The Store:
Mass Street Music, about 45 minutes Irom metropolitan Kansas City, Missouri, was started by Jim
Baggett, who also moonlights as an appraiser on the PBS series, 'Antiques Roadshow'. The shop is an
anchor at the corner oI 14
th
and Mass. Street in the musically rich college town and has grown Irom a
one-man store to a staII oI 15 including 4 Iull time luthier/instrument repair staII. The store Ieatures a
unique selection oI stringed instruments and accessories Ior acoustic and electric players and is also
known Ior having one oI the best instrument repair departments in the nation.
Renovations:
The building renovations include an expanded electric guitar room with a larger 'loud' area Ior those
who like to turn it up to 11. The Iirst room on the main Iloor now displays the store's acclaimed vintage
and boutique acoustics alongside beginner and mid-level acoustics, with additional individual try-out
rooms on the second Iloor.
Quote from General Manager, Mike Horan:
'We're excited to celebrate with the great Lawrence music community, and I think customers will really
enjoy the renovations. We've always had an an incredibly knowledgeable staII that have a real knack
Ior helping Iolks Iind exactly what they're looking Ior but now the store is a more comIortable place
Ior players to try out instruments. We're an independent, locally owned music store, not a big box store,
and I think Iolks will appreciate that right when they step in the door, said General Manager, Mike
Horan.
