Traditional Owner/Indigenous Engagement

Support Officer

SEQ Catchments Ltd (SEQC) is a community-based not for profit business with a vision to deliver a
sustainable future for our community. Working with our corporate, community and government partners,
SEQC is looking after, caring for and restoring our environment for future generations.
We are seeking to employ a Traditional Owner/Indigenous Engagement Support Officer, ideally to be based
in Ipswich. Initially, the position will be part-time; however SEQC will accept applications from candidates
who may be seeking a full-time engagement.

Position Purpose
The Traditional Owner/Indigenous Engagement Support Officer (TO/I ESO) is the primary point of contact
between the sector partners and SEQC. The TO/I ESO role is to build and maintain productive and
harmonious relationships with relevant sector stakeholders in the community with a view to developing
partnerships and projects that deliver on the targets and objectives in SEQCs Strategic Investment Program
(SIP) and Strategic Plan.

Accountability
Reports directly to the Community Engagement Manager.
Specific accountabilities and performance indicators will be set against SEQCs Strategic Plan and
SIP and annually against work plans.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Traditional Owner/Indigenous Engagement
Support Officer


Major Responsibilities

Core (duties of part time role)
Establish and manage relationships with Traditional Owner and Indigenous sector stakeholders
aimed at building partnerships and projects which deliver on the targets and objectives in the SEQC
SIP and Strategic Plan.
Increase Indigenous and Traditional Owner stakeholder engagement in and understanding of
sustainable natural resource management.
Facilitate the dissemination of Natural Resource Management information to the TO/Indigenous
sector.
Provide performance reporting to stakeholders and funding agencies.
Work with SEQC on other projects and activities as required.
Represent SEQC on Committees and at meetings as required.
Assist SEQC officers in applying the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003.
Do whatever is reasonably practical to ensure that both the workplace and the work itself are safe, in
consultation with staff affected and the Workplace Health, Safety and Sustainability Committee.

Additional (duties pertain to a possible full time role)

Manage and/or coordinate implementation of NRM projects and associated meetings, activities and
workshops. Projects may be funded from a variety of sources including corporates, and government
programs and will require liaison with a variety of funders.
Actively seek opportunities for indigenous and TO sector NRM project development and work with
SEQC to obtain project funding and resources.

Key Selection Criteria
A formal qualification in Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Anthropology or Social Science
or relevant experience.
Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous society and culture and an understanding of the issues
affecting Indigenous communities, particularly in south east Queensland.
Knowledge and experience of Landcare, sustainable agriculture and natural resource management
issues relevant to the region.
Experience in working with a wide range of government and non-government organisations and
communities.
Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities to
achieve agreed targets and outcomes in a timely manner.

Sound administrative abilities, including report-writing, analysis and working with computers and
databases.
Current drivers licence

Attendance at meetings outside of normal work hours may be required.
Travel throughout south east Queensland and limited over-night or inter-regional travel may be
required.
The successful candidate will be employed under the Companys standard employment agreement
or as negotiated.
The position is part time, requiring a two day per week commitment; however, full time work may be
available for an outstanding applicant.
The position is based at Ipswich although negotiation re location within SEQ is possible for the right
applicant.
A competitive remuneration package in the range of $55,000 - $70,000 (full time equivalent) will be
negotiated with the successful candidate.
