The Gorgeousness of Rain

Have you ever asked yourself why there is such thing as rain? Why do we
need to have rain? Those are just very simple questions asked by many people
because of wondering about the significance of rain in our lives. Some people
wonder why does rain exists. Even a little child asks about the existence of rain.
Rain, in a laymans term, is the tendency of the water to fall from the
clouds in a form of drops. Basically, when we hear waters touching the ground
through free fall, we call that rain. When we hear children playing outside and
splashing with the waters, we call that rain. But let us take a look at it
scientifically.
Rain is liquid water in the form of droplets that have condensed from
atmospheric water vapor and then precipitatedthat is, become heavy enough
to fall under gravity. Rain is a major component of the water cycle and is
responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the planet. It provides
suitable conditions for many types of ecosystem, as well as water for
hydroelectric power plants and crop irrigation. It plays a role in the hydrologic
cycle in which moisture from the ocean evaporates, condenses into clouds,
precipitates back to earth, and eventually returns to the ocean via streams
and rivers to repeat the cycle again. There is also a small amount of water
vapor that respires from plants and evaporates to join other water molecules in
condensing into clouds. With those facts about rain, it gives us the idea of the
importance of rain in mans life. Agriculturally, plants need waters to survive.
But sometimes, it is also devastating when rain is too much in a way that it
destroys the crops. Rain works as a tool to sustain but sometimes, it destroys
rather than sustains. But despite that, rain is still significant not only to other
living things like plants and animals, but most especially to us humans.
However, rain is also noteworthy on some individuals or group of
individuals. Rain has its own entity and mostly they consider rain as one of the
Gods. During the pre-modern times, there are different gods that stand and
symbolize different nature elements such as sun, mountain, land, sky, etc. They
consider rain as God of Waters. Whenever they experience rain, they always
give gratitude in the God of Waters. Through this rain, their farms and crops
are sustained.
They consider it as a big blessing in their lives and most especially in
their resources and other means of living. Rain becomes very essential and is
becomes a means to sustain the lives of the people and their livelihood and also
maintains the land because it is nourished through the waters coming through
the form of rain.
In another face, rain is a music that brings melody and harmony. Rain is
not just a sound for my ear, but rather it is a music that brings such strange,
but a strong feeling from within. How is it so that rain becomes music?
First, I want to define what music is. Music is an art
whose medium is sound and silence and it has different elements. But in
reality, music does not have any one concrete meaning. Music has different
meanings for different people. Music is unique in each person's life. To a
musician, music is their life. They eat, breathe, and live music. Music is their
passion. For others, music is a hobby, a pastime. Music is something that
arouses interest and is pleasurable. The casual fan may learn about music, how
to read music, how to sing, or how to play a musical instrument, but they do not
have the all encompassing passion a musician possesses.
Music is a means of relaxation for some, while others simply enjoy
listening to the sounds, melodies, and rhythms that music brings to their ears,
minds, and hearts. With those statements, I can say that rain is indeed a music
for me. Rain has different meanings and so as the rain. Rain sustains life and
so as music. Rain is something that brings relaxation and recreation and so as
music. For me rain is something that touches the heart through its sound and
brings melody and harmony. It creates a harmonious atmosphere through its
melody.
Whenever I hear raindrops, it gives me a strong feeling and it provides
me the atmosphere to think and internalize something. I actually wrote this
essay during rainy days. During that time, I dont have any idea on what am I
going to write down. Then I come up with the idea on emphasizing rain because
it gives me an interest and curiosity about its own entity. I took advantage of
the weather during that day. I write all I can think about what rain is and here
it goes. Rain became advantageous and worthwhile because I have now my
essay in Philippine Literature.
It is somehow a time for us to rest our mind and hearts with its sweet
sound. It gives a feeling of refreshment that uplifts my spirit. Not only for me.
Many poets get their inspiration from rain (Just like what I did even though I
am not a poet and I wrote an essay instead of a poem). Artists get greater
imagination. Farmers get free irrigation. Desert gets to quench its thirst. It
gives a romantic mood for lovers. Lovers find it sweet to dance and play with
the rain. Have you ever imagined why? Its because rain is also a way of God to
show that He really exists. Gods love is poured when it rains. This love is
showered among his creations.
It is very evident that rain is so much gorgeous in our lives. We cant live
without it. For me, when it rains, God showers his blessings in a very amazing
and wonderful way.
Even the in the Bible, God has spoken a lot of things in relations to rain.
There are many verses that talks about rain. It is a very symbolic presence
which God used and still use even to the next generations. It is a drink for the
thirsty land especially for the thirsty people for them to be nourished. There are
a lot of essentials from the rain.
When we are going to think in philosophical way, we can see the beauties
behind rain. Rain is very symbolic in nature. It symbolizes everything what it
wants to.
So when the rain comes just like a thief, try to remember all of these
things and try to appreciate the gorgeousness of rain. Try to thank God for His
amazing power revealed during the times of rain. Rainy days are not annoying
days. Lets try always to look at the brighter side of it. Let us be affirmative
even in various trials and times. Let us be encouraged even during rainy days.
