BOSTON MANAGER JOHN FARRELL:

On the strength of Clay Buchholz tonight

Yeah he was outstanding. You know with the exception of a three hitter span he really settled in from the third inning on.
Thought that the seventh inning was probably his best of the night, where he really felt comfortable in his change-up. We
thought all along that [the change-up] was a key pitch for him and he pitched comfortably. He was extremely efficient with
only around 70 pitches through seven innings and he really gave us a lift in our starting rotation. What that means for us
going forward, is not only a boost, but the potential for well above average performance.

Changes seen in Clay Buchholz tonight

Fundamentally, hes been more compact over the rubber and in control of his body. He looked confident he looked
relaxed. He was able to make pitches with four different types of pitches. An overall outstanding performance on his
part.

How much it mean to Buchholz and the club with his swift recovery in 2
nd
inning

Anytime you see a pitcher able to make the adjustments in a couple pitch span, not only does it give the guy on the
mound a tremendous amount of confidence but all of a sudden hes working and the team plays particularly good defense
behind him. Daniel Nava and Jonny Gomes in the outfield and a key double play in that sixth inning let us get out of a
threat. But Clay set the tempo tonight. A lot of strikes a lot of early contact just an outstanding ballgame on his part.
