INTRODUCTION

This program is three- fold: students building relationships with students, students
building relationships with teachers, and teachers building relationships with students.
Our focus during the summer is to enrich students reading and math skills. In addition,
we want to help students feel safe, comfortable, and knowledgeable about science,
technology, math and engineering skills. We will work to capitalize on the strengths and
nurture the weaknesses of the rising second, third, fourth and fifth grade students. It is
our responsibility to model core values and develop relationships with students and one
another during the summer camp experience.

We are to believe in the students because they are our future. Our motto for the summer
is Growing Strong STEMS and Strong readers. We have been charged the task to help
our students build strong relationships while creating learning experiences in reading,
science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is in our hands to provide a
world-class education that motivates students to achieve high academic standards, enjoy
learning and develop as ethical, literate, well-rounded and self-sufficient citizens that
contribute actively to their communities.

Grading

Remember it is summer time and students need to be engaged in exciting learning.
Formal and informal assessment needs to take place. Each week student work needs to
be posted (in classrooms, hallways, and/or electronically). Students feel valued when
their work is posted and the student work will naturally decorate the room for the
duration of the program. Use the following achievement levels when providing feedback:

Level 5 - Superior Command
Level 4 - Solid Command
Level 3 - Sufficient Command
Level 2 - Partial Command
Level 1 - Limited Command

Professional Development

As we learn our students we will adjust our instruction to fit their needs. Meeting as a
team will allow us to share ideas, concerns and suggestions to make our program more
effective. Professional development provides an opportunity for each teacher to grow in
different areas and learn new instructional strategies. If you have items you want to
bring and discuss as a team submit on Tuesday morning via email. When the buses
leave, report to the Media Center unless given other instructions.

Discipline

Students are to remain in class at all times. Students are not permitted to stand outside
of the classroom door. Create a space in the classroom for students to reflect. Provide a
reflection sheet for the area.
