5 major ideas that Christians are expected to follow are:
1. Make a commitment to follow Jesus and have faith in him. 2. Know the Bible and follow its teachings. 3. Care for others. 4. Care for the environment. 5. Be concerned about the effects of war and violence. This is how Christianity was started: A group of Jews began following the teachings of a new leader named Jesus Christ. There was a successful Greek-speaking Jew named Paul of Tarsus or Saint Paul. As a young man, he helped persecute Christians. Paul spent the rest of his days thinking and writing about Christianity and winning new converts to the faith. Christianity was started about two thousand years ago. About two billion Christians are there in the world. Most of them live in Europe, North America, South America, Russia, Australia, southern Africa and some parts of Asia, about 80% of Canada are Christians. Christianity has a sacred book called the Bible. It was written about 100-150 years after Christ died. The truth of who wrote the Bible is that many people said their ideas. A number of people worked on it over hundreds of years to write the bible. The main symbol of Christianity is the Cross of Crucifix. The Crucifix is what Jesus died on. It is also known as the cross. Christianity has over 200 denominations/sects. The main ones are Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestant. Christianity has its own calendar. It is the Christian calendar which we use here. They have two solar calendars: The Julian (eastern) or the Gregorian (Western). Julius Caesar instituted the Julian calendar in 46 BCE. The title of the person allowed to lead any group is called a Priest. Women are not allowed to be leaders. To be a Priest, a person must be well respected in their community and must not have done any sins. They must also have done many years of university study. The major holidays in Christianity are: Christmas- the supposed birthday of Jesus. Easter- the supposed death day of Jesus Good Friday- the day Jesus supposedly came back to life. Christians have sent out missionaries to change others of their faith to Christians, especially Aboriginals. They would send them to Christian schools and convert their religions and many other religions as well. Christians also killed tons of Hindus plus many other people. Christianity, about human relationships to the rest of the natural world is their main ideas- care for the environment.
