PS Series Initial Configuration Using the Remote Setup Wizard
Version 6.0.0
Purpose: Upon Completion of this lab exercise the student will be able to initially configure the PS Series Storage Array using the Remote Setup Wizard on a Windows based operating system to perform the Quick Start configuration to configure the base line requirements to get the Array operational. Goals and tasks: Setup and configure a new PS Series Storage array using the Remote Setup Wizard Connect a Windows 2008 Server to the SAN. Install the Host Integration Tools from CD Run the Remote Setup Wizard to locate and configure the array Verify the configuration using the GUI Review some basic settings using the GUI Hardware and software requirements: 1. PS Series Storage Array. 2. Active Gigabit Switch 3. Necessary cables to connect the PS Series Storage Array to the network. 4. Host Integration Tools CD 5. PC running GUI.

I. Preparation Array Configuration Information For this lab each student group will be comprised of a single member array. Using Tables 2 & 3 in the Lab Configuration and Setup section at the front of this book, each student will be assigned to a specific group by the instructor, and will use the configuration parameters shown in the table or those provided by the instructor, while performing the initial configuration of the member/array throughout the remainder of the lab exercises. Caution: Because there are multiple arrays, care should be taken to ensure that your group is configuring the PS Series Storage Array properly using the correct configuration information and that you are not using another groups configuration parameters. 1. Identify which of physical PS Series Storage Arrays is the one you will be configuring. a. Using Tables 3 in the Lab Configuration and Setup section, record the serial number of your groups array. Array Serial number ___________________, e.g. SHU0943824J283C b. Using Tables 3 in the Lab Configuration and Setup module, identify and mark in the space below your group selection; refer to array set for all IP addresses for your Group, eth0, eth1, eth2, and eth3 interfaces. You will need all of this information in the following steps to configure your array. ______ Record the array set you will be using as identified by the instructor. Array # __________________________ Team # __________________________ Group Name __________________________ Member Name __________________________ Network Mask __________________________ Group IP Address __________________________ eth0 IP address __________________________ eth1 IP address __________________________ eth2 IP address __________________________ note: some arrays may not have an eth2 port eth3 IP address __________________________ note: some arrays may not have an eth3 port

II. Using the Remote Setup Wizard to Initialize an Array for Windows only This section of the lab describes the steps you need to initialize and configure the PS Series Storage Array using the Remote Setup Wizard. Warning: Care should be taken to ensure that your group is configuring the proper PS Series Storage Array and that you are using the correct configuration parameters. Otherwise you may affect the operation of other classes or teams. Note: Prior to starting the Remote Setup Wizard, make sure your array has been reset back to factory defaults. If it has not the Remote Setup Wizard program will not detect the uninitialized array. To reset, use the console port and issue the reset command. Once the reset has completed, continue with steps below. 1. Verify that a network cable is connected to both the Eth0 port of the active control module and that of an active switch port. Eth0 is the port that is used to discover and configure the array using the Remote Setup Wizard Note: In our lab environment, this step has been done for you and is already complete. If you were configuring an array at a customer location, you would need to make sure that this is completed prior to continuing to the next step. 2. If you havent already done so, verify that the latest version of the Host Integration Toolkit (HIT Kit) is installed on you server by following section IV of Lab Exercise #1. 3. Open and run the Remote Setup Wizard (RSW). Once the wizard has been installed it can then be run again at any time. To access RSW, from the Windows desktop, select Start All Programs EqualLogic, select the Remote Setup Wizard application.
4. Select the Initialize a PS Series Storage Array option, select Next to continue. RSW will begin to discover all uninitialized PS Series Storage arrays and it will display a list of available un-initialized arrays being displayed in the arrays found window, as shown below.

5. From the list of uninitialized arrays, using the Serial number you recorded in Preparation section earlier, select your array from the list of arrays found and select the Next button to continue.
6. The member configuration screen appears. Update the Member Name, IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway with the information for your array that you collect in the Preparation section. Lab Exercise 2 PS Series Initial Configuration Using the Remote Setup Wizard 2-6
7. Select Create a New Group option then click Next to continue. 8. At the Create a New Group window, using the information collected in the Preparation section update the Group Name, Group IP, RAID Policy, Credentials for New Group, and the CHAP credentials for VDS/VSS access to group. For the password and CHAP credentials use the following information: RAID Policy = 6 Admin Password (for grpadmin) = eql Membership password = eql User name = vssuser Password = equallogic01

9. Once the New Group parameters have been entered, click Next and then Finish to complete the PS Series array initialization. III. Accessing the Group Manager GUI to View Status and Create Volumes The Group Manager GUI is a java-based graphical user interface that you can access from any computer with a web browser and a connection to the EqualLogic SAN. In addition to tcp ports 3002 and 3003, the GUI uses the standard HTTP port (80). 1. To access the Group Manager GUI enter your groups Group IP address in a web browser, as shown below.
2. At the login to the array, enter the credentials you created previously, these should be user name of grpadmin with a password of eql.

3. The GUI has four main areas that can be accessed through the lower leftmost panel, they are: a. Group Configuration Display and modify the group configuration and set up accounts, event notification, network services, and CHAP authentication. Display and modify Members, monitor group members and modify member configurations, including configuring member network interfaces b. Volumes Create and monitor volumes and snapshots and modify volume and snapshot configurations. c. Replications Monitor and configure Replication partners d. Monitoring Monitor group, members and events happing within the group e. NAS Configure and monitor NAS service You can use the left most panel to show the tree structure of the main objects, i.e. group and members. When items are expanded, you can click on a specific member, volume, partner, or collection to display detailed information. 4. Using the GUI, navigate the different buttons, trees, and tabs to locate the following information: a. Group Name ________________________________________________________________ b. Group IP address ____________________________________________________________ c. RAID Policy ________________________________________________________________ d. Eth0, eth1, eth2 and eth3 interface status _________________________________________ e. Serial number of the array (backplane) ___________________________________________ f. Disk drive status _____________________________________________________________ g. Controller firmware version _____________________________________________________ h.
