TITLE: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE WHEAT RIDGE CODE OF
LAWS CONCERNING THE KEEPING OF DWARF GOATS
WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge City Council has authority under Article XX of the
Colorado Constitution, the Citys Home Rule Charter and CRS !1"2!"101# et se$ to
enact ordinances for %reser&ation and %romotion of the %u'lic health, safety and
(elfare# and
WHEREAS, in the e)ercise of this authority, the Council has %re&iously ado%ted
Sections 2*"*0+ and 2*"*0* of the Wheat Ridge Code of ,a(s, concerning large and
small animals and %oultry# and
WHEREAS, the -lanning Commission has re&ie(ed and fa&ora'ly
recommended amendments to the Code of ,a(s concerning d(arf goats# and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds the %ro%osed amendments are a%%ro%riate
and further the %u'lic health, safety and (elfare
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO:

-ri&ate sta'les for the .ee%ing of large animals such as horses, co(s, llamas,
shee%, goats and similar animals shall meet the follo(ing re$uirements /his
section shall not a%%ly to conforming lots in the A"1 or A"2 districts0
A 1inimum o%en lot area shall 'e nine thousand 23,0004 s$uare feet for the first
horse e$ui&alent unit and an additional si) thousand 2*,0004 s$uare feet for
each additional horse e$ui&alent unit 5or the %ur%oses of this section, 6o%en
lot area6 means a %ortion of lot e)cluding area co&ered 'y a main structure
and attached car%orts or %atios, and e)cluding detached garages /here shall
'e no more than four 244 horse e$ui&alent units %er acre e)ce%t that offs%ring
of animals on the %ro%erty may 'e .e%t until (eaned 7ne 214 horse
e$ui&alent e$uals one 214 horse, one 214 co(, t(o 224 llamas, t(o 224 'urros,

: Any .ee%ing of animals made nonconforming 'y the %assage of 7rdinance
<o 11*+, Series of 1333, 7R 75 7R98<A<C= >>>>>, S=R8=S 2014 shall
constitute a legal nonconforming .ee%ing of animals /he legal,
nonconforming .ee%ing of such animals may 'e continued so long as such
.ee%ing of animals remains other(ise la(ful# e)ce%t (here such .ee%ing of
animals is discontinued for a %eriod of si)ty 2*04 consecuti&e days or more,
then said .ee%ing of animals must conform to the %ro&isions hereof or must
cease ?%on sale of a %ro%erty, the minimum re$uirements of section 2*"*0+
shall 'e met or the .ee%ing of animals must cease 5or the %ur%oses of this
su'section :, %eriodic remo&al for the %ur%oses of %asturing shall not
constitute discontinuance of use

shall not e)ceed four hundred 24004 s$uare feet of ground floor area nor
t(el&e 2124 feet in height
C. Hutches for small animals shall not e)ceed one hundred 21004 s$uare feet of
ground floor area (ith a ma)imum of t(o 224 floors or le&els
D. 1a)imum ground floor areas for small animals or %oultry set forth a'o&e may
'e increased 'y fifty 2+04 %ercent for each acre in addition to the minimum lot
siDe for the Done district
E. All houses, coo%s, hutches or %ortions of /H=S= A<9 7/H=R structures
housing 7R -R7A898<: SH=,/=R 57R S1A,, animals shall 'e located
other than in a front yard, shall 'e set 'ac. at least fifteen 21+4 feet from side
and rear %ro%erty lines, and shall 'e no closer than thirty 2!04 feet from a
residence or other main structure on an ad@acent %ro%erty
F. /he accumulation of animal (aste to the e)tent that such 'ecomes a
nuisance to surrounding %ro%erties is %rohi'ited, as regulated 'y cha%ter 1+
of this Code of ,a(s
G. /he legal, nonconforming .ee%ing of such animals may 'e continued so long
as such .ee%ing of animals remains other(ise la(ful# e)ce%t (here such
.ee%ing of animals is discontinued for a %eriod of si)ty 2*04 consecuti&e days
