Installation Test
Base Transceiver Station Equipment
ITMN:BTSE BS-241 / 241 II
1 BS-241 / 241 II Installation Test
1.1 Introduction
1.1.1 Aims of Installation and Commissioning
Installation and commissioning is based on extensive, high quality final factory tests. In
the factory, each module is tested during its production process; all RF parameters such
as the power and modulation spectrumare measured in the complete BTSE rack in cus-
tomer configuration.
The Final Factory Tests comply with the tests and measurements required by GSM
specifications.
The installation test can therefore concentrate on functional tests of the delivered HW.
The installation and commissioning of a network element followed by unit acceptance is
proof of:
It is assumed that:
The subdivision of tests in the steps
nal factory test
installation/commissioning (HW-test)
network integration (data base test)
allows a quick, economical, and reliable commissioning procedure.
This is according to the requirements for modern communication systems regarding
self-tests, and a quick and economic commissioning procedure. As the function test is
based on self-test routines, a high degree of reliability is achieved.
1.1.2 Pre-Commissioning and Pre-Acceptance
The BTSE may also be delivered partly or completely pre-commissioned and pre-
accepted.
If the BTSE is pre-commissioned and pre-accepted, some procedures that usually are
performed on site (see Chapter 2 "Tasklist") have already been performed in the factory.
In this case, these particular procedures need not be performed again during the
installation test phase.
It depends on the contract to what extent the BTSE is pre-commissioned and pre-
accepted.
A correct and complete delivery according to the network planning and the
customer order.
A correct mechanical and electrical installation according to the installation
documents.
The functional ability of the supplied HW
(correct functioning of the NEs at an interface in relation to other network
elements).

ITMN:BTSE BS-241 / 241 II Installation Test
Base Transceiver Station Equipment
All set parameters are listed in the Pre-Commissioning Paper. All executed tests and
their results are documented in the Final Factory Test Protocol. Both documents are
delivered together with the site-specific documentation.
Consult these documents to find out which procedures of the Tasklist can be left out.
1.1.3 Optional Measurements
Radio Frequency (RF) -measurements and Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) can be per-
formed by means of a spectrum analyzer or other test equipment and may be used as
an option for locating suspected faults.
They need not be done in every BTSE as regular measurements.
1.1.4 Using the ITMN
1.1.4.1 Required Knowledge
Only trained personnel should carry out the installation and installation tests.
The SIEMENS training centre offers the necessary courses.
1.1.4.2 Test Equipment
The test equipment and tools required for the tests are described in the corresponding
chapters.
1.1.4.3 Procedure in the Event of Faults after Commissioning
If faults occur in on-line operation they should be localized and cleared in accordance
with the instructions in the Maintenance Manual (MMN:BTSE BS-241 / 241 II).
1.1.4.4 Procedure in the Event of Faults not Described in the UMN
First the specialist in the installation team should try to clear the fault. If the installation
technician is not qualified to eliminate serious faults, a fault report must be filled out, pro-
viding the following information in detail:
description of the test step attempted
description of the system response
description of any systemactivities taking place at the same time, e.g. work done by
other testers during modication of hardware or software
The fault report must be sent to the Technical Assistance Center (TAC).
1.1.4.5 Dealing with Defective Modules
If a module proves to be defective, it should be sent in appropriate packaging to the re-
pair centre with the following information:
Name and code of the site
Name and code number of the module
Description of the fault
i
It is important, however, not to change the order of the remaining procedures.

To avoid destruction or damage comply with following rules.
Rules for Handling
The following safety instructions are to be noticed:
Personnel should avoid wearing synthetic clothing and shoes with plastic soles, as
these encourage the build-up of electrostatic charge.
Before handling modules, personnel should be discharged of electrostatic charging.
For this reason personnel should always put on a grounded wrist strap before chang-
ing a module.
ESDs should not be brought in contact with electrostatically charged or chargeable
objects.
ESDs should only come in contact with high valued discharging material ("gentle"
discharging), i.e. should not be made subject to "harsh" discharging with, for exam-
ple, a metal plate.
ESDs should be set down on grounded surfaces only (exible bases with a ground-
ing connection for servicing purposes)
ESDs should not be brought into the vicinity of strong DC electrical elds, e.g. cath-
ode ray tubes/monitors (safety distance at least 10 cm/~4 inches).
All tools and test equipment should be discharged of electrostatic charging before
handling modules.
ESDs should only be transported in appropriate packing. A grounded wrist strap
must be put on before removing ESDs.
Modules should only be touched by their edges. Components or printed circuits
should not be touched.
1.1.5.2 System Voltages
All the systemunits require a power supply of 230 V AC (207 V AC in case of BS-241U),
which are converted to -48 V DC (positive pole grounded).
Some parts are supplied with the line voltage directly and are to be handled with safety
tools with extreme care. Only trained personnel should carry out those jobs.
Care must be taken because some parts produce a high operating temperature.
This warning must appear in the original German text:
Alle Systemeinheiten bentigen eine Wechselspannung von 230 V AC (207 V AC bei
BS-241U), die in eine Gleichspannung von -48 V DC (positiver Pol an Masse)
umgesetzt wird.
Einige Teile fhren Netzspannung und sind mit besonderer Sorgfalt zu behandeln. Nur
ausgebildetes Personal darf entsprechende Arbeiten bernehmen.
Weiterhin ist zu beachten, da sich einige Bauteile stark erhitzen.

1.1.5.3 Changing Breakers
Breakers may only be changed by operator. Only authorized breakers as given in the
manual may be used. Breakers are to be changed as described in this manual.
1.1.5.4 Grounding of Modules / Shelters
All modules must be plugged in correctly to ground them before power is switched on.
Ground connections between Shelters must be plugged in correctly.
1.1.5.5 Handling Moist Modules
After storage in an humid environment, modules with condensation moisture must be
dried before they are used. This is important because otherwise the modules may be
damaged or destroyed.
1.1.5.6 CE and UL Declaration of Conformity
Fig. 1.4 CE Symbol / UL Symbol
The CE and UL declaration of conformity for the product will be fulfilled if the setup and
cabling is undertaken in accordance with the specification in the manual and the docu-
mentation listed there, such as mounting instructions, cable lists, etc. Where necessary,
account should be taken of project-specific documentation.
Deviations fromthe specifications or independent changes during setup, such as use of
cable types with lower screening values, for example, can lead to the CE requirements
being violated. In such cases, the CE declaration of conformity is invalidated and the re-
sponsibility passes to the person who has caused the deviations.

i
Important Note:
In order to make sure that the Door Open alarm is really deactivated after closing the
shelter door, please do the following:
Close the door, turn the door handle in the clockwise direction and pass over the nor-
mal locking position (vertical to the ground), until you feel that it can not be turned any
further. Then bring back the handle to the normal locking position (vertical to the

1.2.3.3 BTSE Modules
The entire BTSE contains several cells called BTS:
Up to 12 Cells are available.
Check whether the BTSE modules are correctly configured.
Redundancy
CORE redundancy can be installed. In the CORE, the functionality of clock genera-
tion, link interface, and Call Control is implemented.
The BCCH redundancy is matter of SW. The task "BCCH reconguration" runs in
the BTSEplus and the functionality is independent of the type of antenna combining.
AC/DC redundancy is carried out as n+1 redundancy. N+1 AC/DC Converters oper-
ate in load sharing, but n AC/DCs are able to supply the whole BTSEplus.
1.2.4 Antenna and Feeder Cable
The types of antennas and feeder cables have to be checked!

1.2.5 Module HW Coding
Every type of module has its own code key to ensure they are fitted in the correct slot
position. The on-board code must match the backplane code of the BTSE Shelter.
1.3 Visual Inspection of BTSE Electrics
1.3.1 Polarity of DC Input and Tolerance
The BTSE requires -48 V DC with a tolerance of -15%/+20% (-40,8V...-57,6V) for cor-
rect operation (positive pole is grounded).
Check this voltage.
1.3.2 Circuit Breakers
Shelter internal breakers are available at the DC Panel for several modules to supply
direct current (DC).
The breakers are mounted at the DC Panel on the top of the Shelter.
There are different types of DC Panel for Base Shelter (Fig. 1.7), Extension Shelter,
Service Shelter 1 and Service Shelter 2.
Check for fully equipped breakers and that all breakers are being switched off.

1.3.3 External Alarms
There are three types of ACT modules.
ACTM for Base Rack optional
ACTP for each rack, for Base Rack optional
ACTC for all racks is part of the DC Panel.
All racks are equipped with one ACTC which is part of the DC Panel. In the Base Rack
the ACTC is directly connected to the COBA. In the other racks the ACTC is connected
to the ACTP. On each ACTC 16 Alarms are available, 7 Rack Alarms (RAL) that are cre-
ated automatically during the creation of RACK and FAN and 9 Operator Alarms (OAL).
The OAL have to be created via 3.17 "Create the Alarm Configuration (ENVABTSE)"
and have the numbering ENVA 0 - ENVA 8.
The Base Rack can be equipped with ACTM. The ACTMsupports 48 additional ENVAs,
that have the numbering ENVA 9 - ENVA 56, and 8 Operator Commands (not supported
by SW of BR5.5). The installation of ACTM is optional. If no ACTM is installed, in the
Base Rack 16 Alarms are available.
The ENVAs 0-6 and ENVA 8 are connected to the DC Panel (described in IMN:BTSE
BS-241) and should be named as in the table below.

1.4.4.2 FDUAMCO
For each system GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 one type of FDUAM-
CO units is available, which can be configured by jumper cables for One-To-One mode
(= FDUAMCO 2:2) or Two-To-One mode (= FDUAMCO 4:2).
The FDUAMCOunit can be configured to different modes by application of two jumpers.
FDUAMCO 2:2
The FDUAMCO in 2:2 configurations is used for 2 antennas with 1 carrier each.
For this configuration, the connectors 2 and 3 have to be jumpered.
The second free jumper per module can be placed at connector 4
FDUAMCO 4:2
The FDUAMCO in 4:2 configurations is used for 2 antennas with 2 carriers each.
For this configuration, the connectors TX 0 and TX 1 are used as TX inputs. One jumper
is applied for the connectors 1 and 2. The second jumper is placed between connectors
3 and 4.
FDUAMCO 8:2
For an 8:2 configuration a COAMCO can be used in conjunction with a FDUAMCO in
4:2 configuration (see Fig. 1.13).

1.4.4.4 FICOM
Usage of FICOM modules of different variants
There are several different FICOM modules (FIPLUB2RV3, FIPLUB2RV4,
FIPLUX2RV3, FIPLUX2RV4).
Installation of FICOM modules
For each cell one FICOM plus base module (FIPLUB) has to be installed. To combine
more than 2 carriers the base module can be expanded by the FICOM plus expansion
module (FIPLUX). The expansion can be done to one side only per base module.
Expansion of FICOM can be only done inside each Shelter. To combine more than 8
carriers a base module has to be installed in the extension Shelter
Fig. 1.14 FICOM Modules for 8 Carriers in 1-Cell Configuration
!
One Base Module can be expanded by 3 Expansion Modules, all modules in this com-
bination must have the same variant (all ...V3 or all ...V4).
i
Open expansion connectors RF EXP of FICOMmodules have to be terminated with the
terminator delivered with the FICOM base module.
!
It is suggested to fix the jumper cable very carefully, don't torque to strong. The cable
should not move. Otherwise the cable inner conductor will tear.

The mounting location of the FICOMmodules depends on the Cell configuration and an-
tenna combining.
It is possible to have a mixed installation of (F)DUAMCO and FICOM modules, within
one Shelter.
1.4.4.5 HPDU
The High Power Duplexer is an RF module with the requirement to save antennas in the
TX path. For FICOM use two antennas per cell are necessary for RX diversity and one
antenna is necessary for TX.
The main functions of HPDU is combining RX and TX signal. In the TX path the HPDU
is filtering the TX signals coming from the shelter and feeding them to the TX/RX anten-
na. In the RX path the function is filtering the incoming signal.
The HPDU is placed between antenna and FICOM/DIAMCO. The cabling is described
in Tab. 1.12.
1.4.5 Antenna Multicoupling
Multicoupling can be done by DIAMCO, (F)DUAMCO or COAMCO. Each DIAMCO /
(F)DUAMCO/ COAMCOcan drive as many CUs as RX output connectors are available.

The setting of switches 24 determines the DIAMCO/(F)DUAMCO attenuation.
The total attenuation of the feeder cable (between TMAand DIAMCO/(F)DUAMCO) and
the DIP switch must be 6dB.
That means, the following formula applies:
DIP switch value = 6dB minus measured insertion loss of feeder cable.

1.4.5.3 Cascadation of Multicouplers
For supplying more receiver inputs, the multicoupler can be cascaded in order to save
Antennas in the RX path. Cascading can be done twice, the possible configurations are
shown in Tab. 1.14.
The chain goes from antenna to BTSE, so the first device is the one nearest to the an-
tenna. The Parameter LNAPRED has to be set if there is a TMA installed to activate the
TMA. If there is no TMA, LNAPRED has to be set only for the 1. and 2. Cascadation.

3.4 ACDCP
i
The HMO "ACDCP" is realized by the module "DCBCTRL".
i
For BS-241 systems, ACDCP and BATTERY objects can only be created in a Service1
Shelter (Rack # 3), although the battery hardware may also be located in a Service2
Shelter (Racks # 4 ... 7).
For BS-241 II systems, ACDCP and BATTERY objects can not be created at all, since
this is not necessary in these systems.
The AC/DC and battery function in a BS-241 II system is monitored via the 4 following
environmental alarms (see also Create the Alarm Configuration (ENVABTSE)):
- Mains Breakdown (MBR)
- Battery Breakdown (BBR)
- Battery Charger Fault (BCHF)
- DC Voltage out of Tolerance (48OTB)
In order to use the feature "emergency configuration", the associatedString (ASTRING)
for the alarm "Mains Breakdown" (MBR) must be exactly ##ACDC_FAULT.
The four above alarm connections are provided with a normally closed relay contact.
Therefore each of these 4 alarms are to be configured as High Active.

It is possible to use ECUs, GCUs or FlexCUs, but please note the following:
Since the GSM 1800 GCU has more RF output power than the GSM 1800 CU, mixed
cell configurations might result in slight changes of some performance counters and
CU dependent coverage. It is not recommended to use the antenna hopping mode in
this configuration.
i
In case of a change from CUs to ECUs in the BS-241 II, the 60A-MSU must be
changed to 80A-MSU (Not BS-241 II DC, in that case the 100A-MSU remains).

The parameter RXLEVADJ must be set in case of different cable length in the

are:
RXLEVADJ
adjustValue: -24.0 ... 24.0 in steps of 1.0
adjustDivValue: -24.0 ... 24.0 in steps of 1.0
TXLEVADJ
Adjustable values are:
TXLEVADJ: -63.0 ... 63.0 in steps of 1.0
The following formula is used to determine this value:
TXLEVADJ = attenuation factor of the used combiner + attenuation factor of RF
cable.
Note: use values without minus/plus sign for the formula!
Example:
Combiner: -1.5 dB
Cable: -0.5 dB
(1.5 dB) + (0.5 dB) = 2 dB means TXLEVADJ=2

An associated string can contain a maximum of 26 ASCII characters. Under-
score must be used instead of blank.
For the BTSE 240 II and 240XL II S1A Rack: The ASTRING for ENVA 2 (MBR)
must be ##ACDC_FAULT. It must be exactly that string to guarantee that with
an MBR alarm the emergency conguration is activated.
Each AC/DC alarm connection is provided with a normally closed relay contact.
Therefore each of the 4 AC/DC alarms are to be congured as High Active.
Example:
Create ENVABTSE:NAME=RACK:4/ENVABTSE:2,ASEV=CRITICAL,AS-

The alarms can be congured as high active or low active:
high active: alarm message starts if the pins are opened.
low active: alarm message starts if the pins are closed by short circuit.

3.19 BPORT
i
Previous to the BPORT creation the Shelter must be created.
The object BPORT determines the PCM line configuration.
i
The amount of available BPORTs depends on the used HW variant for the objects
COBA and COSA.
We have the types COBA2P8 and COSA6P16.
- COBA = 2 ports (instances x = 0,1)
- COSA = 6 additional ports (instances x = 2,...,7)
and we have the types COBA4P12 and COSA4P12.
- COBA = 4 ports (instances x = 0,...,3)
- COSA = 4 additional ports (instances x = 4,...,7)
i
In case of lineConfiguration = multidrop/loop the following attributes of instance x and
(x+1), where x and (x+1) are considered as a port pair, are equal:
- layer1ControlTS (for loop configuration only)
- layer1ProtocolType
- layer1RemoteAlarmType
- lineConfiguration
i
The even numbered port of a port pair is always the default receiving port fromthe BSC
and must be created first.
The odd numbered port is always the default transmitting port to the BSC:
To guarantee a correct transition of SW releases BPORT instance 0 must be used for
O&M link.

3.25 Replacing of Failed HW
1 Module Test
After replacing a failed HW unit, it is necessary to enable this new HW unit via
test or delete/create command before starting any other activities (e.g. SW
download or activation) because the PID of a new module is only updated after
test or create commands and it is necessary during download to have the ac-
tual PID of all modules stored on the COBA.
Unlocking the BTSM will cause a full BTS alignment.
When issuing BTSE conguration commands during an alignment, a new align-
ment will be started.

For every couple of alarm terminals on the ACT (see IMN:BTSE) alternatively
close/open the contact and check on the LMT the corresponding alarm message. If the
alarmis configured high, an alarmstart message will be displayed first, if it is configured
low, an alarm cease message will be displayed first.

3.28 Remote Inventory
The function Remote Inventory of the Siemens Basestation Systemperforms electron-
ic, non volatile storing of the complete, individual product identification data (PID) of
each inventory object.
Modules that have its inventory data on board are called ob_RIUs (on-board Remote
Inventory Units). The PID of this ob_RIUs is automatically loaded to the inventory data
file (IDF).
In order to include inventory data of objects without a non volatile storage (e. g. frames,
Shelters, OEM components), the data of these so called nob_RIUs (not on-board Re-
mote Inventory Units) are entered into a inventory data table (IDT) via the LMT and the
off-line tool IDF Evolution. As a nob_RIU file (NOB) these data are stored on the CO-
BA.
The complete Remote Inventory Data is delivered with each Shelter on a disk. The file
name is composed of the serial number of the Shelter ( / replaced by _) and the ex-
tension IDF, for example: CN+_JD100001.IDF. The data of the nob_RIUs has to be
attached to the automatically created PID of the ob_RIUs.
For nob_RIUs referring to MMN:BTSE BS-241 / 241 II List of nob_RIUs
1 Start IDF Evolution
bTo start the IDF Evolution select IDF GSM -> IDF Evolution from the Win-
dows program menu.
2 Open IDF-File

If you have problems switching over to Phase 3:
In case of problems with the switchover to Phase 3, please refer to the following checklist. Here the minimal
BTSE configuration is described with the preconditions for a successful switchover to Phase 3:
COBA-0 = unlocked.enabled
COBA-0 is always created and enabled automatically.
Here the Administrative State (AST*) is relevant.
Minimal parameters of RACK-0: available
This means that TypeOfBTSE (TYPRACK) must be set first before
any HMO can be created.
LAPDLE-0 = created
Minimal parameters of LAPDLE-0: available
This means that the LAPD channel (LAPDCH) must be defined.
Accuracy of CCLK >= medium (at least !)
The current CCLK accuracy can be determined by performing the
LMT command Get Syncbtse ---> CCLKACC.
Minimal parameters of BTSM: available
This means that the TEI must be defined.
Minimal parameters of BPORT-0: available
This means that the L1ControlTimeSlot (L1CTRLTS) and
LoopConfiguration (LCONF) must be defined.
*) For more information on the Administrative State (AST), please refer to MMN:BTSE BS-241 / 241 II

3.31 Spectrum Analyzer Measurements
There are some optional useful RF measurements with a spectrum analyzer (here HP
8594A) to check the functioning of the BTS.
After switching on the spectrumanalyzer, you must wait until it has warmed up to its op-
erating temperature. The warm-up phase lasts about 15 minutes and is indicated on the
screen by the message "OVENCOLD". As soon as the warm-up phase is over, the mes-
sage "OVEN COLD" disappears. Then you must start the self-calibration routine of the
spectrum analyzer in order to prepare the analyzer for measurement operation.
The abbreviations DCS and DCS 1800 used in the following steps are other expressions
for GSM 1800. They are used in the procedures to make the work easier at the mea-
surement equipments and adapters.

5.3 Module Identication by Inventory Data and Label
Every module of the BTSE is identified by one or more labels, depending of the type
(e.g. with/without FW, OEM, ...) and the used labeling scheme. In general, the HWcode
number including the HWissue is printed as a 4 code block separated by hyphens, fol-
lowed by the functional state after a slash mark as separator and can be found on any
module. If a FW is included, a second number with the same structure is shown on a
common or an other label. A bar-code (or 2D-code) and a mnemonic name complete
the identification of the module and they are usually fixed at the front or on the levers.
HW and FW code numbers including issue and functional state can also be received
electronically via LMT and the off-line tool IDF Evolution. The so called Inventory Data
consists, among HWand FWcode numbers, of many other information items about the
module like series number of the PCB or HW/SW compatibility
Using the IDF Evolution the relevant information of each module respectively inventory
taken unit can be displayed and compared with the one on the labels. The procedure of
reading the appropriate data is described in the MMN:BTSE BS-241 / 241 II in the pro-
cedure Updating the Remote Inventory Data.
