If We Made The Trades

Most of your respectable, professional journalists will not indulge in fantasy trade articles. It is
beneath them to imagine what could be and then talk at length about how cool it would be if said
imaginary trades went down. They stick to their sources and legitimate trade rumors and thats about it.
!t the "aseball #all of $hame we ha%e no such standards, no real sources, and as far as being
respectable...I%e spent the last &' minutes trying to come up with an !my Winehouse joke for this
article. !nything is fair game and I know how much fans lo%e to imagine and come up with cool trades
that we would like to see, so lets do it.
! lot of the trade speculation this season has centered around the (ew )ork Mets. They already
unloaded *+,od to Milwaukee and seem poised to dump "eltran if they can as well. "ut I am far more
interested in -ose ,eyes. If they mo%ed ,eyes he could make a major impact on a lot of clubs. My %ote
would be for the .ittsburgh .irates. The .irates ha%e a chance to win the (/ 0entral, but to do so they
are going to need some help on offense and they%e got room at shortstop. Imagine this 1
st
inning
lineup, -ose ,eyes, -ose Tabata, and !ndrew Mc0utcheon. They could basically bunt the first three
batters on and ha%e bases loaded no outs e%ery time those three came up. That would be the fastest
batting order in history.
!nother big name on the trade market is #eath "ell. There are plenty of teams that could use a closer,
but I think "ell would make a great setup guy too. The )ankees ha%e lost -oba 0hamberlain for the
year and ,afael $oriano has been a complete bust. Imagine being down 1 run in the 2
th
inning to the
)ankees and ha%ing to face #eath "ell followed by Mariano ,i%era. 3ame o%er. .lus Mariano isnt
going to play fore%er and he has already missed some games this year. "ring in "ell, let him setup for a
year or two and then succeed ,i%era as the ne4t )ankees closer.
The biggest starting pitcher whose name we ha%e heard thrown around is 5baldo -imene6. The ,ockies
ace got off to a tough start this year, but has been pitching solid for the last & months. 0olorado is sure
to ask for a kings ransom to get him, but the young starter just might be worth it. I would lo%e to see
-imene6 go to "oston. They struggled with starting pitching all year and slotting -imene6 behind -osh
"eckett in the rotation would gi%e make them a guaranteed pennant winner in my book. They ha%e
more then enough offense, but they need some more pitching to be able to win some of those close
games in the colder weather of the postseason.
Then we come back to "eltran. /ots of teams, including the "ra%es and .hillies, ha%e been reportedly
interested in the switch hitting slugger. .ersonally, I think the 0hicago White $o4 should make a run at
him. They ha%e the big right handed bats in *onerko and 7uentin they need someone who can hit for
power in the cleanup spot from the left side. !dam 8unn has completely failed in that role. 8unn is
batting .19: for the season, meaning he gets a hit about as often as !my Winehouse said no to
drugs..."oom; With "eltran they would ha%e solid :,<,= lineup and the added offense might be enough
to put them back in contention in the !/ 0entral.
I could go on like this all day, but Ill lea%e some for the rest of you fans to discuss. There are plenty of
other interesting possibilities, Id lo%e to hear where you guys would like to see #unter .ence, 8rew
$toren, ".-. 5pton, 0olby ,asmus, and the rest of the trade rumor players. !ll I know is that this week
is going to be interesting. 8ont be surprised if there is a mo%e that no one saw coming. >nce the dust
settles Ill ha%e something for you on this years trade deadline winners and losers.
