NEW DELHI: Four people have been killed after
Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express derailed near
Chhapra in Bihar early on Wednesday morning.
Railways, while confirming the death of 4 people
in the accident, has not ruled out sabotage.
Relief and rescue operations are on in full swing
at the accident site.
Railway minister has announced compensation
of Rs 2 lakh for the family of the dead.
Commissioner of railway safety will conduct an
independent inquiry to find out the cause of the
accident.
Railway Board chairman Arunendra Kumar said sabotage seems to be
the prima facie cause of the accident.

Earlier, DIG Saran Vinod Kumar also confirmed four deaths speaking to NDTV.
"The accident happened soon after the train left Chhapra station around 2am," the DIG said.
"Around 8 to 10 people have been injured in the accident," Vinod Kumar told the channel.
The DIG had ruled out sabotage.
"The driver said he heard no sound of explosion. The train stopped after some noise on the tracks,"
he said.
According to reports, 11 coaches of train number 12236 have derailed.
However, some TV reports say only 5 coaches have derailed.
Railway officials said that the line will be restored by evening.

I hope that the NDA MP's from Mumbai who captured headlines yesterday
with their demand to roll back the fare raise for Suburban trains will read this
report and ponder why even a prestigious train like Rajdhani Express derails
and kills. Do they not know that Suburban sections suffer greater strain and
run greater risk of track-fatigue than main-line sections because of greater
intensity of traffic and speedier acceleration and deceleration of trains over
them? Suburban sections need intensified maintenance. Maintenance of
track costs much money. Money comes to Railways not through Budgetary
allocation but through sale of tickets, increased revenue from which these
MPs want to deny to the Railways. Chapra, the Railway Station where this
derailment took place, is not far from the home of Lalu Prasad Yadav, to
whom, sacrificing a national need to her need to be in power, the Chairperson
of UPA gave a long innings as Railway Minister though what he was doing to
the financial security of Railways was no secret. I hope the Lady reads this
news and feels guilty. When North-Eastern Railway was still on Metre Gauge,
it ran a Steamer service across River Sone to connect Palezaghat station
with Mahendrughat on the other bank, from where one went by road to Patna
Station on the Broad Gauge. When an event in Patna was expected to attract
huge crowds each day for over four days and strain the Railway's capacity to
check ticketless travel, I, then a man just out of College and full of ideals,
suggested placing huge boxes at many suitable points to collect tickets at
exit points at both Palezaghat and Mahendrughat stations, to do away with
the need for Ticket Collectors at the gates. Posters were exhibited on the
Steamer requesting passengers to drop their used tickets in that box. I
swelled with pride when my suggestion wax accepted. Sttatistics revealed a
plus- 90 % collector of used tickets from the ship. My dream of a bright
career was lost on the third day when among the printed card tickets, we
found a paper ticket on which a passenger had written in lovely script, "
Railway kay jitney gadhe afsar hain, un sabko mera namaskar (Bihar has
always been polite, even in abusing). Agar mujhe pahle maloom hota ki koi
TC nahin rahega, main yeh ticket khareed-ta hi nahin. Khair. Aglee baar
dekhengay. Namaskar". That Bihari may now be supporting the fare raise as
sorely needed and may be buying tickets, even Platform tickets, as his
contribution. It is the sense of responsibility in Legislators which has
worsened. We expect support for national causes from MPs even at the cost
of their popularity. That was what Modi said when he prescribed his Bitter-
pills for chronically sick India.

Main reason for the derailment of train engine /bogies in most of the accident
cases are worn out rails needs to be replaced & other reasons are due to the
mistake of the driver of the train who has not followed speed instructions at
blind/sharp turning points & could be due to train/bogies wheels alignment or
some other problems .through investigation is needed to ascertain the exact
cause of the accident .

The report is incomplete. The title says that 4 people died, but the full report
says that around 8 to 10 people were injured. However accident is accident.
and loss of lives is regrettable. Let the Government take real measures to
improve the safety of the trains and the passengers even if it may need
generation of fund through hike in fare. But the job must be done in a
professional way.

Some noise in the tracks? Must be the Central governments fault or RSS's
fault. Surely, it is not the fault of the maintenance department. Oh no, they
are so sincere and law-abiding members of society. Highly caring and
sensitive people. I mean just look at Lallu. A true reflection of Sri Krishna!

Every employee need to be working deligently to minimize accidents.
However we must understand before making derogatory comments,
that the total rail lines and traffic and number of trains in totality are
almost equivalent to USA RUS EU Japan. In the USA in spite of lots
of automation had 6 accidents this year only.!! I think India is doing
not worst than any of the above when considered what it serves.
