In light of the recent Mists outbreak, all citizens have been provided with a simple
but effective survival packet. The pages contained in this packet will teach you
how to best protect yourself and those you love from The Mists. You are going to
be alright and you will survive. One day, things may even get better.

Herestheinformationweknow:
1. TheMistsarenotthelightgreyfogwearefamiliarwith,butaDarkmarooncolor,appearingblackin
thenight.
2. TheMistscannotpersistinawarm,dry,orbrightlylitenclosedarea,nolargerthan1000ftsquare.
OnceapartoftheMistsarecutofffromthemainbodyoutside,theysoondissipateharmlesslyinto
theair.
3. TheMistsseemtoavoidthosewhoburnwithpassion.Thisisntfullyunderstood,butitseems
thatthewilltoliveisenoughtokeeptheMistsatbay.Onceagrouporareabecomesfullof
mostlyhopelessorfrightenedindividuals,theMistsconsume.
4. ThoseconsumedbytheMistsaretransformedandchangedinto.something.Zombies,people
callthem,butitsimpossibletosayforsure.
5. Duringthenightiswhenthemistsarethestrongest,butitsduringthedaythatthoseconsumed
bythemistsareactive.

Introduction
SurvivalPagesisatabletoproleplayinggamethat
providessimplemechanicsforadeadlyand
dangerousgame.Whileinmostgamesyoutoplay
asabadassinastrangeland,SurvivalPages
allowsyoutoplayasyourself,relyingonlyupon
yourclevernessandrealworldknowledge.There
arenospecialabilitiesorprestigeclasses.You
haveonlyyourbodypartsandlocationsasyour
greatestresources.Becareful!Whenyoufirst
startout,tasksaresimple,butasyougetinjured,
theybecomemoreandmoredifficult.

Youwillneed
somenotecards(1perperson)
pencils
atleast2sixsideddice(2perpersonhelpsthegamegofaster).

Playingthegameissimple:Youandyourfriendstaketurnsdescribingwhatyouare
doing/attemptingtodo,andinturn,theGMtellsyouhowtheworldreactstoyourdecisions.The
GMisalsoresponsiblefordescribingyoursurroundings(includingplaces,people,etc.)and
presentingtheobstaclesandchallengesthatyoumustconfront(environmentalhazards,
enemies,illness,andmore).

However,theGMdoesntdeterminetheresultofyourmoreriskyactions,however.Thatswhat
Movesarefor.

ThisgameisbasedonApocalypseWorldbyVincentBaker,whichusesthemechanicof
triggeredMoves.Mostofthetime,youcandescribeyouractions,andthenimmediatelydothem
nodicerequired.However,IfwhatyouareattemptingtodotriggersaMove,thenthatMove
determinestheoutcomeofyourattemptedactions.Moveshavearadioactivesign()nextto
themforeasyreference.

WalkingacrossthestreetwonttriggeraMove.Walkingacrossthestreetwhiledodging
enemiesanddraggingafriendmaytriggerSEVERALMoves.Justdescribewhatyouare
attemptingtodo,andTHENseeifittriggersamove.UnlessaMoveistriggered,yousucceed
atyourtaskwithoutanyconsequences.

AnotherthingtonoteaboutSurvivalPagesisthathoweveryoudescribeyouractions,that
exactlyhowithappens.OftencalledNarrativeTruth,thismeansthatcharactersshouldthink
aboutwhenandhowtheydescribewhattheyaredoing,andwhattheyareattemptingtodo.
Parts
YourcharacterismadeupoffiveParts.Partsaremoreofan
abstractionofyourbodyscapabilitiesandcondition,ratherthana
physicallimb.FocusonwhateachPartisusedfor,ratherthan
whichlimbitrefersto.(youmightbeabletoattackanenemywith
yourphysicallegs,butyouwouldstillrollwithyourArmsscore).
Allscoreshaveastartingandmaximumvalueof5.Remember,
yourbodyisyourmostvaluableandonlydependableresource.
Takecareofit!

Headfivesenses,figuringsomethingout,searchingforsomething,etc.
Coreeatingrawmeat,enduringpain,orshieldingsomethingwithyourbody,etc.
Armsstrengthactions,attack,handlingandmanipulatingobjects,etc.
Legsgettingaway,navigatingobstacles,dodging,andmovingquickly,etc.
SpiritSpiritcanNEVERberecovered,andrepresentsyoursanityandhope.Anytimeyou
sufferaninjury,youcanchoosetoletitaffectyourSpiritinstead.

Note:YourSpiritcanbeasmallbufferbetweenyouandinjury.Whenyouallowsomethingto
affectyourSpiritinsteadofyourbody,thatmeansthatyouavoidedthedamage,butitlefta
mentalscarordamagedyourpsyche.Explainhowthishappened,andhowitaffectsyou.
Example:IthoughtIwasdonefor,butatthelastminutetheattackfromthezombieveered
away,lightlybrushingmyhairinsteadoftearingoffmyface.Mylifeflashedbeforemyeyes,and
IdontknowifIcouldeverfaceazombiedirectlyagain.

Take a Risk
Wheneveryoudosomethingdifficult,risky,orpotentiallydangerous,determinewhichPartis
beingmostheavilyreliedupon,androll2d6(twosixsideddice),addingthatPartScoretothe
result.IfyoudontknowwhichPartisbeingmostreliedupon,roll+Corebydefault.
Ona13+ Yousucceedwithoutobviousordirectconsequences.
Ona1012 Yousucceed,butyoumustchooseoneconsequence.
Ona9 Youdontsucceedandyoumustchoosesoneconsequence.

Consequences
Whenchoosingfromthislistofconsequences,trytodecidewhichconsequencemakesthe
mostsenseforthatsituation.Playershavethefreedomtochoosetheirownconsequences,with
theGMsapproval.Yourfateshouldbeinyourownhands,andyougettodecideifyouwantto
alertmoreenemiesofyourpresence,orjusttwistyourankle.Keepinmindthatsometimes
injuryispreferabletosomeoftheotherconsequenceslisted.Embracefailure,andseeinjuries
asachallengetobeovercome,ratherthanapunishmentorfailuretosucceed.
YousufferaninjurytothatPartofyourbody.
Injuryseveritydependsonwhatyouaredoing.Themoredangeroustheaction,the
highertheinjurytier.WorkoutwithyourGMtodeterminethetierandlocationofthe
injury.(seeInjuryTiers)
Thetaskisincomplete,oreasilyundone.
Thiscanmeanyouaborttheactioninthemiddleofit,losinganyprogressyoumade,
andyoumaynotbeabletoattemptitagain.
Anitemorresourceislostorbroken(Ration/RX/Weapon/Ammo/Armor)
Thelostorbrokenitemshouldbedirectlyrelatedtothetaskattempted.Maybeduringan
attackyoulostyourweapon,orwhileescapingyoudroppedsomefood.
Youattractunwantedattention,and/orputyourself/someoneinaworsesituation.
Thiscanmeanattractingmoreenemies,ruiningaproject,orputtinganotheroneofyour
alliesintrouble.
Injury Tiers
Tier1)skindeepwounds,somethingthatcouldhealinadayortwo,mildpain.
Tier2)drawsblood,disruptsmuscle,inhibitsusage,throbbingpain
Tier3)IntensepainwhenusingthatPart,brokenbones.
Tier4)crippled,cantusepartproperly

EveryinjurysuffereddecreasestheScoreofthatpart
bythetieroftheinjury.

Resources
RationsFood,water,andMothersLovehaveallbeencombinedintoasingleresource,called
Rations.Rationscanbefound,scavenged,harvestedorkilled.Rationscanonlybespentata
WarmLocation,andtakeaboutadaytouse.Example:Deer(5rations),TunaCan(1),Boxof
Twinkies(2).

RxBasicMedicine.Painkillers(1Rx),bandages(2Rx),etc.Itisrare,andshouldbecarefully
conserved.

Locations
Alocationisanyroom,house,structure,orenclosed
spacethatisusefultotheplayers.Locationsare
madeupoftagsthatdeterminehowitcanbeusedby
survivorsanddegradeovertimeasitstagsgetused
up.Oncealocationrunsoutoftags,itisuseless,and
survivorsmusteitherFortifythecurrentlocation,orfind
anewlocation.Tagscanalsoberemovedforother
reasons,duetoweather,orbecauseof
attack/destruction.Listedbelowareavailablelocation
tags.Alocationcan(andusuallydoes)havemultiplesofthesametag.

Barricaded(Arms)Thelocationissecure,andcannotbereachedbymostenemies.
Addedbyboardingupwindows,blockingoffdoors,etc.
Warm(Core)Thelocationiswarmanddry.Itissuitableforrecoveringfrominjuries.
Addedbylightingafire,removingwater,layingdownblankets/bedding
Stocked(Legs)Thereisfoodstoredthatwillnotrotorgobad.
Addedbyforagingforfood,hunting,scavenging,etc.
Prepped(Head)therearemanyusefulitemsnearby,hiddenorlockedaway.(Ammo,Rx,
Weapons,etc)
Addedbypickingthelockordiscoveringthehiddensupplies.

Locationsareyoursecondmostimportantresource,
nexttoyourbodyparts.Locationsarewhereyou
recoverfrominjuries,theplaceyourstoreyour
supplies,andadefenseagainstthreats.Sometimes
itiseasierandsafertofindanewlocationwithtags,
thantotryandfortifyyourcurrentlocation.When
youdiscoveranewlocation,assigntagsasitmakes
sense.Foundlocationshavebetween3and10tags,
dependingonthequalityandconditionofthe
location.

Fortify / Hunt / Scavenge


Whenyouwanttofortifyyourlocationwithmoretags,pickwhichtagyouwanttoadd,and
describeHOWyouareaddingthattag.Areyouhunting?Lookingfornearbysupplies?ThenRoll
2d6+thePartassociatedwiththattag.
13+ youaddthatTagtothislocation.
1012 youaddthatTag,andsufferaTier1injurytothePartused.
9 youaddnothing,andmustremoveanothertagfromthatlocation

Youandyourgroupcangohunting,scavenging,orsearching
forsupplieswithoutusingtheFortifymove,butthenyouwill
actuallyplayoutwhatyouredoingwiththeGM.Youwillmay
findmoresuppliesbyactuallyheadingout,butitwillbebemore
dangerous.

Starting the Game
Youandyourfriendshaveheardthewarnings,butyoucouldntaffordafalloutshelterand
werentselectedforthegovernmentshelters.Youvemettogethertotakeabreakfromthe
worriesandstressoflifebyplayingsomeDnDandtakingiteasy.

Then,thelightsbegintoflicker,andsomeoneonthestreetbeginsscreaming..

Allplayersstartatfullhealth,andallofthePartshaveamaxscoreof5.Pick8tags,andassign
themtoyourcurrentlocation(whereyouareactuallyplayingthegame).Encourageyourplayers
toarmthemselveswithwhateverisnearby,andstartthegamewiththemgettingattackedby
something.Oncetheplayersgetafewinjuries,thingsshouldspiraloutofcontrolratherquickly.
Justprovidetheoccasionalenemyorthreat,andthemechanicsshouldtakecareoftherest.

Creating Threats/Enemies
CreatingenemiesandNPCsinSurvivalPagesiseasy.Tokeepitsimple,enemiesaresimply
assignedaTier,andtheirstatscanbedeterminedfromtheirlevel.Enemiescanalsobe
modifiedinadditiontotheirTiers,toaddsomevarietyandbetterrepresentdifferentthreats.In
addition,asenemiesareinjured,theirTierisreduced,andtheyinflictlessdamage.

Enemieshaveanumberofhealthpointsequalto3timestheirTier,andcaninflictinjuriesupto
theirTier.Everytimeanenemysuffers3pointsofdamage,itsTierisreducedbyone,bringingit
closertodeath,anddecreasinghowmuchinjuryincaninflict.

Sometimes,itsbesttosimplyinjureandreducethenearbyenemies,ratherthantotryand
focustheirattacks.Italsomeansthatattackingafewtimes,andthenescapingisaviable
option.

Forexample,ifawolf(Tier2)attacksthegroup,andisattackedinthehead(Tier1injury)and
thensmashedinthelegs(Tier2injury),thenthewolfisnowTier1,andonlyhas3remaining
healthpointsbeforedeath.

Traditional Enemy Creation


ForamoretraditionalRPGenemy,simplyassignallenemiesaninjurytier,andhowmuchHP,
ordamagetheycansustainbeforedeath.

Wolf:6hp,inflictsuptoTier2injuries.



Alternate Settings
SurvivalPagesisdesignedtoworkinalargevarietyofsettings,andismostlyfocusedon
normal,mundanecharacterstryingtosurviveanimpossiblesituation.Assuch,thereareno
levels,nopowerfulabilities,andlimiteddifferencesbetweencharacters.

SurvivalPagesalsoisdesignedtorequireveryfewenemiesinordertobedangerous.Infact,
thiscouldworkverywellinacompleteabsencesofenemies,allowingfortheenvironmentand
interpartygrumblingtoprovidemostofaconflict.

Formorezombieheavysettings,makesurethatmostenemiesareweak,weakerthanthe
playercharactersotherwiseyourplayerswillavoidconflictatallcosts.

Ifyouregoingtohavepowerfulenemies,makesuretheplayersgetsomeadvantagesandtime
topreporscavengeforsupplies,otherwisemostofthemwillbekilledverysoonandthegame
willendratherquickly.
