Project title: "How much costs to be a lawful businessman in Arequipa?"
Project overview: This is an empirical investigation on how much costs to be a "lawful businessman", meaning, an entrepeneur abiding commercial and city law. The scope will be limited to a cost-benefit of some commercial regulations imposed by the MUNICIPALIDAD PROVINCIAL DE AREQUIPA (the city government of Arequipa, Per). The initial inspiration comes from the article "El Costo de la Legalidad" ("The Costs of Legality") by Economics and Law professor, Dr. Enrique GHERSI, also available in YouTube as a lecture (in spanish, though)
What type of project will this be (essay/paper) and why that type is appropriate for my needs :
The essay format fits better the purpose of this project because its a more systematic way for organizing the ideas and findings of the investigation and also, to initiate a line of investigation in the topic
How I will use this project in my life after the class has ended:
It will help me develop a better understanding of economics and law, which are important topics for me, given that Im very interested in building a political and academic career.
Project outline:
Main Objective: To gain insight on how the Net Marginal Benefit principle applies on the cost-benefits analysis of bussinesmen in Arequipa.
Side Objectives: To understand how the NMB principle presents itself in real life situations To understand the impact of Regulations on the economic behavior of bussiness people
I anticipate spending the following number of hours per week on this project: About 15 hours
List of tasks I need to do to complete this project (modify this organization to fit your needs): Make a Research Outline. This is more "formal" plan for the research with an outline of important economic and legal concepts and the delimitation of area and subjects for the investigation Start the fieldwork. In this stage I will apply the tests or other forms of evaluation or observation of the economic behavior of the study subjects. Present results. In the form of a Paper, which I hope gives Arequipa's local authorities some feedback on the economic impact of their regulatory activity
