Observations about this 3A DATA:
Places of Promise
Lots of 2 and 3 not very many 1s-- not outstanding work, either
Organization is strong
Word choice/language has improved since beginning of year
Growth because a lot of writing this year, a lot of practice

Places where Kids need Support
Developing ideas is place where kids score low
Kids need to make connections to thesis with evidence they can cite, pick quotes, not connect them
Kids struggle with citation, evidence, examples, follow up support for argument

Big questions:
How do we get kids to be invested in writing?
How do we create authentic opportunities to write (persuasive letter has more investment)
How do we get kids to think with more complexity and less compliance?
Of Mice and Men a good anchor text?
How to connect to issues in texts that are relevant (Megs autistic, friendless child example)
