Womens Rights to be Presented from Global perspective to Elon Students
Kavita Ramdas Expresses her Opinions on These Issues

Last night Elon University hosted Kavita Ramdas to talk about pressing womens
rights issues taking place around the world.

With Ramdas being a senior advisor for the Global Fund for Women she was able
to give the audience an insight in to womens rights all over the world. She discussed
issues in Barcelona, India, and others.

This allowed students to grab an understanding for global issues and in what ways
Ramdas thinks they should be addressed. She explained how women around the world
are advocating for equality.

She had three major points of emphasis. First, we as a global community are at a
moment in history where we need to view the world as a whole, not just look at the
military, climate change or political issues. Secondly, education offers us the only real
hope to overcome these challenges what is needed is education that is imaginative and
inclusive of all the inequalities in the world including gender. Lastly, there must be risks
taken in education, it must be education of a different kind, promoting change and
making sure we are thinking in different ways not just the ways in which we were raised.

Ramdas ended her talk with an appeal; to each person it is time we make
differences in our own lives. She argued that whether its volunteering, or giving money
to certain organizations for things people value, or making conscious decisions about
which businesses to support, the efforts that people do as individuals may also have an
impact more globally. Ramdas ended her talk by quoting Gandhi be the change that you
want to see in the world. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kavita-n-ramdas/social-
