The primar" professional organization in business communication% ABC is dedicated to
keeping its members informed of the latest de'elopments in business communication
theor" and practice( )t informs its members through two uarterl" publications: The
Journal of Business Communication (research and theor") and Business Communication
*uarterl" (practice)(
)n addition% the association holds an annual meeting as well as regional meetings through
out the world( The largest cross discipline business meetings (#+ di'isions) in the nation%
papers presented at these meetings co'er both the current theoretical and practical topics
in Business Communication(
,ecentl" the association added three international regions: -urope% (including the !iddle
-ast) Central and South America. and Asia and the /acific( 0ith representati'es from
these regions on the Board of &irectors% ABC holds regional meetings in these new
1eographical regions regularl"( This e2pansion in the organizations gi'es ABC a trul"
global perspecti'e( !oreo'er% ABC pro'ides a listser'e (BizCom) that ser'es as a
discussion network for ABC members on current research and practice in the field(
3ounded in #4+5% ABC now has 66#+ members including 764 institutions( 8f the
indi'idual memberships% most (#6+5) are academics from within the countr"% but #97 are
Business /rofessionals( Companies represented include )B!% AT:T% and -;;8<(
ABC=s di'erse membership pro'ides an effecti'e change of e2perience and knowledge(
Benefits of !embership
!embership in ABC would benefit Sprint as well as me personall"( The meetings and the
publications would enable me to bring the latest communication knowledge to m"
editorial work( ABC would be especiall" helpful in m" assignments in'ol'ing teaching
communication to our emplo"ees% for much of its emphasis is on teaching techniues(
Also membership in ABC would enhance Sprint=s image( ABC is a prestigious
organization and its members include the corporate elite( )n addition meeting with the
members of other companies would help me to do a better job of directing Sprint=s
communication acti'ities(
