Similarities
Under Section 106 of U.S Copyright law which is the Exclusive rights in copyrighted works, the owner
of copyright has the exclusive rights to reproduce his work, to make use of his work for profit and non-
profit purposes and to display his works through public performance. This is the same with Section 177
which is the Copyright or Economic Rights.
Another similarity is the subject matter of copyright in general. The categories are literary works,
musical works, dramatic works, pictorial, graphic works, audiovisual works, sound recordings and
architectural works.

Differences
Under the U.S. Copyright law, few of the designs/work protected is not cover in Copyright Law in the
Philippines. The works are (a) vessel, (b) hull, (c) plug (d) mold and (e) deck. Vessel is a craft for
travelling on water. Hull is exterior frame or body of a vessel, plug is a model used to make a
duplication of the vessel. Mold is form in which a substance for material is used and deck is the
horizontal surface of a vessel. These works are not part of the protected works in Copyright Law in the

The duration of copyright in U.S. if work is created on or after January 1, 1978 endures a term during
the life of the author and 70 years after the authors death. In terms of joint works, the term is during
the life of last surviving author and 70 years after such last surviving authors death. For anonymous or
pseudonymous works they have a term of 95 years from the year of the publication and 120 years
from the year of its creation. Comparing in the Philippines, authors copyright lasts only 50 years after
his death same with the joint works. For anonymous and pseudonymous this has 50 years after

In U.S. Copyright Law they have a specific protection for Semiconductor Chip Products. In the definition,
a semiconductor chip product is a form of any product having two or more layers of metallic, insulating,
or semiconductor material, deposited or otherwise placed on, or etched away or otherwise removed
from, a piece of semiconductor material in accordance with a predetermined pattern; and intended to

Comparing the U.S. Copyright Law and Copyright Law in the Philippines both has its own advantages
