June 2014

A US$4.5 million European Union funded Fisher-

ies Project was launched in Harare during the
frst week of June. The project was launched sim-
ultaneously with four others funded by the same
organisation. All projects launched are focussed
on natural resources management.
Speaking during the launch at the Mukuvisi
Woodland, the European Union Head of Delega-
tion to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Aldo Dell'Ar-
iccia, said the launch of the fve diferent projects
to be implemented by diferent non-
governmental organisations reached a new stage
in its support to natural resources management
in Zimbabwe.
Over the next fve years, the EU will invest a total
of EUR 13 million (approx. USD 17.7 million) in
the felds of environmental research, community-
based environment groups, forestry, wildlife and fshery.
"Through these projects, the EU intends to
support Zimbabwe in responding to the chal-
lenge of securing thorough and comprehen-
sive economic development in and liveli-
hoods for rural populations in rural areas,
and ensure a sustainable management of
natural resources. These initiatives also aim
at fostering sound coordination among all
the stakeholders involved", said Ambassador
Dell'Ariccia. The Government of Zimbabwe
was represented by Minister of Environment
Water and Climate, Mr Saviour Kasukuwere,
who was accompanied by Minister of Lands
(Mr Douglas Mombeshora), Minister of Agri-
culture (Mr Joseph Made) and the Minister
of Tourism (Mr Walter Muzembi). There were various other
Ambassadors from EU countries as well as heads of govern-
ment departments, NGOs and other stakeholders. Speaking
during the occasion, World
Vision National Director said
the implementation of the
fsheries project in partnership
with Aquaculture Trust and
Basiliwizi Trust, would com-
plement others already in
place. It is not by accident
that as World Vision, a Chris-
tian Organisation, is working
with fshermen and women.
Bible scholars would tell you
that most of Jesus disciples
were in fact fshermen, said
the ND when concluding his
presentation to more than 200
people who attended the
launch. World Vision and the
two partners would implement
the project on integrated and sus-
tainable fsheries and aquaculture
production for improved food se-
curity of vulnerable households in
fve diferent districts in the coun-
try. These districts are: Binga, Ka-
riba , Insiza, Umzingwane ,
Masvingo, Beitbridge. Mwenezi
and Hwange. The fsheries will run
for four years, beginning in No-
vember 2013 and ending in Octo-
ber 2017 and it is expected to im-
prove food production and dietary
diversity of vulnerable Households
through fsheries and aquaculture
activities. The project will also improve income generation
capacity of vulnerable households and marginalized groups
through fshery and aquaculture value chains.

The Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Mr Yoshinobu
Hiraishi, on June 18 ofcially handed over the newly con-
structed Molo School buildings to the community in Bubi
District. Molo has an enrolment of 288 pupils who have
been using dilapidated structures since the school started
operating in 2006. The construction of the school buildings
was made possible by a grant of USD 112,039(one hundred
and twelve thousand and thirty-nine dollars) which the
Embassy extended to World Vision Zimbabwe in March last
year for the implementation of the project. The amount was
used for the construction and furnishing of four standard
double classroom blocks as well as the construction of a ten
multi compartment Blair Latrine toilet block and a staf toi-
let . The local community assisted in the provision of labour,
bricks, sand and stones. Speaking at the handover, the Dep-
uty Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor
Paul Mavhima said as government, they would continue
working with organisations such as World Vision. He was
quick to add that there were more than 1 500 schools which
were in a dire state, the same as Molo before the interven-
tion. Standing in for the National Director, Shepherd
Dhlamini, the Operations Manager for the Southern Region,
said World Vision was thankful of the good working rela-
tions with the Government of Zimbabwe. The event was
attended by more than a thousand people who included
local community members as well as children and staf from
neighbouring schools.

WVZ is currently implementing a project entitled
Gender Regional Enhancement and Transfor-
mation Project (GREAT), focusing on early mar-
riages. It is being implemented in Dande, NNN
and Chihota Greenfeld. Consequently, the
GREAT recently participated in the commemora-
tion of International Womens Day. Each year
International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated
on March 8. (The frst International Women's
Day was held in 1911.) Thousands of events occur
to mark the economic, political and social
achievements of women. Organisations, govern-
ments, charities, educational institutions, wom-
en's groups, corporations and the media celebrate
the day. This years theme for Zimbabwe was

NNN held two events. At National Level, WVZ
donated 50 T-shirts towards the National Launch

Mugabe was the guest speaker. This was in re-
sponse to an invitation by Hon. Minister Oppah
Muchinguri. There were events which were also
held at the ADP.
These were attended
by various stake-

Greetings Comrades in Christ from Colourful Colorado:
Im in the small village of Evergreen, nestled in the beautiful
forested Rocky Mountains. Sitting at the table on which I
ate meals as a child and in the house of my deceased grand-
parents who we used to visit on special occasions, Im sur-
rounded with reminders of my formative yearsmemories
of a childhood flled with tears and laughter. It is said, You
can never go home again, as it is impossible to recapture
the past. We all change/grow and even if the small town
where we grew up looks the same, it feels diferent. The
people we remember have moved on with their own lives
and nostalgia is replaced by the realities of the present--
busy schedules, broken lives and broken promises.
While I remain close to my beloved sister, mom and other
family members, this home leave is a stark reminder for me
that my home is Harare and my family is my precious
African-American daughters and wife. God made us and
meant us to serve Him in Zimbabwe and live our most fruit-
ful and fulflling years in a country where the more things
change, the more they stay the same, and we feel so safe,
comfortable and content. As I have my quiet morning time
with the Lord on this 4th of July (American Independence
Day), Im so grateful for freedom.not the worldlyfreedom
referred to by politicians, but the spiritual freedom in Christ
written about by Paul in His epistles to the frst century
churches. As Christians, we are citizens of the Kingdom of
God, strangers in a strange land, living in this world, but
not of this world. As ambassadors of the King of Kings,
serving Him through our collective World Vision ministry,
we are called and compelled to represent the Lord with in-
tegrity, doing nothing to bring shame to His name. Wheth-
er in our ADPs or grant programs, we have the responsibil-
ity to be accountable to God, to the people we serve, and to
each other by maintaining the highest standards of steward-
ship. Through integration, cost-sharing, cost-reducing,
economies of scale and increased efciency, we can increase
our impact on child well being outcomes by getting more
out of the less funding we can expect in the future. I will be
travelling to WVUS Headquarters in Federal Way, Washing-
ton next week to meet with President Richard Stearns and
other leaders and to raise funds, with particular emphasis
on private non-sponsorship to supplement our ADPs and
Christian Commitment programming. Please be praying for
favour, wisdom and opportunities.
I will also be in South Africa for meetings later this month
focused on Child Theology and the future of Christian Com-
mitments (CC) for the region, with CC no longer being a
learning centre, but rather, being imbedded in line manage-
ment. Please pray that the Lord guides the Regional Leader
and her team to follow a divinely appointed vision of how
we live and work out our Christian commitment.
I will be back home in Harare on August 1st. Please pray for
travelling mercies and for Gods anointing for the months
and years ahead. The Lord answered our prayers in June for
a 2-year renewal of our Temporary Employment Permit
(TEP) in June, so the Brown family will continue to call Zim-
babwe our home at least until 2016. To God Goes The Glo-
ry!
