STORY
Somalia held its first cltral festi#al in decades in the capital Mogadish
on Snday 22 5ne 2*1$. ,he 0esti#al, hosted /y the Ministry of
!nformation, drew participants from different regions of the contry.
More than 2* years of war made it impossi/le for the Somali people to
con#ene at p/lic e#ents.
,he festi#al had performing artists drawn from 6aidoa, 6eletweyne,
7ismayo, 8arowe, Hargeisa and Mogadish. 0eatred performances
inclded msic, dance, poetry, drama as well as /roadcasts from the
archi#es of 9adio Mogadish.
Speaking dring the festi#al, the Somali Minister of 8ender and Hman
9ights "e#elopment, 7hadi:a Mohamed "iriye, rged the artists to
tili3e their talent to ad#ocate for nity in the contry.
