When looking at IRA standards and the podcast lesson, there are a couple of standards that the
lesson covers. One standard is standard 2.3 which states candidates use a wide range of texts (e.g.,
narrative, expository, and poetry) from traditional print, digital, and online resources. In the lesson
students will be using handouts, the wiki page, and online resources to create their own page on the
wiki. This will impact their knowledge in a positive way since these are 21
st
century skills that they need
to know which is what standard 4.2 is about. Also when planning the lesson, I am thinking about the
best set up for my classroom which covers 5.1.
The podcast lesson covers a few of the ISTE standards as well. Since students are creating a
podcast and posting it on the wiki page, covers standard one which is about students using creativity
and innovation. Students are in groups working together which requires them to communicate and
collaborate with each other. This is what ISTE standard two is all about, communication and
collaboration. The lesson also has student thinking critically about the information that they are putting
on the podcast as well as who is going to be saying what which covers standard four.
When looking at Standard 6 of the Kentucky Teacher Standards, since available technology was
used to design and plan the lesson, this covers standard 6.1. The technology is being used to facilitate
student learning so this is what 6.2 covers. Not only is the technology is facilitating student learning but
the students are using the technology which is was 6.3 talks about. Finally, the lesson also covers 6.5 as
the lesson shows how I use the technology in a legal and ethical way.
One thing that the literature talks about one of the allures of using podcasts in the classroom is
that students can create content fairly quickly and easily. Often they are collaborating and have the
capacity to reach an authentic audience (Smythe & Neufeld, 2010). The literature also discuss that when
students create podcasts and listen to it back, it helps them realize how what they wrote down sounds.

It helps students proof read their assignments and be able to make changes to it (Davis & McGrail,
2013). Finally, the literature also talks about how a podcasts can be used by students at anytime,
anywhere, to help them with their school work (Putman & Kingsley, 2009).
The majority of students when thinking about the lesson and the TPACK model are going to be
in the awareness phase. The goal of this lesson is to take students from the awareness to the praxis
phase where they are capable users and creators of podcasts. Finally this lesson covers the following
Common Core standards for math, 6.NS.A.1 which is interpret and compute quotients of fraction and
solve word problems involving division of fractions by fraction, e.g., by using visual fractions models and
equations to represent the problem, 6.NS.B.3 which is fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-
digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation, and 5.NF.A.1 which is add and subtract
fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with
equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like
denominators.
