About Euro PM2012
Why you should attend
The annual Euro PM Congress is the foremost event for the international powder metallurgy community, and provides the focal
point for industry personnel, researchers, and suppliers to meet, network and develop their business.
This years congress will provide customised programmes for the following PM sectors:
Hard Materials & Diamond Tooling
Powder Injection Moulding
Hot Isostatic Pressing
PM Applications and New Processes a frst for a Euro PM event
The programme will include some 200 technical papers presented in oral and poster sessions, as well as four in-depth Special
Interest Seminars. Details of the full programme can be found on the following pages.
The Euro PM2012 social programme will give delegates additional opportunities to network, and will include Welcome and
Exhibition/Poster receptions, and a Gala Dinner.
Congress Organiser
Euro PM2012 is sponsored and organised by the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA), in cooperation with key
members of the PM fraternity in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The EPMA, founded in 1989, is the leading PM trade association
representing the interests of the entire European PM community, and promoting PM technology throughout the world. EPMA
members will qualify for special discounts on their registration fees, and further information on membership and EPMAs
services can be found on www.epma.com.

Wednesday Morning, 19 September
Special Interest Seminar on New Opportunities for PM in
the Emerging Markets for Renewable Energy
Chairman: Dr Luc Federzoni (CEA Liten, France)
The emergence of new markets of renewable energy like photovoltaics batteries, gives new opportunity for the
powder metallurgy community. Indeed, the advantage to provide net-shape, complex parts, new functional materials is
a key point on applications where the cost is essential to give credibility/acceptance on products.
During this seminar, different examples of applications of powder metallurgy on different products in the feld on the
renewable energy industrial applications will be presented and the potential of applications of such technologies for
the future will be discussed during a round-table.
Opportunity for new research topics from the development of new type/grade of powders, development of new
forming processes will also be discussed.
Introduction to Alternative Fields of Application of Metallic and Ceramic Powders

Wednesday Morning, 19 September
Special Interest Seminar on Metal Injection Moulding of
Titanium Based Materials in 2012
Chairmen: Dr Marco Actis Grande (Politecnico di Torino, Italy)
Dr Frank Petzoldt (Fraunhofer IFAM, Germany)
Dr Bruno Vicenzi (Mimitalia srl, Italy)
With a focus on MIM of Titanium and Ti-based materials, we take a close look at the current status of this technology.
This seminar will give an outline on the technology development over the last few years, and try to determine what
did change as expected and what did not, and also, what are the new expectations for the future.
Titanium is gaining ground in terms of knowledge, availability, reliability of MIM products, and eventually applications
and market, and even though the market share is still no larger than 1%, the technology is of lively interest among
academia.
The seminar will host selected speakers from industry and academia, dealing with different aspects of the process, of
the materials and of the applications.

Dr Bryan Roebuck (NPL Materials Centre, United Kingdom)
The manufacturing, performance and reliability of hardmetal components will beneft from combining modelling and
experimental techniques through a wide length scale range. Hardmetals/cemented carbides are heterogeneous in
nature, and modelling of their behaviour will require a multi-scale and multi-disciplinary approach, through meso to
macroscale and from thermodynamics to mechanics.
This seminar will provide an insight into some of the methods, both computational and experimental, that are
currently being applied to hardmetals and other materials, including:
Overviews of modelling and experimental methods available
In-depth analyses of selected methods
Case studies of simulation used for actual components and production technologies
