Mul t i -wi re proport i onal chamber f or use at CERN, Geneva, f or the detection
of high energy particles. The two external frames of the chamber each carry
1700 copper beryl l i um high voltage curves 1.3 m long, 120pro in diameter, set
at 2mm pi t ch to an accuracy of O. l mm , and tensioned at 350s to a tolerance
of +- 10%. A f urt her frame between the t wo high tension frames carries almost
1700 gol d pl ated tungsten wires, 1.3m long but onl y 20pro diameter, also
posi ti oned to an accuracy of O. lprn but tensioned in the range 44- 55 g.
