Spectator. She is also a presenter on The Culture Show (BBC2), BBC Proms and the BBC

EMYLIA HALL was born in 1978 and grew up in the Devon countryside, the daughter of an English
artist and a Hungarian quilt-maker. After studying English & Related Literature at the universities
of York and Lausanne, she spent five years working in a London ad agency, before moving to the
French Alps. It was there that she began to write. Emylia now lives in Bristol with her husband, the
comic-book writer and children`s author, Robin Etherington. Her first novel, The Book of Summers,
was inspired by childhood holidays in rural Hungary, and was a Richard & Judy book club winner in
2012.

1960s, 70s and 80s, most of which was spent at Great
Ormond Street Childrens Hospital.

Susan Macqueen was twelve years old when she
accompanied her mum to see her friend Mrs Fairweather,
the matron at the local nursing home and from that day on
she knew she wanted to be a nurse.

A few years later, despite being told that her grades
werent good enough and having left school with only two
OLevels, Susan was accepted on the three-year nurses
training course at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge.

It wasnt long before Susan knew she wanted to work with
children and set sights on a job at Great Ormond Street. 35
years later, on her third attempt, Susan has finally retired
from that iconic hospital and is enjoying a more leisurely
pace of life.

Hope, despair, laughter and tears, Susan's incredible stories
of what she was faced with on an everyday basis will move

JENNIFER WORTH trained as a nurse at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, and was later ward
sister at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital in London, then the Marie Curie Hospital, also in
London. Music had always been her passion, and in 1973 she left nursing in order to study music
intensively, teaching piano and singing for about 25 years. Jennifer died in May 2011 after a short
illness, leaving her husband Philip, two daughters and three grandchildren. Her books have all
been bestsellers.
