TOMS RIVER Robert O. Marshall, who was convicted of
arranging the contract murder of his wife in 1984 and who
successfully fought to overturn his death sentence two
decades later, is eligible for parole for the first time this
year.
The public has until Wednesday to comment to the state
Parole Board, in writing, on Marshalls appeal for release.
A hearing could take place as early as August, with Mar-
shall eligible for release up until March of next year, if the
board were to approve.
Robert O. Marshall is eligible for parole on Dec. 19,
2014, said David Thomas, executive director of the state
Parole Board. The state Parole Board is in the prelimi-
nary stages for a parole hearing for later this year.
Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato said this
week that Marshall should remain behind bars.

Is New Jerseys pension-fund investment in Revel,
the struggling Atlantic City casino that has declared
bankruptcy for the second time in 13 months, at risk?
The state agency that oversees New Jerseys multi-
billion-dollar employee pension funds has $200 million
invested with Canyon Capital Advisors, which owns a
stake in Revel.
And late last year, that state agency voted to invest
$300 million with Chatham Asset Management, the
hedge fund that owns the majority share 28 percent
of the faltering casino.
The cash-strapped casino filed for its second bank-
ruptcy last week. The 1,400-room luxury hotel and casi-

ASBURY PARK Saying he was struggling to be ef-
fective leading Asbury Parks school system, interim
Superintendent Robert Mahon handed in his resigna-
tion this week to a board whose opinions about his role,
he said, conflict with his own.
The departure is the latest blow for the district,
which has struggled with student success despite
spending more than $30,000 per pupil on education.
In a telephone interview with the Asbury Park Press,
Mahon said that he had been talking with the board
about leaving for some time and that his decision to
leave, which came Wednesday, was not the result of one
specific incident.
In terms of the stability of the district, they need
permanent leadership, and I dont represent that, he
said.
The resignation came the day after a contentious ex-
change between Mahon and some school board mem-
bers.
