ABOUT MASTERING SUPPLY CHAIN
MANAGEMENT WITH SAP 2007
Mastering Supply Chain Management with SAP is the bringing together of professionals from around
Australia and the region to share winning strategies, best practices and practical guidance with other
supply chain professionals utilising SAP in their organisations.
Mastering Supply Chain Management with SAP 2007 features hands on professionals from a wide range
of organisations giving you powerful solutions and realistic answers to your most pressing challenges.
This interactive forum has been designed to help you utilise SAP to optimise your supply chain processes
by giving you clear and real examples of what is being achieved and what can be done - helping you to
increase business performance.
KEY THEMES
Supplier Connectivity and Collaboration - Supplier
Relationship Management (SRM); benets derived
from using it; functionality within it that can be
found elsewhere in SAP - what is unique to SRM?
new functionality in the latest release; performance
management approaches
Services Management - Using SAP for management
of services remains an area where most businesses
are looking to make improvements. Since so much
work has been done to improve the management
of consumables, this area is really being left behind
and therefore becoming more visible as an area that
needs attention. There is much confusion regarding
appropriate Procure to Pay practices for services - the
use of service masters and service outline agreements
is a challenge for many.
Contracts Management - front-end of the
procurement processes - sourcing/RFQs; supplier
connectivity and collaboration; managing the different
type of contracts e.g. service/capex; automation
possibilities
Logistics, Freight and Delivery - freight conditions;
transport attributes; complex variations between
customers; integrating freight providers; master data
related issues such as tolerance on weight/quantities;
remote logistics; real time visibility of product location;
greater integration with vendors and logistics providers
Reporting and Business Warehouse - capabilities
of BW; demand planning; forecasting; delivery
performance; DIFOT and SIFOT; statutory reporting
using BW; what type of reports others are using it
for; supply chain event management; supply chain
dashboards using BW
Master Data Management - master data management
strategy; use of workow for managing the master data
processes internally; managing master data across
multiple systems (SAP & non SAP); the MDM tool
and other solutions that integrate to SAP; data quality
and standards; strategies for managing specic areas
(MSDS and restricted stock)
Mobile Technology and RFID - the application and use
within supply chain activities; product track and trace
visibility; impact on current practices; tie into the master
data and warehousing strategies
Business and Systems Strategy - new supply chain
innovations and efciencies; latest trends and views
held by those who sculpt supply chain thinking; using
the business strategy to develop the system strategy
Sales & Operational Planning (S&OP) - putting data
into a format that supports the business decision
making process around Supply, Demand, Inventory &
Capacity matching; visibility of key business targets and
metrics - including the reporting of these; achieving the
balance between extracting enough information to make
informed tactical decisions and too much information
which impedes the process; APO and BW; metrics and
tools that enable integration and optimisation of the full
supply chain - from planning through procurement and
sales
Supply and Demand Planning - tangible benets of
APO as a tool to assist with Demand Planning; APO
implementations; capacity planning and detailed
scheduling; moving away from planning in Excel to
using APO; training processes; alternatives to APO
Training and Leadership - increased system use and
benets gained through documentation and training
tools, such as InfoPak and SAP Tutor; differences
between transactional training and business process
education; implementing training strategies for casual
users; availability of training materials; initial and
ongoing training (pre and post go live); ensuring
consistency across a global organisation
User acceptance and user interface - changing
a culture of non-acceptance of SAP technologies;
gaining user acceptance of the system; driving
higher usage levels; matching interfaces to individual
business processes and user needs to improve system
acceptance and effectiveness

External Resource Management - Shared Information, Shared
Benets
Rio Tinto has developed and implemented an External Resource
Management (ERM) solution that enables contractors and Rio Tinto
contractor managers to work together with shared information. A
seamless and visible process through to the final payment has
been created by allowing contractors to directly enter details of
work performed through a web based tool. The solution uses a
combination of Enterprise Portal, SAP workflows and SAP services
procurement capability. The result is faster payments, richer data to
assess contractor performance and real time reporting. A transition
approach was developed to introduce the ERM functionality globally
to vendors, contract managers, plant maintenance supervisors and
accounts payable personnel. This presentation will highlight the
challenges encountered to develop, integrate and implement the
solution.

The Benets and Practicalities of Integrating RFID with SAP
- Leveraging Our Global Client Experience for the Australian
Market
RFID is one of those emerging supply chain technologies that
has been around for some time now but has seen slower than
expected adoption. RFID facilitates organisations to track and
trace their product and inventory. This enables them to create a
wealth of information which mature, high performing organisations
utilise effectively to drive business decisions. In order to do this,
these organisations tend to capture and integrate this data with
their backend applications and business intelligence systems. The
presentation looks at how global companies have embarked upon
this exercise and shares the learnings as well as outlines the benefits
that can be achieved. We also share the future of RFID and its shape
and form as we see it unfolding for the Australian market, sharing
insights from the work on the ground with some of our clients in the
local market.
What is the RFID opportunity?
How some companies are extracting improved value by attempting
to integrate RFID into their existing IT landscape
What are the challenges faced in this attempt?
What can organisations in Australia learn from these global
companies?
What does the RFID opportunity look like for the Australian market?

Simplifying the Material Master Maintenance Dilemma - a
Unique Approach That Delivers a Practical Solution
Material Master Management in SAP is a complex set of screens that
requires specific information to be correctly entered. However there is no
delivered solution from SAP that brings together all of the components of
the process and covers a simple practical approach for the initial request,
collection of information, its approval from various stakeholder groups,
actioning the request and notification of follow-on requirements for Plant

Supply Chain Planning Excellence using SAP
Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) is becoming a necessity for
successful supply chain execution. With globalisation of sourcing
and manufacturing, shifting resources, facilities and inventories
across the world, more and more companies are relying on effective
supply chain planning to truly synchronise supply, based upon actual
and forecasted demand. Keys to success include understanding
and making effective use of your SAP capabilities, an integrated
and formal S&OP process from sales and marketing to the supply
organisation, and working out where to start. This presentation will
explore a number of case studies and address:

People Make the Difference
Most leaders contemplating change know that people matter. It is all
too tempting, however, to dwell on the plans and processes, which
dont talk back and dont respond emotionally, rather than face up to
the more difficult and more critical human issues. But mastering the
soft side of change management neednt be a mystery
Jones, Aguirre & Calderone, 2005
Nestl Australia implemented the Nestl version of SAP (called
GLOBE) with a big bang style launch in January 2006. In the years
leading up to this implementation, Nestl followed its own standard
methodology of implementation which detailed the processes,
resources and timelines to be followed. What was clear from the
start was that it was the people that would make the difference in
whether this implementation would be a success. This presentation
will seek to provide a practical overview of the lessons learned in the
implementation of SAP at Nestl with regards to:

Supply Chain Performance Management
All manufacturing/distribution companies are interested in Supply Chain
Performance Management (SCPM). However, each has developed a set of
applications (ranging from Excel to custom data warehouses) to achieve
their objectives. The maturity of the current SCPM application space is
reflective of the MRP II/ ERP space of the 80s - most of the applications
were home grown and were in silos. This session will focus on a new
generation of analytical applications (xSCMP - Supply Chain Performance
Management) addressing the integrated supply chain; from Demand
Management through supplier performance.

NIBCO Uses SAPs Visual Composer to Create Dashboards
and Analytical Applications
See how NIBCO, a small-to-medium size business, uses SAP
NetWeaver 2004s and Visual Composer (VC) to deliver easy to use
analytical applications. Dashboards based on NetWeaver 2004s BI
display data that business users can quickly assess and act upon.
Analytical applications combine BI and R/3 data sources to improve
business operations. The VC modelling environment also allows a
business analyst to build solutions that once required a developers
expertise.

From S&OP to Lean Production - the Latest Solutions from
SAP to Improve Supply Chain Planning and Scheduling
Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) is a fundamental part of
supply chain planning and can have a significant impact on key
supply chain performance metrics. With xSOP, SAP has a new
solution that builds on existing capabilities and addresses core
business challenges such as:
How do I manage a consistent and consolidated view of S&OP
plans across various data sources?
How do I increase the efficiency of carrying out the S&OP process
across my organisation and reduce the planning cycle?
How do I decide which version of my S&OP plan best meets my
businesses objectives?
xLPO is a closed-loop lean manufacturing solution that can be deployed
at both a single plant level or scaled across the entire enterprise.
Rapid deployment of lean planning, coordination and execution on the
plant floor and scaling to lean manufacturing across multiple plants
Enables end-to-end lean implementations across enterprise supply,
demand, and customer processes
Simple but powerful software based lean manufacturing solution
that standardises, integrates, and enables a scalable approach to

Supplier Collaboration Using Inventory Collaboration Hub
(ICH)
Customers have been collaborating with suppliers since the dawn of
commerce. Todays need for collaboration is more extenuated due
to the complexity of supply chains, volume of transactions and the
pressures to reduce inventory while increasing performance.
Evolution and benefits of supplier collaboration - for manufacturers
and suppliers

- Overview of ICH functionality
- How does ICH form part of the supplier collaboration strategy?
- How do manufacturers and suppliers connect?
Implementation of ICH in different environments

Balanced Training - Ensuring that Requirements for Business
Process and Cultural Changes Get as Much Attention as
System Process Changes
A crucial measure of the success of system implementation, change
or upgrade is the extent to which users are fully able to utilise the
enhanced capabilities after the roll-out. More often than not system
changes go hand in hand with changes in business process and
desired cultural or behavioural changes which are often not covered
in systems training. This presentation looks at the journey and the
challenges of achieving a fully balanced approach to ensure all three
areas namely system utilisation, approved and productive business
processes and supporting behaviours are cultivated through targeted
training.

Drive Your Company Towards Carbon Neutral with Sales
Order and Vendor Invoices Automation
Did you know that deforestation is responsible for 18.2% of
greenhouse gas emissions? Did you know that by volume, 50% of
the rubbish thrown into landfill is paper? With most Sales Orders and
Vendor Invoices generated electronically by ERP systems it is ironical
that most companies print these documents BEFORE processing
them. The simple printing activity not only significantly increases the
cost per transaction but also drive up the emissions of CO2. This
presentation will showcase the Esker solution for SO & VI automation
through the case study of Whirlpool (US success story) and explain
how you too can drive YOUR company towards carbon neutral with
these solutions.

Driving Delivery Performance and Efciency Improvements
Using Dynamic Alignment Principles
A lean supply chain model assumes stable demand and supply
signals, allowing the supply chain to respond in a planned and cost
effective manner. However, both external constraints (e.g. changing
market conditions) and internal constraints (e.g. rapid growth and
market share aspirations) will impact the customer experience,
adding significant rework and additional costs. This presentation
looks at the journey Fonterra has undertaken since it reviewed its
supply chain model and deployed SAP in 2004.

Wireless Barcoding in the Outback
BHP Billiton, Olympic Dam, South Australia was identified as a pilot
site for implementing the Global RF Barcoding solution within the
SAP environment. The solution allows for common SAP processes
to be performed using mobile devices within the warehouse
environment and across external laydown yards. It also provides
standard format for barcoding and enables Advance Shipping
Notices to be utilised when receipting.
The problem: no global standard format across BHPB for
barcoding technology
The process: identify common processes for scanners
The implementation: hardware, software, infrastructure and training
The solution: go live and pushback
The future: where are we headed now? Bed down the current
technology, enhance where required and assist other assets in
adopting the standardised solution

OPTIMISE YOUR PROCESSES AND EXTRACT VALUE FROM YOUR SYSTEM INVESTMENT OPTIMISE YOUR PROCESSES AND EXTRACT VALUE FROM YOUR SYSTEM INVESTMENT
Closing Keynote: Really Utilising Procurement to Drive Savings
Across the Business and SAPs SRM Solution to Sustain these
Gains
13.55 - 14.55
Now to make any savings sustainable and be able to manage
effectively you need an IT solution and thats where SAPs SRM
comes into play. The IT gurus see the solution as King. Reality is
that it doesnt save you anything at all as it cant do deals. However
a deal is not worth the paper its written on unless you actually
buy something. If you configure SRM correctly it can help ensure
compliance to the deals your Procurement team have negotiated.
Jim Campbell - Regional Head of Procurement, Asia Pacific,
British American Tobacco Australasia Ltd
SAP release: R/3 4.7 Enterprise
Original go live date: June 1998
Jim is responsible for the Procurement of all Direct Materials
and Indirect Goods & Services and is a member of BATs
Global Procurement Leadership Team. Originally joining BAT
as a Research Chemist in BATs Southampton, England, Group
Research Centre, Jim made a small career change in the 90s
when he moved from Research to Global Operations. In his
career at BAT Jim has held a number of posts, the most recent
before current being Head of Supply Chain for BAT Australia.
Very much a supporter of strategic rather than tactical
Procurement, Jim is well known for his views on what he
calls enlightened Procurement. The simplest thing in the
world for Procurement people to do is a Dutch auction which
squeezes the pips out of the supply base. When the supplier
cant give any more they just move onto the next one. With
important manufacturing materials the future is about creating
a sustainable supply base which consistently delivers the
lowest total acquisition cost to a business and adds true
value. Easy to say, harder to deliver.
The Procurement of Indirect Goods and Services is new
extension to the traditional Procurement teams responsibility.
With it comes the requirement for new skills, tools and a
different approach to that traditionally used on manufacturing
materials.
In the last 4 years we have put Indirect Procurement into all our
markets globally, including the Asia Pacific region - and have
additionally gone live with SRM in each. The Indirects program has
delivered savings in the hundreds of millions since it started. The
challenge now is how do we save more in the future and make it
sustainable?
Many people outside procurement see procurement simply as the
buy part of the plan-buy-make-move-deliver concept. But Indirect
procurement is an area where spend covers the whole business and
not just supply chain. The challenge comes when you report up an
operations line to get operations management to see the value you
might add to another function - e.g. Marketing - the image has to be
right.
Convincing a business that employing a number of relatively
expensive procurement specialists will save them lots of money
can be a challenge. How many businesses say that they have
Procurement but in reality the stakeholder engages the supplier
and sets up the deal and only invites Procurement in at the last
moment to negotiate the deal - what chance have you got in these
circumstances to negotiate a great deal? Its all about stakeholder
engagement up-front and getting a seat at the right table.
Procurement needs to be involved at the beginning in the business
planning cycle.

SAPs Supply Chain Analytics enables the performance analysis of supply
chain business processes. Key performance indicators (KPIs) can be
defined, selected and closely monitored. Pre-configured business content
in form of ready-available KPIs and extractors are available for supply chain
management and supplier relationship management. Many of these KPIs
are based on the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model.
SAPs vision is to enable supply professionals to deliver
sustained value to their stakeholders, through providing
applications and thought leadership that integrate all
steps in the supply cycle. A key component of this
vision is the provision of World Class analytics to help
optimise all elements of the supply chain. In particular,
this forum will focus on the SRM (Supplier Relationship
Management) and SCM (Supply Chain Management)
aspects of Supply Chain Analytics.
Key points include:
How can we effectively utilise SAPs Business
Content in SRM to speed up the implementation of
analytics
What analytical tools and processes are necessary
to generate intelligence from your supplier
interactions to support contract management and
better sourcing decisions?
What does a typical roadmap and action plan for
Supply Chain Analytics look like?
The forum will be focused on action planning and
getting started in this area and providing insights
