their distinctive identities, said Wischnowski. With 300-plus journalists we need to make
sure our journalism is relentlessly interesting, relevant and timely.
Under Wischnowskis direction, The Inquirer has most recently created a new Sunday health
section, an expanded real estate section, and a weekend section devoted to life at the
Jersey Shore. Stan was also instrumental in the 2013 launch of the paid website,
Inquirer.com and the implementation of the newsrooms first performance management
review system.
Ive worked with Stan since 2007, said Inquirer editor Bill Marimow, and he understands, as
well as anyone Ive ever worked with, the inextricable linkage of excellent journalism to
producing a vibrant, viable business. His leadership in The Inquirer newsroom and throughout
our company has been invaluable.

In his 30 years in the news business, Wischnowski, 52, has held a wide range of newsroom
management roles at The Inquirer as well as at the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle and
the Detroit News. As Executive Editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer, he co-managed the
newsroom and served as a senior executive of IGMs operating committee with
responsibilities for all facets of strategic planning, content development, legal affairs, and
budget oversight.
Wischnowski was the Deputy Managing Editor for The Inquirer, prior to becoming the
Inquirers editor in 2010, and was responsible for overseeing the entire night operation, co- managing the newsroom
budget, and representing management in contract negotiations
with the union that represents the newspapers journalists. From 2002 to 2008,
Wischnowski was responsible for overseeing the front page and the production of all
sections of the paper.
Before arriving at The Inquirer in 2000, Wischnowski was a top editor at the Rochester
(N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle (D & C). He started there as the Page One editor, and was
eventually elevated to Assistant Managing Editor and then to Managing Editor. Under his
leadership, the D&C was recognized as one of the Gannett Companys top performing
newspapers for three straight years.
