I work in UI(user-interface) management for Procurve.

The team consists of 20

members. There are 4 interfaces for network switch. The team is further subdivided
into 4 teams SNMP, config, CLI(command Line interface), Web-UI(web user-
interface). Although all teams seems to have clear-cut distinction people in cli and
web-ui need to have a full understand of Snmp and config. During my first 3 months
into the company I was given guidence and training to improve my networking skills
and understand the code base already present.

For the Next 3 months. I was given a project which involved in designing and
implementing ‘reload’ Feature. This feature would enable the user to reload the
switch at a specific time or after certain time. Since this is a new feature, I
implemented across all the four user-interfaces. i.e config, snmp, cli, web-ui.

During the last phase of the project I was pulled into development team which
involves developing the present code to provide HA(High availability) supportability.
The switch would have 2 cpu modules. In case of a crash on the main cpu within 5
seconds the second cpu which is in standby mode would come online. During this
project i worked on SNMP front and developed replication function so that master
cpu sends messages to the slave cpu about its status. This project was a great
success.(will be released into the market in FEB 2010).

The next project was in WEB-ui. It was a microsoft deal which promised to buy
large amount of switches (number of switches not told to us.) if our web-ui has more
features. I along with other 2 senior engineers modified the design and
implemented the features. Microsoft took the deal and it was a great hit.

After my involvement in the Microsoft specials, I was made permanent web-ui

member. During this time the proposal of re-designing web-ui has come. Since the
old web-ui consists of all static pages and uses basic-authentication protocol .i.e
low standards of security. A new team consists of myself and other 2 members were
assigned the job to propose a new design. I involved myself in design and
implementation of new web-ui.

I was assigned the sole responsibility to come up with a design

for a pictorial representation of the switch known as BOB(Back of Box). The user can
see the picture and know status of the ports, faults in any. i.e overall status of the
switch. This project has been a great hit. Developments for the next phase would be
to allow user to configure ports etc. which is on the way.

During the development of new-webui there was a time when my team lead
and my Manager were on leave due to their personal reasons and i took charge for
a week reporting the status and updates to senior management and testing team. I
was praised by senior manager and by my manager for making things run smoothly
during that period.
