LASER SCANNING | METROLOGY | SURVEY

3D Spatial was an early adopter of Terrestrial Laser scanning technologies and has been at the forefront
of providing customised and unique laser scanning solutions for over five years.
3D Spatial has successfully carried out many laser scanning projects for large scale as-built brownfield
surveys for the survey and documentation of Process, Power and Piping facilities as well as the mining
and raw materials management environments.
Our team of terrestrial laser scanning professionals provide expert consultation for any As-Built Survey
with the necessary level of survey control being implemented to ensure the highest accuracies are
maintained throughout the survey environment. modelling requirement.
Our team of 3D CAD modellers are highly trained to perform the most complex as-built modelling and
documentation projects and are fluent in a wide range of design platforms including AutoCAD, Bentley
Microstation and many Mechanical CAD packages such as Inventor and Solidworks and Unigraphics NX.
With 3D laser scanning, 3D Spatial has developed a safer, faster and more accurate alternative to tradi-
tional surveys within the mining and industrial environments.
Typical applications of 3D Spatials terrestrial laser scanning capabilities include:
Large scale as-built laser scanning of brown-field sites
High definition surveys for structural clearance and clash detection
Full as-built pipe work modelling with advanced export capability
Stability monitoring, Change detection and deformation modelling
Fast and safe stockpile surveys, with volumetric accuracies of approximately 1%.
Remote and detailed modelling of underground stopes.
Pre and post blast profiles to determine blast efficiencies.
Specialised internal stockpile surveys and Silo storage analysis

3D Spatial offer a wide range of industrial metrology solutions allowing precise 3D measurements with
accuracies as high as +/- 0.02mm and operating volumes of over 100m. 3D Spatial operates a range of
specialised portable industrial metrology hardware and software including Laser Trackers, Total Stations,
Triple-Plane-Laser Alignment Systems, Portable Co-ordinate measuring arms and Close range Laser
Scanners in order to offer an unprecedented level of precision to our clients.
Common examples of Industrial Metrology Surveys are:
Rolling Mill and Conveyer Alignments
Aerospace and Automotive tooling and part verification
Robot Cell programming and calibration
Marine structure fabrication and assembly
Turbomachinery shaft alignments and split face analysis
Calibration of Machining centres and large lathe beds
Static and Dynamic Deformation analysis
CAD to Part dimensional Inspection
With the added capability of Close Range Laser Scanning facilities, 3D Spatial brings a new range of La-
ser measurement systems with the capture of millions of discrete measurements in a short period of
time to provide comprehensive dimensional analysis and reporting to meet the most demanding 3D
measurement tasks.
Flatness, Roundness, Squareness, Straightness, Concentricity, Parallelism, Circularity and Cylindricity
are just some of the commonly performed geometric checks performed by our team of industrial metrol-
ogy specialists.
Improvements in machine wear, reduced shutdown times and rapid mobilisation are just a few of the
numerous benefits of 3D Spatial industrial measurement services.

Dimensional Inspection is a specialised subset of our
Industrial metrology services and used throughout the
manufacturing industry as a tool for the verification of
fixtures and tooling as well as a quality control tool for
inspection and dimensional conformance of production
parts.
The 3D measurement data from our 3D scanners and
Portable co-ordinate measuring machines provide com-
prehensive definitions of a physical object and allow for
the visualisation and analysis of the finest details such
as warpage and manufacturing defects giving our cli-
ents the utmost confidence that a part meets and ex-
ceeds specifications.
Typical examples of dimensional inspection include:
CAD to Part Analysis
Fixture Calibration
Tool wear analysis
Colour deviation Maps
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
First article inspection and conformance reports
Statistical Process reports
Thanks to our large portfolio of hardware and software
solutions offering both contact (probing) and non-
contact (scanning) measurement capabilities, 3D Spa-
tial has the capability to tailor our dimensional inspec-
tions to meet a clients specific requirements. Over the
years we have conducted hundreds of dimensional in-
spection projects ranging in size from microns to many
metres throughout a large cross section of industries
around the world.

Reverse Engineering is the process of measuring a
part or object and creating and CAD model of that
part that accurately reflects how it was to be de-
signed originally (Design Intent) and is scalable
across our various disciplines from the smallest Aero-
space components to the largest Plant and everything
in between.
For each unique project, our engineers select the best
technologies to utilise for a project and work closely
with the client to ensure a successful outcome that
exceeds expectations.
In addition to our comprehensive hardware portfolio,
powerful software also plays an integral part of each
dimensional inspection and reverse engineering pro-
cess. 3D Spatial has implemented advanced software
processing tools such as Polyworks, Rapidform
and Pointools amongst others for the capture and
development of as-built CAD data suitable for use
with most CAD platforms.
3D Spatial team of design engineers have extensive
experience in a diverse range of applications and dis-
ciplines including:
Automotive and Aerospace components
Legacy part repair and re-manufacturing
Documentation and archiving
Casting redesign and optimisation
Turbomachinery and Power Generation
Architecture and BIM applications
As-built industrial plant modelling
Marine design
Toolmaking and Mould design
Consumer product design
Medical devices and custom fit products
