AIR FILTRATION

SYSTEM SOLUTIONS
VENTURI WETSCRUBBER
Keller Lufttechnik designs, engineers, manufactures, and installs
air purification systems for nearly all types of industry. Optimum
separation processes and custom-engineered systems ensure
maximum work safety, clean breathable air, as well as
operational safety and environmental protection on the very
highest levels.
Airborne substances differ in their quality and quantity as well as
in their physical and chemical nature. This results in different
demands or ways on how these substances are to be
separated from the airflow. To meet these demands, Keller
Lufttechnik offers a number of dry and wet operating system
models.
The venturi wet scrubber models are geared toward the
separation of substances that cannot normally be separated or
are difficult to separate in dry operating systems. Our
high-performance separators inject water into the airflow as the
basic concept of the venturi principle. These multipurpose units
can be utilized in almost all sectors of industry.
SEPARATION TECHNOLOGY
APPLICATIONS
Grinding, polishing or other machining processes where
glowing or hot dust particles may occur.
Combustible and explosive dust resulting from abrasive
blasting, grinding and polishing of light metal components
(aluminum and magnesium alloys).
Diemaking/diecutting or other processes where dust and
cooling lubricant vapors or mist are released.
Moist and/or adhesive dust created in foundries and
during the manufacture of ceramics or glass.
Vapors containing dust from driers, coolants, and
extruders in the chemical and plastics industry.
Press vapors released in the production of wood
chipboards and fibreboards.
Compact wet scrubber, model VDN-TE, with a combination of
waste disposal equipment "T" and "E". The sludge can be
discharged via a shutoff valve, located between hopper and
waste bin, without having to shut down the extraction system.
Two wet scrubbers, model VDN-TA, in sound-absorbing design with common de-sludger:
separation of aluminum and magnesium dusts.
2
The venturi wet scrubber compact series includes three models
(VDN-E, VDN-T, VDN-AS). They are available in different sizes
and have different types of waste disposal equipment. Airflow
rates range from 2,500 m
3
/hr up to 28,000 m
3
/hr.
Keller Lufttechnik offers compact separators in a "Z" design,
handling particularly combustible and explosive dust, such as
aluminum or magnesium alloys. The "Z" model features the
following additional safety equipment:
MODELS
A capturing system picks up the air pollutants at the source and
carries them via a ductwork system to the crude gas inlet of the
separator where the spraying zone is located. At the narrowest
point, water is injected into the airflow. When entering the
airflow, the water is atomized by high acceleration, creating a
homogenous water-air mix that moistens the dust particles.
Intensive rotation in the subsequent separator housing
separates the water drops from the airflow, using the cyclone
principle. Before entering the fan, the cleaned air is rectified by
a turbulence eliminator. From there it is blown through a
discharge outlet into the recirculation piping system, or is
directly ducted to the outdoors.
The separated dust settles and is discharged via the disposal
equipment.
Model series VDN-E
The separated dust which is suspended in the water settles as
sludge and is collected in the detachable disposal bin which is
installed underneath the scrubber unit. The bin must be emptied
from time to time during system down-times. This disposal
mode is suitable for a low ratio of dust consisting of particles
which sediment well.
Model series VDN-T
The water holding tank of the VDN-T series is funnel-shaped.
The separated dust collects in the hopper top which can be
emptied or drained either manually by means of a manual gate
valve, or automatically by a separately controlled drain valve.
This system is suitable for handling low ratios of dust, and
water-soluble, or emulsifying substances.
Model series VDN-AS
This unit is equipped with an automatic de-sludging device. A
scraper conveyor discharges the sedimented dust as sludge
continuously or in intervals. This disposal mode is suitable for
systems with a high output of dust and continuous operation
(2-3 shifts).
TECHNICALDESCRIPTION
Spark-proof fan impeller / housing combination.
Electronic flow monitoring.
Water level safety device.
Electrical control system.
3
Our venturi wet scrubbers can separate the majority of known
industrial dust types without any auxiliary materials. In some
cases, however, additives are required.
For instance, wetting agents provide a quick and efficient
wetting of the particles, thereby speeding up the entire
separation process.
Because some types of dust have a strong tendency to form
foam, defoaming agents dissolve heavy foam build-up.
Sedimentation agents utilized to clarify slurries help the
coagulation of separated fine dust. To bolster the efficiency
of the sedimentation agent, it may be necessary to add a
hardening compound, such as calcium chloride.
Corrosion inhibitors are required for the separation of metal or
scale dust to prevent rust build-up in the system. If the crude
gas flow contains acidifiers, such as sulphur dioxide,
neutralizing agents must be added.
Dosing equipment for liquid or powdery additives is strongly
recommended to avoid any damage caused by corrosion.
Model series VDN-TA
This model is designed for larger airflow rates. The modular
construction, i.e. venturi nozzle, mist separator, and fan of this
system exist in different locations, allowing the system to be
adjusted to any large airflow rates. External installation of one
or multiple venturi nozzles always requires an external pump to
ensure adequate supply of water to the nozzles.
All models are equipped with a fresh water replenishing tank
with integrated level control, a fresh water fitting, and overflow
weir. If the water level falls below the pre-set nominal value,
the solenoid valve in the fresh water fitting is opened by means
of a contact in the float switch. Water is refilled until the
required water level is reached.
The physical/chemical properties of the slurry or sludge that is
to be disposed of defines the type of waste disposal equipment.
If the ingredients are harmless, the waste water can be
released into the municipal sewer system. However, federal
and local environmental regulations and instructions regarding
appropriate waste disposal must be observed.
Harmful or toxic substances in water require special treatment
and must be processed by in-plant effluent treatment or
detoxification facilities.

In addition to the separator unit, Keller Lufttechnik supplies the
complete ready-to-use scrubber system. This includes source
capturing devices, ductwork, exhaust gas stacks, sound
insulation, switch cabinets as well as supply air systems.
COMPLETE SYSTEMS FROM ONE SOURCE
COMPACTWETSCRUBBER VDN-TA
Components, i.e., nozzle, mist collector, sludge tub, and fan of the wet scrubber VDN-TA, can be placed in different locations. For instance, the nozzle can be installed behind the
source capture point. Because it is continuously rinsed, air contaminants cannot be deposited on the inside of the crude gas ductwork. It is also possible to operate several VDN-TA
units with one common de-sludger.
