Subject: DRFT LETTER TO GERRY ESQUIVEL
Here is a draft letter to Gerry Esquivel to update him on the latest developments at the SINAG
Center. Please suggest any changes, additions, deletions, etc. to help us render an accurate
report, showing how we are making good use of the MWSS building in line with our objective of
addressing the needs of the community.
Mr. Gerardo A.I. Esquivel
Administrator
Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System
Quezon City
Dear Mr. Esquivel:
This is to update you on the activities currently being undertaken at the SINAG Community Center
in the MWSS Building in Balara. As you know, SINAG, our community service-oriented volunteer
group, is engaged in programs aimed at the improvement of the quality of life in marginalized
areas, with particular focus on Health, Education and Livelihood.
A. HEALTH

1. A section of the first floor area is occupied by the Wee Care Health and Development Center
(WCCHDC), a registered non-stock private organization, which provides holistic child and
adolescent health care services, specifically day care and a program for children with special
needs and offers pediatric consultations on scheduled hours.
2. An Adult Wellness program for the diagnosis and management of common lifestyle diseases
has been conceptualized and will be supported by the Sta. Maria della Strada (SMDS) Multi-

Purpose Cooperative. A team of volunteer medical consultants are ready to help in the
implementation of the program.
3. A Maternity Health program, funded by a grant from Merck, Sharpe and Dohme, was in effect
until last year and has
undergone review and evaluation with the objective of re-activating a similar program with a
prospective new sponsor, enabling SINAG to continue the pre-natal consultation and monitoring
services previously offered.
4. A refurbished room has been designated as a medical consultation room for the purposes of
all health programs.

5. The SINAG Center serves as the venue for periodic medical mission services run by the Sta.
Maria della Strada parish, as part of the continuing effort to coordinate all health-related initiatives
that are intended for beneficiaries in the marginalized communities.
B. EDUCATION and LIVELIHOOD
1. SINAG has entered into a MOA with CFC-ANCOP, a pastoral implementing sector of the
Couples for Christ Global Mission Foundation, to set up and manage a Computerized Learning
Facility (CLF) offering tutorial lessons, particularly in Science and Math, to CFC scholars and
identified SMDS Coop beneficiaries. The CLF now occupies one of the private rooms in the
Center.
2. TESDA Training Sessions on Housekeeping and Bar-tending have been conducted by Asian
Touch, a vocational training institute accredited by TESDA. Other training programs are being
scheduled with an eye to helping unemployed residents in the target communities secure
employment after satisfactory completion of the required TESDA courses. SINAG core group
members participate in the selection of trainees and efforts to get job placement.
3. Martha and Mary's Garden of Hope, a private entrepreneurial group organized by a group of
La Vista ladies, has started a livelihood program using a section of the building as working area
for the production of materials now being handcrafted by women employed from Pansol and
Kaingin.
4. SINAG maintains inter-active coordination with Ayala Foundation for possible link-ups with
their ongoing projects that may offer job opportunities for our unemployed residents.
5. In the process of being set up is a Community Sewing Center utilizing donated high-power
sewing machines that have been turned over to the Center. As soon as sewers can be identified
and trained from the target communities, SINAG can engage in organized sewing projects, such
as production of "relief packages".
6. Also in process is the revitalization of the eco-garden formerly managed by the Culinary
Education Foundation. A volunteer resident from Loyola Grand Villas has offered to undertake the
cultivation and development of a new community garden.
