Are there assistive technology services (more specific evaluation of need for assistive technology, adapting or modifying the assistive technology, technical assistance on its operation or use, or training of student, staff, or family) that this student needs? If yes, describe what will be provided, the initiation and duration.
Teachers will need to be trained on all of the assistive technology devices and software that are provided to Bethany at the beginning of every semester. Teachers will be responsible for the appropriate use and implementation of the assistive technology devices during class time. The area technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all assistive technology devices provided to Bethany. Bethanys case manager will regularly inquire about the use and effectiveness of the assistive technologies.

Assistive Technology Evaluation
Bethany believes that the Alpha Smart helps her take notes. Her handwriting is illegible and being able to use a word processor dramatically increases her ability to utilize the lecture notes for each class. She stated in the IEP from last semester that she does not like the accompanying bag and would like a cover the Alpha Smart. This semester she has a cover made by a family member. Bethany began to use the Dragon Naturally Speak in January. She has struggled with software so far. Her complaints about Dragon Naturally Speak are that it does not easily pick up her voice and the software does not always type her words as she speaks them. She is encouraged at school and home to continue working with the Dragon Naturally Speak.
Bethanys case manager inquires about her use of the Alpha Smart processor in class. It is reported that Bethany utilizes the Alpha Smart word processor at least 80% of the time in her content classes. From observing her demeanor this semester, Bethany seems to be grateful for the opportunity to use the Alpha Smart word processor. Her parents report that she continues to try to work with the Dragon Naturally Speak program, but she gets frustrated when the software does not work exactly how it should. Her case manager has mentioned the possibility of more training next semester, if she continues to struggle with Dragon Naturally Speak.
Bethanys writing organization has definitely improved through the use of her assistive technologies. Her essays are organized and contain relevant content. Bethanys science teacher stated that the Alpha Smart helps her write more comprehensive lab reports. Because of the implementation of assistive technologies and her hard work, Bethany is passing all of her classes this semester.
