Please read through the DirectX section of this document. This section has information that is .ital to
successfull running Batman: Arkham City on our sstem.

1.1 Dire%t&
This game is o%timised for Microsoft2s DirectX 3.4c. "n order for ou to %la the game5 ou mst ha'e
DirectX 3.4c com%liant dri.ers for our .ideo card and sound card. Please note that although DirectX
3.4c is installed with the game5 our .ideo and sound card dri.ers will not be u%graded to DirectX 3.4c
dri.ers.
You will need to obtain the latest DirectX 9.0c drivers from the manufacturer or PC supplier. These drivers
cannot be supplied by Warner ros.
1.( Memory an" Performan%e
6hile the game will run well in 27/ of '0M our %laing e8%erience will be smoother if ou ha.e more
memor.
'egardless of how much memor ou ha.e5 ou can ma8imi9e our a.ailable memor and increase the
o.erall %erformance of the game engine b doing the following:
? )losing an o%en windows
? Shutting down all other %rograms :including those that run in the menu$bar;
? Defragmenting our hard dri.e
? Shutting down the 6indows Sidebar :6indows &ista;
6arner /ros recommends that ou ha.e no other %rograms running at all while %laing Batman: Arkham
City. (ther %rograms5 including sstem utilities and screen sa.ers can cause sstem degradation when
%laing games and ma conflict with the game for sstem resources5 %otentiall resulting in instabilit and
crashes.

with earlier .ersions of their dri.ers that affect the %erformance and stabilit of Batman: Arkham
City.

Pre-aring Yor 3ar" Dri'e
To ensure that our installation is trouble free5 ou should chec+ to see that our hard dri.e and file
sstem are both tuned for o%timum %erformance. 6indows comes with a utilit %rograms that will hel%
o%timise our hard dri.e %erformance.
You can o%timise our hard dri.e2s %erformance b running a %rogram called Disk Defragmenter. You
can run Dis+ Defragmenter b clic+ing on the !tart button from the 6indows des+to%5 followed b All
Programs5 then A%%essories5 then !ystem Tools5 and finall Disk Defragmenter.
(.( DVD,R/M Pro4lems
Batman: Arkham City reBuires at least a Guad$S%eed D&D$'(M dri.e with !2>I-$bit Windows
dri.ers.
* re%ei'e a 5666666.666 not fon"5 error message $hen installing or rnning Batman: Arkham
City.
This error message is usuall the result of our com%uter using MS$D(S :1I bit; dri.ers instead of
6indows :!2>I- bit; dri.ers for our D&D$'(M dri.e. You can easil chec+ to see if this is causing
%roblems b o%ening the Control Panel.
"n the )ontrol Panel window5 double$clic+ on the !ystem icon then clic+ on the Performan%e tab. You
should now see a summar of the %erformance status of our com%uter. (ne of the lines should sa J!ile
"ystem# $%&'()bit* and the last line should sa +Your system is confi,ured for optimal performance.+ "f ou
see a message saing +Drive X is usin, -")D." compatibility mode/+ then ou will need to contact our
sstem .endor to obtain and install !2>I-$bit dri.ers for our D&D$'(M dri.e.
(.) Crashes an" 7o%k,2-s
8hen * start Batman: Arkham City my mose %rsor "isa--ears an" my %om-ter lo%ks,-.
"t is li+el that our installed audio card dri.ers are not com%atible with DirectX. The onl solution is to get
a DirectX 3.4c $com%atible dri.er from our audio card manufacturer.
8hen * start Batman: Arkham City * re%ei'e the follo$ing error message:
+The application /atman0).e8e referenced memory at address 0000#0000 that can1t be read from.+
"t2s li+el that our installed .ideo card dri.ers are not com%atible with DirectX 3.4c. The onl solution is to
get a DirectX 3.4c $com%atible dri.er from our .ideo card manufacturer.
The *nstaller kee-s sto--ing $hen a %ertain -er%entage is %om-lete.
There a few li+el causes:
? You ma ha.e run out of free s%ace on our hard dri.e. Please remo.e unwanted %rograms to
free u% additional s%ace for the game5 and then reinstall Batman: Arkham City.
? There ma be dirt or finger%rints on the D&D$'(M disc itself. <8amine the bottom of the discK if
ou see an finger%rints or dirt5 carefull clean the disc using a clean5 soft5 lint$free cloth b wi%ing
from the centre of the disc :near the hole; towards the outer edge in a straight line.
Batman: Arkham City is %rashing to the "eskto- $ith no error messages.
This %roblem can be caused b se.eral different things. Aere2s a list of the most common cul%rits
associated with these crashes:
? Ma+e sure the D&D$'(M is clean :chec+ for both scratches and smudges on the reading surface
of the D&D;.
? Ma+e sure the game has been installed %ro%erl.
? Ma+e sure DirectX 3.4c has been installed %ro%erl.
? Ma+e sure ou ha.e the latest dri.ers for our .ideo card and that the are DirectX 3.4c
$com%atible.
? Ma+e sure ou ha.e the latest dri.ers for our sound card and that the are DirectX 3.4c
$com%atible.
? Ma+e sure Virtal Memory is enabled on our sstem.
? 'un Disk Defragmenter.
? Tr e8iting the game5 rebooting our machine5 and re$entering the game.
Note: 2f your system crashes to the des3top while playin, Batman: Arkham City you should
probably reboot your computer before startin, a new play session. .therwise/ DirectX
may be in a loc3ed state/ and the ,ame will be unable to use your sound or video
hardware.
