Today, satellites are with us at every moment
of our day-to-day lives, with applications as
diverse as telephone, television, Internet,
meteorology, telemedicine, navigation
systems and personal assistance services.
Tomorrow, all of these applications will occupy
a more important place in our lives, both at a
personal and a professional level. Whether
for states, communities, manufacturers,
agricultural professionals, healthcare, NGOs,
architects or urban planners, we are all
now aware of the contribution of satellite
technology and its growing importance.
Organised by CNES, together with its
partners, the Midi-Pyrnes region, Greater
Toulouse, the agglomeration community of
Sicoval, the Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Toulouse and Midi-Pyrnes
Expansion, with the support of Airbus Defence
& Space and the Space Alliance, the Toulouse
Space Show will once again this year be the
key meeting point for space professionals
and users, to address the prospects and
challenges of the future. The new format of the
2014 edition, with round table discussions, an
international exhibition, a business convention
and associated events, looks very promising
in terms of promoting exchanges that shall, no
doubt, be particularly fruitful.
The objective of the Toulouse Space Show
is to highlight the know-how of players in the
space sector and underline the economic
activity that they generate. This unique event,
at the crossroads of innovation and economic
development, will enable its promoters to unite
communities of space users and help create
a link between the industrial sector and the
scientifc and space community. With 12,000
jobs in this sector alone, the Midi-Pyrnes
region is the European number 1 for the
design and production of space systems and
their applications. Since 2008, each edition of
the Toulouse Space Show has attracted over
a thousand participants representing more
than 50 nationalities, confrming the status of
Toulouse and the Midi-Pyrnes region as the
European space capital.
We can bet that once again this year, this
event will be a great success in favour of all
participants and space users!
Welcome to the
2014 Toulouse Space Show!
Depuis
2008, chaque dition du Toulouse Space Show attire

Bernard PLANO
President of Midi-Pyrenees Expansion
Regional Council Member
Midi-Pyrnes
Expansion
Lets put space in a winning orbit!
For this fourth edition of the Toulouse Space
Show, CNES, the Midi-Pyrenees Region,
its economic development agency and their
partners have achieved their ambitious goal
of transforming this week-long event devoted
to space applications into an international
exhibition of space and downstream services.
Consequently, with this new, resolutely
business oriented format, seven round tables
are providing feedback by giving the foor to
the users of space, whether they are industry
players or local communities. An international
business convention brings prime contractors,
manufacturers, space systems operators,
space solution developers, suppliers and users
together. Finally, with 100 exhibitors from 19
countries, the Toulouse Space Show offers a
regional, national and international showcase
for the space sector, covering the entire
industry from infrastructure, to applications, to
the complete subcontracting chain.
For Midi-Pyrenees Expansion and space
industrialists, this edition is also highlighted
by the launch of an initiative which I fully
support: InSpace the Institute of Space
Applications with the support of the State and
the Region. InSpace, an organization devoted
to lobbying and business development,
created by industrialists in the sector with
the support of Midi-Pyrenees Expansion, has
three objectives: to catalog and organize the
regional offer by leveraging demonstration
zones, to promote this offer at the national and
international level including the market of
local authorities, and to make Midi-Pyrenees
the leading European space region and an
international showcase of space applications.
And this goal, like that of the Toulouse Space
Show itself, is in the process of being achieved!

Welcome to one of Europes leading
space-industry regions!
With more than 12,000 jobs, our region
accounts for half of the national workforce and a
quarter of the European workforce in the space
feld. The biggest names in the space sector are
all found here. But there is also a wide range of
innovative SMEs, and service and engineering
companies with excellent skills, and a total of
6,500 researchers and 18,000 students.
As a global competitiveness cluster for the
design and production of space systems, and
also the historic birthplace of navigation, with the
Egnos and Galileo programs, Midi-Pyrenees is
now the European leader in satellite navigation,
Earth observation, telecommunications, and
the global leader in satellite altimetry, remote
sensing, positioning and navigation. This
clearly demonstrates the importance of this
sector!
The region supports this dynamic by fostering
research and innovation, with the launching of
calls for projects to support industrial initiatives
in the feld of satellite navigation and digital
technologies.
Because space plays such a major role in our
economic development, the Regional Council,
in partnership with all the stakeholders, has
developed the Regional Space Plan that
defnes common areas of strategy. We have
also created NEREUS, the network of European
regions using space technologies. And we are
now going further, with the forthcoming creation
of InSpace, the Institute for Space Applications.
These are all initiatives that aim to strengthen
the position of Midi-Pyrenees, world center of
excellence in the space feld, and that provide
an incentive to discover or rediscover our
region.
We are delighted to welcome back the Toulouse
Space Show. With a new formula focused on
economic players, this international event
contributes to developing further space
applications and companies projects.
Welcome to one of Europes leading regions in
the space-industry!

Jean-Luc MOUDENC
Mayor of Toulouse
President of Toulouse Mtropole
Toulouse Metropole
Held every two years, alternating with the
prestigious Paris Air Show (Le Bourget), the
Toulouse Space Show is positioning itself as the
major biannual space event, and it is therefore
natural for Toulouse Mtropole, European capital
of space and the sky, to participate in this event.
Over three days, 1,000 professionals from over
30 countries will meet at this exhibition as they
attend business meetings, talks, and round
table discussions, and visit exhibition stands
and demonstrations. All of the space industrys
largest manufacturers and operators will be
there, and multiple subjects will be tackled.
In Toulouse and in our extended urban area,
the space industry brings together an unrivalled
pool of expertise, whether industrial, academic
or research-based. This position as leader has
been built up around historic actors in the feld:
the CNES (over 70% of its workforce is based
in Toulouse), renowned laboratories such as the
ONERA and the LAAS-CNRS, and of course
Thales Alenia Space and Airbus Defence and
Space, the two fagships of the European
space industry. A large number of world-class
subcontractors and companies that use and add
value to space data have developed alongside
them.
Faced with the economic challenges of the
space industry, and even more so in the context
of the new administration that is currently being
put in place in Brussels, Toulouse Metropole has
successfully focused its efforts on the economic
development of its territory. This drive is clearly
refected in the establishment of a campus
dedicated to the aerospace industry on the
Toulouse Montaudran site: an emblematic city
project and a showcase of our skills that will
also be home to the Saint Exupry Institut de
Recherche Technologique (technology research
institute), dedicated to on-board systems, and
the Espace Clment Ader, a research centre
specialised in the study of structures, systems
and mechanical procedures.
It is clear for all to see: Space hasnt fnished
flling in the gaps in Toulouse, and Toulouse
hasnt fnished flling in the gaps in Space!
cet vnement.
abords.
A Toulouse et dans notre agglomration, le
spatial rassemble une concentration sans
quivalent de savoir-faire, quils soient
industriels, acadmiques ou de recherche.
Cette position de leader sest constitue autour
dacteurs historiques : le CNES (plus de 70%
de ses effectifs se trouvent Toulouse), des
laboratoires de renom comme lONERA et le
LAAS-CNRS, et bien entendu les deux vaisseaux
amiraux de lindustrie spatiale europenne que
sont Thales Alenia Space et Airbus Defence
and Space. Autour deux se sont dvelopps
nombre de sous-traitants de classe mondiale
et dentreprises qui utilisent et valorisent les
donnes spatiales.

SICOVAL
Mireille GARCIA
Vice-President of the Sicoval Urban Community
Sicoval partner of the 2014 Toulouse
Space Show
Detecting, welcoming and supporting start-
ups, innovative enterprise, SMEs & SMIs,
anticipating their needs, fostering talents,
encouraging audacity These precepts are the
basis of the Sicoval Urban Communitys economic
development strategy which, for 39 years now,
has been a resolutely future-focused area of
innovation. The South-East of Toulouse combines
more than 33,000 jobs, with 5,640 industrial and
craft enterprises, shops, organisations and various
infrastructures.
Space, Satellites and their applications represent
a major hub of expertise which the Sicoval Urban
Community has closely supported for a long
time. There are two reasons for this. First of all,
we are right next to leading contractors (CNES,
Airbus Defense & Space) and the scientifc and
university backdrop of Rangueil Lespinet. The
second reason is the presence on the main South-
East of Toulouse business parks of numerous
space enterprises such as Spot Images, IGN,
Infoterra, CLS, Magellium, Zodiac International,
Alten, Metod Localisation, Eurogiciel, Novacom,
Mercator to name but a few.
The South-East of Toulouse Urban Community
enhanced its support to develop this segment
when, in 2012, it became fnancial partner of the
Aerospace Valley cluster. Sicoval is also a player
in the regional space programme, partner of the
Galaxie Club
Good reasons which led Sicoval to be one of the
partners of the previous editions of the Toulouse
Space Show and continue to be so. The number of
events and workshops scheduled this year heralds
an equally fruitful 2014 edition. This is what we
wish for all participants in the 2014 Toulouse
Space Show, a world meeting place for all players
and users of space applications.
Le Sicoval partenaire du Toulouse
Space Show 2014
Dtecter, accueillir et accompagner start-up,
rsolument tourne vers lavenir. Le Sud-Est
Toulousain rassemble plus de 33 000 emplois,
soit 5 640 entreprises industrielles et artisanales,
commerces, organismes et structures diverses.
LEspace, les Satellites et leurs applications
reprsentent un ple de savoir-faire majeur que
la Communaut dAgglomration du Sicoval
soutient et privilgie depuis longtemps. Deux
raisons cela.
Spot Images, IGN, Infoterra, CLS, Magellium,
Zodiac international, Alten, Metod Localisation,
Eurogiciel, Novacom, Mercator pour nen citer
que quelques unes.
La Communaut dAgglomration du Sud-Est
toulousain renforce son soutien au dveloppement
de cette flire en devenant partenaire fnancier
en 2012 du ple Aerospace Valley. Le Sicoval
est galement acteur du plan spatial rgional,
partenaire du club Galaxie
Voil de bonnes raisons qui avaient conduit
le Sicoval tre lun des partenaires des
prcdentes ditions du Toulouse Space Show
et poursuivre ce partenariat. Le nombre de
manifestations et ateliers prvus cette anne
laisse prsager une dition 2014 tout aussi
fructueuse.

Roundtable 3 11:15 > 12:30
Telecoms, the leading
space application,
what stakes for the
future?
Telecommunications represent the largest commercial use of space applications. Satellites
supplement the limited geographic coverage of ground-based networks, be they fxed (radio links,
copper , fbre, etc.) or mobile (3G, 4G, WIMAX, etc.) to make telecom services available everywhere
and for everyone. Based on current needs in terms of broadcasting and coverage of remote zones,
the roundtable will address the challenges of satellite-based telecommunications (mobility, non-linear
TV, 3D, maritime domain, etc.). It will try to identify user expectations more clearly and to defne the
related requirements in terms of space infrastructures, particularly in terms of competitiveness and
complementarity relative to other competing systems.

Roundtable 7 11:15 > 12:30
Professions and
training to meet the
challenges
of the future
Organised in collaborathion with ISSAT
The space sector will need to recruit many people over the next few years. A signifcant number of
people will be retiring and need replacing over a relatively short-term period and there is a signifcant
growth potentiel in this area, particularly in the space applications feld and related services.
In response to these challenges, the aim of this roundtable, which is open to high-school pupils and
students, is to raise awareness among young people and give them the motivation to embark on a
career in the space sector. The challenge is to train a large number of people, with different profles
and skills, to ensure the development of activities in this feld.
In particular, the roundtable will identify the needs in terms of training (initial training, continuing
education, etc.) and the courses offered by the different training facilities (universities, engineering
and management schools, etc.) to meet these needs, from technical disciplines to human and social
sciences on a national, European and international level.
