Training Season
Summer training was one of my favorite parts of being a high school athletelong
hours in the gym or on the feld with a coach telling you the secrets of the game and
helping you accomplish your purpose on the team. The last month of ministry has
been prety similar, minus all the sweat and smelly socks!
The frst week of June, I was on the coaching side at the Chi Alpha Student Train-
ing Conference in Ohio along with six of our students who will be leading missional
communites in the fall. We had 4 days of practcal, hands-on training in 15 major
topics for students to grow including how to the study the Bible, how to lead a small
group, tme management & fnances, the Holy Spirit, missional living, and more! I
was so impressed with our students as they each studied a book of the Bible and led
small-group discussions that were authentc and challenging.
For the last two weeks of June, I atended an Elijah House School of Ministry to re-
ceive some of my own training in the area of prayer counselingsomething greatly
needed among college students looking for resoluton in so many areas of life. A
majority of the tme was spent in a classroom setng as we learned the Biblical basis
and common tools of Christan counseling. There was also a tme each day to prac-
tce using those tools in the context of a small group.
All this training is just preparaton for the day when thousands of students will ar-
rive on campus asking lifes biggest questons. Who am I? Who is God? Why am I
here? The answers to those questons are only found in personally knowing the love
of our heavenly Father thats expressed through His son Jesus! Your prayers and
fnancial support are allowing the heart of the Father to be demonstrated and pro-
claimed at Purdue! Thanks for being part of the team!
