GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING

Master of Education

Compulsory Courses 42 Credits
Elective Courses 6 Credits

Students pursuing a Master degree under the non-thesis structure are required to
complete a minimum of 48 credit hours of course work. The credits are distributed
into 42 credits hour of compulsory courses and 6 credits of elective course. The
following is a list of compulsory and elective courses

Master of Science

Students pursuing a Master of Science degree are required to complete 33 credits of
course work and submit a thesis at the end of the programme of study. It is
advisable that every student discusses the number of credits with his/her advisor.

Requirement for Registration with Lembaga Kaunselor (Councelors Board)

The Lembaga Kaunselor requires that Master degree students complete a minimum
of 48 credits to enable them to register with the Board. Hence, Malaysian students in
the Master of Science programmes who have not met the above mentioned
registration requirement will need to complete an additional 5-6 credits of elective
courses. Students are advised to consult their advisor in choosing elective courses
that will meet the Lembagas requirement. The list of elective courses is similar to
the electives offered under the Master of Education(Guidance & counseling)
programme.

The above requirement does not apply to students who are registered counselor in
Malaysia or who are eligible for registration based on their Bachelor degree
qualification

Doctor of Philosophy

Students pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy degree are required to complete a
minimum of 12 credits in addition to the following courses:

Students are advised to discuss their choice of courses with their advisor very early
stages of the programme. An up-to-date list of courses offered can be obtained at

the Faculty of Educational Studies Deputy Deans (Research and Postgraduate
Studies) office.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS


Master of Education (M.Ed.)

Applicants must have:
A Bachelor degree in a related area from universities recognised by
Universiti Putra Malaysia with cumulative grade point average (CGPA)
of not less than 3.00.
Candidates applying for Master of Education in Guidance & Counselling
and Teaching of English as a First Language (TESL) must pass an
interview conducted by the Faculty.

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

Applicants must have:
A Bachelor degree in a related area from universities recognised by
Universiti Putra Malaysia with cumulative grade point average (CGPA)
of not less than 3.00.
Candidates applying for Master of Science in Guidance & Counselling
and Teaching of English as a First Language (TESL) must pass an
interview conducted by the Faculty.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.)

Applicants must have:
A Master degree in a related area from universities recognised by
Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Candidates applying for a Ph.D in Guidance & Counselling and Teaching
of English as a First Language (TESL) at the Faculty of Educational
Studies must pass an interview conducted by the Faculty.
