Preparation
FirmwareInstallation
We will not describe in this place how to install DD-WRT on your router as there are quite different
procedures for different routers. We assume that DD-WRT is already installed on your router. For
instructions how to install DD-WRT on your router see http://www.ddwrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation, for
firmware downloadsandforsupportedmodelssee http://www.ddwrt.com/site/support/routerdatabase.

The procedure also assumes that you have already created a Chillifire account through our website
www.chillifire.net

ConfigurationofDDWRTtoworkwithChillifire
Step1Resetthehotspottofactorysettings
Before doing anything else, go to Administration-> Factory Defaults and restore the factory defaults. We
cannot guarantee this guide will work with anything other than the factory defaults. If you want to make
further changes later, that is fine. First establish the basic set up though, so you can test which alternative
settings will work with this set up and which wont.

Step2LoadtheChillifireconfiguration
Next we need to load the configuration file you downloaded from the support site in the preparation. Go to
Administration->Backup, select the nvrambak.bin file you downloaded from your computer and press the
Restore button. The computer will load the configuration settings and reboot.
Important: When the hotspot asks for user and password, these have been set to
user root and
password shae-4
(without the quotation marks). Please enter the new username and password to gain access to the router.
You can change the username and password later, if you wish.

Step2RegisteryourrouterwithChillifire
First go to Services->Hotspot and look up the Radius NAS ID of the chillispot configuration. Record this
NAS ID as we need it for the next step.
The Radius NAS ID field MUST be set, otherwise the connection to Chillifire will not work
properly. If the field is blank, please go to the Troubleshooting section.

Please open http://login04.chillifire.net/admin/router/list
(or http://login02.chillifire.net/admin/router/list if you are situated in Australia or New Zealand). You will
see a screen like this with all your routers listed.
Press the Insert button to register a new router.

Paste the identical Radius NAS ID which you recorded on the DD-WRT chillispot configuration
page into the Mac Address field of the Chillifire screen.
This is what creates the link
between your router and
Chillifire. Without it we have no
way of telling this is your
router.
Please make sure you do not enter
any leading or trailing spaces.

Step3SetRouterLocaltime
NowyougotoSetUp>BasicSetup,scrolltothebottomofthepage,andselectyourtimezoneandsummertime,if
applicable.Save and apply your settings.

Step4Reboot
Last but not least reboot the router by going to Administration->Management, scroll to the bootm and
press Reboot Router.
Once the reboot is completed you will have a fine Chillifre Hotspot. You can now go to the control panel on
http://login04.chillifire.net/admin or http://login02.chillifire.net/admin (use the latter if you are located in
Australia or New Zealand) and configure your hotspot to your hearts content.

AdditionalConfigurationoptions
AlternativeHomepage:

If you want to enable a custom splash screen rather than the Chillifire login screen you can enter the
command
uamhomepage http://www.yourdomain.com/yourpage.htm
into the Additional Chillispot Options field in on the Servcies->Hotspot page, in addition to the directives
already entered there (do not delete the ones already there).
You must make sure that there is a clearly marked link from that custom page
http://www.yourdomain.com/yourpage.htm in the exampleabovethatpointstohttp://192.168.182.1:3990/prelogin.

WalledGarden

If you wish to permit a walled garden you can enter ADDITIONAL domain names, web pages or IP
addresses into the UAM Allowed field. The hotspot user will be able to see those pages without being
logged in. This is useful if you want the hotspot user to be able access say your own page or site without
being logged on.
Enter the URLs you wish to add into the field Uam Allowed on the Servcies->Hotspot page separated by
commas and with no space between them.
Do NOT delete any of the URLs already entered there or the hotspot will stop functioning.

Troubleshooting
RouterdoesnotfinishrebootingandhangsafterloadingtheDDWRTfirmware
You may have loaded the incorrect firmware version or have a conflict with previous settings. Please
consult the www.ddwrt.com forum for help.
Routerdoesnotfinishrebootingandhangsafterloadingtheconfigurationfile
Reload the firmware via tftp (see www.ddwrt.com for help) and once reloaded, make sure to reset to
factory settings. These issues usually occur only when there is a conflict of the settings with setting s of
previous firmwares r old settings. Please note that loading a different firmware or loading a version alone
does NOT necessarily get rid of old firmware settings. Only resetting to factory settings does.
NoautomaticsettingoftheRadiusNASID
If you find no entry in the Radius NAS ID field, you can supply the entry manually.
First check the MAC Address of your Router in the DD-WRT Status->SysInfo screen.

Record the MAC address and enter it manually into the Radius NAS ID. Make sure that the manually
recorded and entered Radius NAS ID is the used to register your router in the Chillifre control panel (Step
2 of the main configuration procedure above).
If you then find that you lose the manually supplied Radius NAS ID after every reboot please go to
Administration->Commands within your DD-WRT router and delete the Startup script.
Delete the script by pressing Edit under the Startup script section, and delete the content of the
texteditor, which will pop up.
Press Save Startup at the bottom of the page.

Devicescannotconnectwirelesslytothehotspot
This is most likely the case if the wrong DHCP interface has been selected. On preSP2 of DD-WRT the
wireless interface is either eth1 or ath1 or wl0 or similar. On older version the wireless interface is WLAN,
please select as appropriate. If you are not sure, it may take some trial and error. In essence the chillispot
daemon will not start, if the incorrect interface is not selected.
In particular we found that the LAN setting s as documented on the ddwrt website does not work with the
version preSP2 Build 13064 recommended by DD-WRT. It does not enable wireless connections to the
hotspot.
In principle we cannot give support here for different network and vlan configurations you may wish to try
with your router, to maybe cover some or all LAN ports as well (that is if your router has LAN ports). We
cannot provide support for this, but recommend www.ddwrt.com forum for help.
We will note though ,that the most common failure is the presence of a DHCP server on the vlan or LAN.
Chillispot acts effectively as a DHCP server to hotspot clients, and any additional DHCP server will stop the
hotspot from working properly.
Another common mistake is with advanced firewall settings. If the chillispot daemon does not have access
to a DNS server, it will fail to start. Hotspot clients can then not connect.
SlowresponsetimewhenlocatedinAustralasia
You may be better off connecting to our New Zealand based server to do so set the
Redirect Url field to https://login02.chillifire.net/hotspotaccess.php; the
Primary radius server to radius02.chillifire.net; and the
Secondary one to radius04.chillifire.net
Press the Apply Settings button.
