start slowly by walking 10-20 minutes in the morning (get off the subway a stop or two
early) or lift some weights. Or check out the countless workout DVDs and YouTube videos , many of which divide the
exercises into 10-minute segments that are less daunting to beginners.
#3 Eat smaller meals and snacks
We dont notice it because were so used to it, but digestion uses a ton of energy in the body. The more we eat, the more the
body needs to rest. That explains why we all pass out after the Thanksgiving feast. Further eating a large meal triggers the
body to release more insulin, resulting in low blood sugar. Smaller meals and snacks throughout the day can help keep blood
sugar steady just make sure youre eating healthy foods with lean protein, beneficial fats and complex carbs.
#4 Stay Hydrated dehydration often masks itself as fatigue and lightheadedness. Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day to
stave off sleepiness.
#5 Choose Your Companions Wisely
Ever notice that spending time with some people can feel like youve gotten a B12 shot while others leave you feeling sapped
and depressed. Limit your time with Emotional Vampires people who try to suck the life out of you by dumping their
problems on your lap. Seek out friends who provide love, encouragement, compassion and hopefully a good sense of humor.
#6 Stay Positive
Dont turn into an Emotional Vampire yourself. Sadness, anger, grief and frustration are parts of life and emotions we will all
experience from time to time. But there is a difference between feeling your feelings and dwelling on them. Compulsively
overthinking about resentments, fears or worries makes us depressed and tired. When you see this happening to you try to
meditate and clear your mind, call a friend, get involved in a useful activity, help someone worse off than you, or make a li st of
what youre grateful for these should snap you back into reality and give you a dose of happiness in no time.

TOP 5 SOURCES OF PLANT PROTEIN
(NaturalNews) Good quality sources of protein are widely
available, and many of them come from outside the
animal kingdom. It's time to identify the top sources of
highly digestible plant protein with the most benefits for
your health.
Chlorella
Chlorella is garnering more and more attention as a
superlative superfood that delivers a wide array of
nutrients and helps rid our body of heavy metals. What
many people don't know is that it is an exceptional source
of vegan protein.

Chlorella is commonly cited as 58 percent protein (and at times, up to 75 percent) with a balance of important amino acids,
including all the essential ones the body can't manufacture. When you combine this with an abundance of enzymes,
probiotics, and phytonutrients, chlorella becomes a high quality protein source that is easily digestible as well.
Hemp
Hemp has no shortage of health benefits, including being the perfect ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 (3:1), the most abundant
source of EFAs (essential fatty acids), and a rich source of phytonutrients, antioxidants, and plant sterols.
Hemp is up to 47 percent protein, and contains 20 amino acids; including the 9 essential amino acids our body cannot
produce, making it one of the few plant-based complete protein sources.
Bee pollen
Bee pollen is not a well-known food, but that doesn't mean it is not powerful. It is considered one of nature's most complete
and balanced foods, with a rich source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hormones, enzymes and fats, as well as significant
quantities of natural antibiotics.
Bee pollen is between 25 to 40 percent protein, and contains 22 amino acids which have five to seven times the amino acids
found in equal weights of beef, milk, eggs, or cheese. Factor that in with the incredible enzyme content of bee pollen, and you
have a highly digestible form of a complete plant protein.
Chia
Chia is an ancient fuel source used for centuries by some of the healthiest people. These seeds are an incredible source of
omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
Chia is 21 percent protein and contains all the essential amino acids in proper ratios, so it is considered a complete protei n.
When soaked, they absorb 10 times their weight in water which helps hydrate the colon and move toxins out of the gut. This
create a healthy digestive system that absorbs nutrients, including protein, more effectively.
Chia can be used in no grain cereals, smoothies, baked goods, and simply eaten on their own as pudding (once soaked, they
will have that type of consistency).

Quinoa
Quinoa is a seed grown native to South America. It was seen as a sacred food to the Incas, and is a great source of
manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, copper, zinc, and vitamin B-6 and B-9.
Quinoa is 14 percent protein and contains all the essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. It also has prebiotic
properties which helps feed the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract, making it easy to digest.
You can use quinoa in many different ways, most notably as a substitute for other grains such as rice. It also makes a great
breakfast as an alternative to cereal or oatmeal, and can be used in many baked goods as well.
It can be difficult to get past the mindset that protein needs to come from animal sources. However, you can now see that
vegan sources of protein are not only comparable, but superior in most cases.

VITAMINS FOR ACNE: NUTRITIONAL SECRETS TO CLEAN SKIN FROM
THE INSIDE OUT

(NaturalNews) Affecting as many as 50 million Americans,
acne is the country's most common skin disorder. And while
the teen years may first come to mind when thinking about
acne, people from all age groups -- nearly 85 percent of the
population, in fact -- suffer from the condition over the course
of their lives. (1)
While there are plenty of over-the-counter medications for
acne, these may contain chemicals which cause everything
from skin irritations to birth defects. It's no surprise, then, that
an increasing number of people are turning to alternative
acne treatments. Read on to learn about the power of
vitamins for acne, as well as other safe, natural remedies for
clear, clean skin from the inside out.
Vitamin & Mineral Magic
Vitamin supplements offer help for acne sufferers and involve no harsh chemicals or toxins. Some leading vitamins and
minerals used in the treatment of acne include:
Beta-carotene: Beta-carotene -- found in fruits, vegetables, eggs, whole milk, butter and a number of other foods -- is
used to treat acne, as well as a number of other skin conditions including eczema, cold sores, psoriasis, wounds,
burns, sunburn and many others. (2) Applied to the skin, beta-carotene does everything from reducing wrinkles to
protecting against sun damage.
Zinc: Dubbed an "essential trace element" to human health, zinc has long been used for the treatment of acne. As a
topical application, it not only leads to clearer skin but is also helpful in healing wounds and treating herpes simplex
infections. (3) Combined with essential fatty acids, including flaxseed and evening primrose oil, zinc can be used to
ward off clogged pores which lead to acne.
Vitamin E and Vitamin C: These antioxidants protect the skin from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Along
with Selenium, they are thought to stabilize acne-producing glutathione peroxidase levels. Vitamin B, meanwhile, is
often used as a treatment for premenstrual acne.
Vitamin D: From promoting healthy bones to lowering blood pressure to warding off a number of cancers and chronic
illness, vitamin D offers major potential as part of a daily supplement regimen. Research indicates that vitamin D may
increase oil-excreting sebocytes' production of cathelicidin and defensin, which may have antibacterial properties. (4)
Vitamin D also wards off acne by giving the immune system a beneficial boost. Lastly, some researchers hypothesize
that sunlight's acne-reducing properties may be attributed to vitamin D.

Other Natural Acne Remedies
In addition to vitamins and minerals, other natural remedies are beneficial in treating acne. Astringents like witch hazel and
chamomile, for example, are effective skin cleaners, while herbs including wild indigo, black walnut, burdock and Oregon
grape are also effective.
Acne sufferers and homeopaths alike swear by acupuncture as an alternative treatment for acne. This remedy helps relieve
inflammation while purifying the liver, enhancing its ability to help the body regulate hormones. While most acne medicines
"work" by suppressing the issues which cause acne, acupuncture treats the body holistically from the inside out. Combined
with herbal medicine, the effects are even stronger. A recent article in Medical Acupuncture confirmed that this ancient
alternative medicine is not only effective, but also free of side effects. (5)

You Are What You Eat
The importance of eating well cannot be overstated when it comes to comprehensive wellness, including skin care. Although
effects vary according to the individual, some of the most commonly known acne aggravators include dairy products, fried
foods, excess sugar, additives, artificial sweeteners and colors, chocolate, nuts, saturated and partially hydrogenated fats,
processed foods, soda and alcohol. Avoiding these triggers can help prevent acne outbreaks and flare-ups.
Unfortunately, many people mistakenly think that they must choose between the harmful chemicals of prescription medicines
or accept a life vexed by acne. Vitamins, minerals and other natural remedies -- in addition to healthy dietary choices -- offer a
different and favorable solution.

SINUS INFECTION, STOMACHACHE AND SORE THROAT ALL
SUCCESSFULLY TREATED WITH HERBS

(NaturalNews) For those struggling with sinus
infections, breathing through the nose can be a
constant battle, as inflamed sinus cavities
make the face feel swollen. If a doctor is called
upon to intervene, a classic antibiotic is
prescribed. Since a typical sinus infection is
not caused by bacteria, the antibiotic is
worthless, counterproductive. In fact, according
to the Infectious Diseases Society of America,
90 percent of sinus infections are caused by
viruses, not bacteria.

To fight the sinus infection, one must thin the
mucus and treat the inflammation to
experience relief. Certain herbs work great for
this. Along with nasal drainage massage
therapy, essential oils and anti-inflammatory
herbs can get the sinus cavities functioning normally again. To provide long-term relief, one must treat the body holistically,
integrating anti-inflammatory and alkaline-forming foods, while avoiding certain mucus-forming and tissue-inflaming foods
Eight steps to treat sinus infections
The first step is to limit foods causing inflammation and mucus. Milk and meat from cows typically have this effect on the
human body, as do refined sugars.
Cleaning out the sinus cavity may require a neti pot or dropper. A pinch of cayenne pepper in water poured through the sinus
passages will penetrate the pressure. Tilt your head to the side and pour the solution through.
For more relief, bring a pan of water to a simmer. Add apple cider vinegar, garlic, peppermint and eucalyptus to the
steaming water. Lean over and breathe in the steam through the mouth and nose until the nasal passages begin to open up.
Eating peppers, onions and garlic will stimulate the sinuses to open.
Massage the temples, the forehead and the nose using nasal drainage massage techniques. Treat the head as if it is a rag
being wrung out, massaging the pressure and drainage out the nostrils.
For long-term relief, begin consuming turmeric orally by the tablespoonful to bring down inflammation in the body. Drink lots of
clean, purified water to thin out mucus.
Accompany the turmeric with other anti-inflammatory foods like ginger or pineapple. The condition may be a fungal infection.
Drink two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar mixed in water daily. Supplement daily with tea infused with a combination of
thyme, rosemary, marshmallow root and mullein.
For nighttime relief, apply eucalyptus essential oil around nasal passageways and breathe in whi le sleeping.

Four natural remedies to treat stomachache
There could be many underlying causes behind a stomachache. Antibiotic use itself often damages the friendly gut microbes
in the gastrointestinal tract. Instead of using antibiotics and throwing an over-the-counter antacid at the stomachache, consider
drinking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water. Most of the time, apple cider vinegar effectively balances the disturbance
in the gut, aiding digestion and eliminating acid reflux.
If the stomachache is related to nausea, drink water or juice infused with ginger root. Chamomile tea works great too!

If the problem is related to food poisoning, drink activated charcoal and lots of water. The activated carbon binds with the
toxins and bacteria in the gut, absorbing the impurities and removing them from the body.
For a long term-therapy, it may be wise to consider eating probiotics to replenish good gut bacteria, especially if one has taken
many antibiotics in his or her life.
Drugs and antibiotics were making her condition worse, so she decided to heal naturally using
herbs
For Eren Cervantes-Altamirano, sinus infections, stomachaches and sore throats were common in her early childhood. After
trying several anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics, she realized that her body built up resistance to the drugs as her health
problems reoccurred and worsened. After a trip to Mexico, Cervantes discovered simple steps to treat her body holistically wi th
herbs. What intrigued her most was an ancient text, the Cruz-Badiano Codex. Used 500 years ago in Aztec culture, the text
documented all the medicinal properties of various plants and herbs studied by the Aztecs.
Cervantes now credits her healing and better quality of life to simple herbal knowledge and implementation. She no longer has
chronic sinus infections and stomachaches, and she can fend off sore throat and the common cold more effectively.
For sore throat, she prepares a half cup of fresh, diced ginger with four slices of lemon. Then she boils "a litre of water and
[adds] the ginger and lemon slices." After the kettle simmers for 10 minutes, she adds raw honey to the tea. "Every time I get a
sore throat, I drink this for half a day and it works like a charm," she said.
For common cold and stuffy nose, she uses the herb chamomile. Lying on her back, she drips the infusion into her nostrils
using a dropper. The method loosens the mucus.
She advises, "The infusion will travel from your nostrils down to your throat and you need to spit it out. Do not swallow. Repeat
until you have finished the infusion. This is best done at night because it helps you to get to sleep better."

FEAST, THEN FAST: LARGE MEALS HEALTHIER FOR DIABETICS,
SAYS NEW SCIENCE

(NaturalNews) People with faster metabolisms often
fare better when eating many smaller meals
throughout the day as opposed to following the
traditional three-meal regimen. But new research
published in the journal Diabetologia suggests that
eating just two large meals a day, breakfast and
lunch, might be better for Type 2 diabetics as it may
help improve weight loss and lower blood glucose
and fasting insulin levels.
Researchers from the Diabetes Center in Prague,
Czech Republic, looked at the latest science on
diets for diabetics and found that, contrary to
popular advice, eating a higher number of smaller
meals throughout the day may not be as beneficial
as previously thought. Based on the data, patients
given larger meals just twice daily had less body fat, on average, and were much more likely to have stabilized blood sugar
levels.

"We've taken the pieces of scientific evidence and put them together," explained lead author Hana Kahleova to Medscape
Medical News. "Mostly it has been recommended for people with Type 2 diabetes to eat five or six small meals a day. But in
Western societies at least, it turns out that snacks are not healthy, they are high in sugar and fat. So a regiment of frequent
eating hasn't resulted in better control."
Larger meals better than smaller ones, even when calories are the same
In her review, Dr. Kahleova observed that caloric intake isn't so much of an issue as is how and when calories are consumed.
Interestingly, diabetics who consumed the same amount of calories spread out across multiple meals throughout the day
experienced more health problems than diabetics who consumed the same amount of calories in just the two meals, she
found.

Among the 54 patients she evaluated, all of whom were being treated with oral Type 2 diabetes drugs, 27 were instructed to
follow a restricted-calorie diet containing 500 calories less than the recommended daily amount, equaling 1,700 calories per
day, dividing between six meals. The other group consumed the same amount of calories and macronutrients, but in only two
meals. Both groups completed their assigned regimen over the course of 12 weeks, and then switched to the opposite
regimen.

Upon evaluation, those in the two-large-meal group experienced weight loss success measuring about three pounds more, on
average, compared to those in the six-small-meal group. And while both groups experienced hepatic fat loss, those in the two-
meal-group saw more of it. Other markers of Type 2 diabetes also saw more improvements in the two-large-meal group
compared to the six-small-meal group.
"[W]hen patients were eating a large breakfast and lunch but skipping dinner, they lost more weight on average and had less
hepatic fat and lower blood glucose, fasting insulin, and fasting glucagon than those who were consuming six smaller meals,"
writes Lisa Nainggolan for Medscape.com about the findings of the crossover trial. "The two regimens both contained exactly
the same number of calories per day."
When you eat may be as important as what you eat
Since glucagon levels are not easily affected by diet or even drug interventions, Dr. Kahleova was surprised to see noticeabl e
improvements simply by adjusting the timing of food consumption throughout the day. Based on these findings, she believes a
new approach to treating diabetics that addresses specific meal intervals is necessary for proper care.

"The old saying, 'Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dine like a pauper,' may indeed hold true," she says.

HIBISCUS TEA IS EXCELLENT TO MAINTAIN HEALTHY CHOLESTEROL
AND BLOOD PRESSURE LEVELS

(NaturalNews) Hibiscus is a greatly
appreciated herb that usually grows in
tropical areas around the globe. It was first
discovered in Angola but its pleasing taste
has become very popular through time
amongst the North African, Middle Eastern
and even European populations. It just also
happens to be the state flower of Hawaii.
Although natives of India like to eat its dried
leaves as if they were eating vegetables,
most people prefer to make teas out of
them and as a matter of fact, most teas
happen to include hibiscus. It's a natural
antioxidant that also has anti-cholesterol
properties, but most importantly it can
effectively lower blood pressure. Some of
its most important alkaloids are quercetin
and anthocyanins, with the latter seemingly having the most impact. Hibiscus has basically shown through many studies that it
can work wonders with the cardiovascular system by opening the arteries and slowing the release of blood vessel-constricting
hormones.

It seems to work exceptionally well with cases of either low or mild hypertension. A study from 2007 showed that by giving
participants consistent doses of 250 mg of a dried powdered hibiscus extract, blood pressure was maintained at healthy levels.
Research shows that hibiscus tea can lower blood pressure
In 2010 the Journal of Nutrition reported on a study that took place in the US with researchers aiming to find out if hibiscus had
antihypertensive properties when confronted with mild cases of high blood pressure. Sixty-five individuals between the ages of
30 and 70 volunteered to take part in the trials for a period of six weeks. When compared with the placebo, the biggest change
occurred with systolic pressure levels. Regardless of age, the hibiscus extract seemed to have a greater impact with
individuals having higher systolic levels from the start.

Some tests done in 2007 showed hibiscus has the ability to normalize cholesterol levels. Forty-two individuals were given
various doses of hibiscus extracts during a few weeks. Researchers noted that in order for cholesterol to remain at healthy
levels, the most efficient dose hovered around 1000 mg being taken three times per day.

In a study that mostly included women out of a total of 60 participants, scientists were able to compare the effects between
black tea and hibiscus tea. Although the main goal was to study blood sugar levels, after one month they realized that hibiscus
was responsible for keeping LDL, HDL and the overall cholesterol at healthy levels. While hibiscus was effective across the
board, black tea only positively influenced HDL levels.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL LEVELS EASILY MANAGED WITH THESE FIVE
NUTRITIOUS FOODS

(NaturalNews) Almost 15 percent
of American adults have high levels
of cholesterol, putting them at risk
for stroke, heart disease and other
serious health issues that can
significantly increase the risk of
mortality. (1) For many, cholesterol-
controlling drugs called statins
have become a mainstay, yet
despite the widespread use of
statins, recent studies have shown
that using them long-term may also
pose serious risks.
Turning to medication for every
ailment is a deeply entrenched
habit associated with Western
culture, but the fact is, there are
alternatives for controlling
cholesterol that don't include
medicine. These approaches rely on a few simple dietary changes that can help reduce cholesterol significantly.
What is cholesterol anyway?
Cholesterol is a waxy substance that is derived from different types of foods -- both meats and vegetables. Some cholesterol is
good for the body, playing an essential role in metabolizing some vitamins and minerals. But too much of the wrong kind of
cholesterol can build up along the sides of blood vessels, impeding blood flow and often causing clots.

There are two types of cholesterol -- so-called "bad" and "good" cholesterols. Low-density lipoproteins, or LDLs, are
considered "bad," because they can turn into artery-clogging plaque, a substance that sticks to vessel walls, blocking blood
flow and making vessels less flexible. "Good" cholesterol is found in high-density lipoproteins, also called HDL. HDL actually
acts as a scavenger, helping remove LDL from the bloodstream, so less plaque builds up.

For many people, high cholesterol levels are easily managed by just a few changes to their diet. Here are a few of the most
common foods that can help you manage cholesterol:

Beans

"Beans, beans, the magical fruit...." Turns out, they actually are pretty magical when it comes to helping lower levels of
LDL cholesterol. A recent study from Canada showed that just one 3/4-cup serving of beans, chickpeas or lentils per day could
cut LDL levels by as much as 5 percent. Beans are full of soluble fiber which helps remove LDL from the blood. All that fiber
can also help promote healthy digestion and even reduce the risk of colon cancer. Not crazy about the, ahem, side effect of
eating beans? Turns out, incorporating beans more often into your diet helps your body adjust to the increase in fiber, so the
gassy effects can also be reduced over time.

Oatmeal

Like beans, oats contain that LDL-lowering soluble fiber too. The fiber in oatmeal helps reduce the amount of "bad" cholesterol
that can absorbed into the bloodstream. Many grocery stores carry products that are made with oat bran, but you can skip the
middle man by simply eating more oatmeal. All it takes is about a cup and a half to get 6 grams of fiber. Experts recommend 5
to 10 grams per day to reduce LDL. Pump up the fiber by chopping up an apple or a banana for an additional 4 to 5 grams.

Tea

Prefer to drink to your health? Then tea is the way to go. Just three cups of green or black tea each day are all that's need to
get the maximum LDL-lowering benefits of tea, and tea also provides a significant source of antioxidants called polyphenols
that can help ward off certain cancers. (2) Tea also boosts levels of "good" HDL. Like to drink your tea iced? It makes no
difference -- the benefits are the same.

Olive oil

It's true that many of the fats we eat contain high levels of LDL cholesterol, but one fat that can actually help battle "bad"
cholesterol is olive oil. Olive oil is one of the mainstays of the "Mediterranean" diet that's been touted in the news recently for
its substantial health benefits. You only need to add about 2 tablespoons of olive oil to your diet each day in order to reap the
benefits. Mix it with herbs to make a flavorful dip for bread or use it in a dressing for fresh vegetables. Choose extra-virgin olive
oil to get the most benefits.

Fish

Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines and even tuna contain heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, proven to reduce blood
pressure. The American Heart Association recommends at least two servings of fatty fish each week to keep your heart
healthy. (3) If you can't stand the taste of fish, you can find fish oil tablets to supplement your diet, but you'll miss out on many
of the other minerals and nutrients found in fish. Another source of omega-3s: flaxseed. Grind it up first to release the healthful
benefits and sprinkle the ground seed on foods before eating.

In addition to making a few dietary changes, don't neglect those other heart-healthy steps you can take that also help lower
cholesterol, like regular aerobic exercise. Like dietary changes, exercise doesn't have to be complicated or extreme: Simply
taking regular walks can yield amazing benefits.

CHOLESTEROL: SEPARATING FACT FROM FICTION

(NaturalNews) There has been a great
deal written about cholesterol in the
media for a number of years now. With so
many acronyms and so much information
floating around, it can be difficult to keep
all the facts straight. With the
overwhelming amount of information
available, the average person might not
know how to tell what facts are important
and which can be overlooked. Read on
below for some clarification and
information that can be applied to help
ensure better health today.
Cholesterol is not a bad
word
In spite of what many of the media pieces that focus cholesterol highlight, not all cholesterol is bad for the human body. In fact,
it might surprise many people to learn that cholesterol is actually a necessary component in good health. Cholesterol, a soft
and waxy substance is often referred to its relationship with the bloodstream. This is especially true when the fact that excess
amounts of it can lead to clogging of the arteries. This can often lead to heart disease, such as strokes.
Cholesterol is necessary for good health
Not only is cholesterol found in the bloodstream, it is also present in every cell in the human body. It has a myriad of important
uses that are crucial for its continued good health. These include producing vitamin D, cell membranes and hormones.
Cholesterol also helps produce bile acids that aid in the digestion of fats. Creating memories and smooth neurological
functioning is also an important function of cholesterol in the body.
High-density lipoprotein
The liver makes up nearly all of the cholesterol that a body needs. This is about 75 percent of it. The additional cholesterol is
typically obtained by the diet, and there is where the problems often begin. Of this cholesterol, there are two types, each with
its own specific characteristics. High-density lipoprotein, also known as HDL, or 'good' cholesterol, actually helps to keep the
cholesterol out of the arteries where it can often cause problems. In addition, HDL helps to reduce cholesterol from arterial
plaque which can cause heart disease.
Low-density lipoprotein
The other type of cholesterol that is often spoken of in the media is low-density lipoprotein. Also known as LDL, or 'bad'
cholesterol, this is the type that can build up in the arteries, making them less flexible. In addition to being less flexible, the
arteries can also become much narrower, making the possibility of blood clots very dangerous, or even fatal.

Because cholesterol is actually made up of two separate components, the total cholesterol figures often obtained at the
doctor's office can be misleading. Instead, it is important to ensure that the two different cholesterol levels are at acceptable
levels. This means keeping LDL at levels under 100 mg/dl for people who have low risk while people with high risk factors
should have levels under about 70 mg/dl.
