Albemarle High School Pie Baking Contest

OFFICIAL RULES: Eligibility: 16 or older. NO COMMERCIAL PIES PLEASE! Submit One Pie for
Judging. Entrants may also sub mit an identical pie for the AHS Drama Dessert Hour Fundraiser. Bring
your baked pie(s) and recipe(s) to Albemarle High School, 2775 Hydraulic Road on Friday, December 4,
2009 by 5 p.m. Judging begins at 6 p.m.

How to Enter: Obtain an official entry form, available at Albemarle High School, at WINA Studios
on Rose Hill Drive or online at www.k12albemarle.org/albemarlehs. Fill out the form with ALL of the
applicable information and mail or deliver along with the $5 entry donation to: Albemarle High School;
2775 Hydraulic Road; Charlottesville, VA 22901. (434) 975-9300.

There is no limit to the number of categories you may enter. Entry fees apply as stated for each pie
entry submitted. No refunds will be issued for no-show pies or pies that miss the judging deadline.

Entry fee: $5.00 donation to AHS Drama for each pie entered. ALL entries MUST be baked in an
aluminum foil pan, and pans will NOT be returned.
A recipe MUST accompany each entry. All recipes must be clearly printed or typed and include your
NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, RECIPE TITLE and RECIPE CATEGORY.

JUDGING: Entries will be judged for the following: taste, texture and consistency of crust and filling
and appearance. This is a blind judging competition
and all decisions of the judges are final. Judges are:
local historian and radio personality, Coy Barefoot; Pie Baking Contest Judging
Albemarle County School Board chair Brian
Wh e el er, AHS Principal Jay Thomas.
Criteria
Pies will be judged on the following criteria
AWARDS: 1st and 2nd place ribbons will be awarded
in each category. The winning pie and baker will be Overall appearance and Impression -- 25 points
• Consistency of crust/topping
featured in an upcoming issue of Albemarle Family
• Runniness, juiciness or firmness
Magazine. Best in Show winner receives AHS Drama
• Consider the memorable quality of the pie.
t-shirt or two tickets to performance of Othello.
Are you impressed?
Winners will be announced Friday at 7 p.m.
Taste -- 25 points
